View Full Version : Any tips on killing a quickling queen?

Hi everyone!

I'm playing an archer and having a heck of a time going back and forth through the animated forest. It seems like almost half the trees are mad at me anymore. I'm not great at melee and I hate wasting arrows on the trees, but if I wait around with two shields it takes forever and I get hungry.

So I checked out the DH and found a Quickling Queen! It hurt. :( But I survived with 4 HP! And prayed and ate alraunia antidote so I was okay.

So now I'd really like to kill that Quickling and try to make my way through the DH instead. I have teleport control, but the only way to teleport I have is with a wand, and I'm saving that. I have a potion of invisibility that might help, but no guaranteed permanent invisibility. I picked up one of my teleport wands from the teleport dungeon.

So far I've killed the mummy boss, but haven't gone after the Ogre City, the High King, or the Graveyard. I've also found Khelavastar(sp?) but haven't talked to him or saved him yet.

So if anyone has any tactics that will help I would appreciate it.

Here is my gal. She is strained cause I'm holding everything so I can show it to you guys. Usually I leave a lot of stuff somewhere so I am not weighed down. Though I did try to get my strength up for a while by being strained but that didn't work.

If you can get her in range, wand of fireballs is probably your best bet.

You could try to confuse her by throwing your potion of wonder at her, or use those arrows of darkness to blind her. Quicklings see invisible, so that won't help.

Blessed magic map + teleport wand if you just need to get the stairs.

First of all I suggest switching cloak and bracers for the ones in backpack. You would get net difference of +1DV,+4To, -4Ap which is great deal.

For queen depends on how far from stairs she is. If she is in middle of level just teleport, if quickling queen is really close to stairs just hit stairs if she lands next to char use fireball wand. If she remains at distance hit stairs again remove poiso, recover HP and go to queen's level again.
Eventually she will end turn next to char and die from fireball.

You only have 104 hp. That is too low to try to kill an extremely experienced quickling queen.

For one you need to put on your bracers of toughness.

You need to think about what you are going to get out of going past the forest.

Are you going for an ultra ending? If you aren't, I would suggest you teleport past the queen, go through the DH and do the water temple/graveyard. That will enable you to get an additional 3-4 levels hopefully. This will make it more feasible to kill the queen.

I wouldn't go near the queen with sub 150hp. It was a miracle you survived in the first place.

It was definitely a miracle!

As for get out of it? Well, the forest is tedious and I'm worried about so many angry trees in it. I've had them destroy tougher, better armored characters than this before because I killed too many of them. Just going back and forth once I had to kill over 60 trees! Just cause so many were mad at me. I think that maybe if you fight back then other trees get mad? But am not sure.

Yeah the queen is right next to the stairs. Or she can be. She's in the room with the stairs. I'll hold off on fighting her for now. A few more levels and the graveyard and ogre cave will be a good idea first.

Alright I'll load up some Darkness arrows and be ready with the fireball wand when the time comes.

Thanks everyone! I'll let you know how it goes! :D

Well, using arrows gives queen a turn when you are not a coward mode. so it is suicide move in my opinion.

Moving from 13 to 17 toughness gives 2 hp gain breakpoints [at 14 and 16 toughness] so with bracers it might be possible to deal with her. Without them sure it is suicide.

Burb
08-14-2015, 05:48 PM
While in coward mode, you can try to zap her with wands of paralyzation (you seem to have lots of excess charges) if she's not in range for fireball. if you can catch her between a wall and get her with 2x the bounce, without getting caught in the bolt yourself (or wear -paralyzation gear, amulet of free action is very common). Then it'd be trivial to fireball her.

Before you attempt this, I'd recommend dropping unnecessary gear so you're not strained. More speed and more dv could definitely mean the difference.

By the way, you have 17 strength - if you walk around at strained! you can train that to 18, but it's a much larger speed penalty (-10) so of course don't do it for dangerous dungeon situations. And while walking around at strained! be careful not to accidentally go to overburdened, one turn is probably okay but even a few turns of it can randomly be enough to abuse your dex enough to lose a stat.

Hi Burb!

Are you sure about walking around Strained! will help my strength? For the very longest time, like most of the game this girl only had 13 strength and I walked around Strained (Not Strained!) for ever trying to get her to bulk up but it didn't happen. My Max potential Str was 13 though. I had to eat a Dark Orc Corpse and then I grew to 14 strength normally, then drank a potion of strength or something that boosted me another point, then another potion of gain attributes to get to 17.

Is it certain that walking around with Burdened or Strained or Strained! raises strength still? I'm in version 59. Maybe it doesn't raise potential strength?

BTW, do monsters still increase Str? Like I said I ate a Dark Orc (possibly a hill orc?) that raised my potential from 13 to 14. But nothing else I've eaten, not tons of Ogres, or other orcs of any kind, even other Dark Orcs have helped raise either my Str, or potential Str.

Haven't challenged the Quickling Queen yet.

Haven't challenged the Quickling Queen yet.

It raises your strength up to your strength potential. So if you're at 13 strength and 13 is your potential, being strained won't raise it any further. Drinking a blessed Potion of Potential Strength raises your potential by 3 points. Make sure it's blessed, an uncursed potion only raises it by 1 point.

The same goes for herb training: eating morgia roots won't raise toughness or willpower if they're already at potential, and rubbing moss of mareilon won't raise your dex if already at potential.

Hey guys. Still haven't killed that Queen yet. I have a side question though. Would throwing the potion of wonder or potion of exchange get rid of Blup's mom for me? Would it be evil? I'd really like to raid her house. I went to talk to her and talked to Blup afterwards so I think I'm all good there.

If killing her would be very evil or too dangerous even with those potions I won't do it and just go after that Quickling Queen instead.

Unfortunately I lost my wand of teleport to an acid trap while helping the cursed dwarf in the graveyard, so teleporting around is out. :(

It would most likely dodge it and then rip you apart. Water dragon is one of the most dangerous monsters in ADOM.

I recently had a problem with a regular quickling in DH:2. It was extremely experienced (as those things tend to, in DH) and my wizard could not kill it in one round, and it regenerated to full hit points every time. Fortunately regular quicklings do not see invisible. And I had 15 level wizard, no ball spells or wand of fireball though.

Blup's Mom cannot be exchanged. Potion of wonder should confuse her, I have no idea how well it will work however... You could probably confuse her, grab a couple items, and teleport away, but without teleport, I think this is probably a lost cause. She is very dangerous. She can kill a level 50 character if they aren't careful. Without your wand of teleport, you have pretty much no chance of pulling that off.

As far as I can tell, it's no longer possible to raise stat potential with training. I've eaten 50 morgia roots and been unable to get potential W/T to budge a single point...

For strength specifically, you need to be strained! to increase from 16 or 17, strained to increase from 14 or 15, and burdened from anything lower than that, assuming you have the potential for it.

Corpses still increase str but the chance is much lower. Ogres seem to have very close to 0% chance at 17+, I never really know since I tend to train it via burdened statuses before then. OTOH i've had dark orc corpses raise my strength when I was at 50+, so i think the formulas work differently (dark orcs small chance but possible at any amount? not sure)

the forest is tedious and I'm worried about so many angry trees in it.

You can tunnel around the Animated forest with tremendous effectiveness.

As soon as you come down the stairs in the animated forest dig into the righthand wall and tunnel up the right border of the e level. Tunnel north until the stone is too hard then turn left and tunnel all the way across to the down staircase. You can zap wands of door creation in your doorways into the tunnel and you'll get less trees clogging it up. Some will still spawn in there of course, but you only have one in contact with you at a time, ever, which means you can quickly and safely hold the arrow key and run immediately through the animated forest level every time you traverse it.

Tunneling is absolutely the safest and surest way of repeatedly traversing the Animated Forest/Dwarven Halls

Also, where did you get that pickaxe so early?

Totally feasible to have done the pyramid before animated forest. Might take a bit of grinding to get to a decent level if you went straight to CoC but it's pretty common if you've gone through the UD. Explore a few other caves (random dungeons, puppy cave) for altars/shops and if anything you'll need to watch out on overshooting your level. I almost always end up at that level before getting to the CoC because I want to precrown, pyramid has a time limit and has 2 artifacts there, I don't need si/moonsickle screwing things up for me.

Although at that point neither DH/animated forest are thaaat intimidating for you so tunneling does seem like too much effort to me. After your first pass and some more adventuring you'll probably be strong enough to do at least very quick runs through the DH which take a lot less time, so you might as well just traverse the animated forest the normal way imo. I guess that method works if you have lots of spare charges for a wand of digging and/or lots of spellcasts of mystic shovel for whatever reason though

JellySlayer
08-17-2015, 04:35 PM
Wands of digging are much better for this sort of thing, since digging is fairly turn-intensive and you're going to be harassed by trees while you dig. A blessed wand of digging with maybe 8 charges on it is probably enough to do this.

Some time ago there was discussion on how Andor Drakon managed to get hold on Ancardia.
General conclusion was he mostly used non-practical people who chased some moral declarations instead of fighting evil. Just my two eurocents.

DEATH!

To the queen! :D :D :D

I went and suited up, put on those toughness bracers, found another potion of Gain attributes(!) and went for it.

I messed up at first. I was going down the caverns and just stepped straight into the DH where the queen was. She stabbed me once or twice and took off maybe 20 hp? Maybe less. But I was poisoned. She wasn't near me though so I went back up. So I went up, drank an antidote potion, healed, up, then became a coward. I stepped back down the stairs and got shanked right away!

The queen stepped away again, but I took a step towards her. She got up close and stabbed a bunch but missed every time. Then I used my wand of fireball and killed her in one blow. :)

The queen is dead! Now I can safely tromp through the DH on my way down. I just got to the dwarf graveyard(?) in the caverns and am clearing it out.

Thanks everyone!

Oh, and I left Blup's mom alone. I told Blup about her though. So we'll see what that's about I guess. I didn't go back. I used a lot of arrows on like water elementals and turtle snakes and sharks, and I couldn't pick any back up. So I don't want to go back right now. Maybe if I make more arrows and get just a huge pile of kind of junky ones.

Maybe.

It's probably not worth going back until you get teleportation (i'm assuming you want to go back to loot the cave?). Look for wands of wishing, rings of djinn summoning, potions of *stat*, potions of gain atributes, potions of cure corruption, and mark their positions. (maybe phase daggers are worth it too? or 7lb if you find them) Then darken the entire cave on full coward, pick up all the stuff and tp to the stairs.

Or you can kill her but that takes a little more preparation and an amulet of balance, you'll convert from N= for sure without it, not sure if L+ can handle the hit but it's much easier just not making up the penalty if you can help it.

Colour me surprised. I would have thought it would be high enough level to survive the wand. Losing only 20hp is very lucky.

You can't safely tromp anywhere in the DH, though, it could spawn another queen or something worse.

Well, mostly I want to get my reward for finding her baby.

And yeah, the DH can still be dangerous, but I have a fairly safe path through it.

For now though, it's time to progress. Hmm. Down till I get to the guardian, then High King time, then Water Temple, then Tower of Eternal Flame. Then we'll see what's next.

Anybody know how to use the bridge building skill? I've never done it.

Down till I get to the guardian, then High King time, then Water Temple

If you´re diving down to the guardian, you might as well do the water temple while you´re passing it? That place is easier than either the High Kings or the ice queen. And the reward is very good, water orb is +10 willpower and another source of emergency healing. Nice to have when you're doing the high king.

Bridge building: you need to have as many logs with you as you can carry before you start. 'a'pply the skill, then choose the tile where you want to build a bridge section. Expect it to fail a lot.

If Andor Drakon would not kill innocent beings, he would not become so corrupted.

I played slaughter Terinyo with level 1 char challenge few times and never noticed any corruption to character. Overall,I strongly suspect killing is not equal corruption in Ancardia.
AD must have done some other naughty things. Maybe avoiding taxes?

Well, mostly I want to get my reward for finding her baby.

You don't need to revisit the cave after telling Blup about her, you'll get it automatically once you hit the required level.

Honestly I usually end up just finding a wand of cold by the time i get to TotHK anyway. Bridgebuilding is such a gigantic pain in the ass.

You convinced me ;) The only thing that keeps me from killing children etc is alignment drop and dooming. Of course the church can forgive my sins, but that's a hassle.

No, he for sure was a head of Ancardia tax office. You know, money and power corrupt heavily. Casino is the result of his financial crimes.:D

I think Andor Drakon must have just hung out on the bottom of the Main Dungeon or in his own house(?), or whatever you call it. Also, is there a way to hide spoilers, so that people don't get spoiled by reading about certain things? Unless the guy I'm talking about isn't considered a spoiler?

Anyways, completely unrelated. Having trouble getting crowned. And I'm running out of food. The ratlings aren't restocking their lizards. Any tips?

I'm about to go down in the main dungeon and guess I'll take a crack at the Evil Snake. Regular arrows should be good I think.

Also, I made 8 eternium arrows of penetration, which I think I'll hang onto. Should be good against the boss demon on level 50, I think. Does that sound like a good use?

Burb

You can eat fried bats too, if you are running out of lizards

I don't understand how you can run out of food so quickly though - are you equipping tons of artifacts and/or invisibility equipment at the same time? Try to limit that, that drastically increases your hunger rate.

If i remember right his PV isn't outrageously high, blessed arrows of slaying are probably better than blessed arrows of penetration, but it'll still be pretty decent.

Yes the arrows of penetration are best used against a greater moloch, in case you meet one.

The snake is most vulnerable against a thrown potion of cure poison and is bad at shrugging bolts from wands, too.

The ratling traders will restock eventually, if you stay on their level long enough. It helps to unequip arts while you wait, as Burb said.

Thank you everyone!

As for why I'm so hungry I don't know! I am wearing the Ankh, Mummy Wraps, and Elemental Gloves right now. And I'm not blessed by my god yet. I've been taking the artifacts off though when I can, like outdoor travel or other things. I think part of it is that I haven't found much Somafilla(sp?) and each rat only had like 20 lizards total.

If I could get in good with my god I think that helps with the food problems, but I might be remembering wrong. Either way, it is a total pain. I've sacrificed so much stuff and my only Lawful Altar outside of Dwarf Town is on a level with only week guys in a random cave somewhere.

I did find a chaos altar below Dwarf Town, but my dumb elf has been awfully close to getting neutral a few times actually. I killed a Blink dog by 'accidentally' shooting behind it and it dropped me to NL! :( But I got the corpse so that's good. I rushed back to go back to like LN or something and managed that.

In fact I'm finally at L+. I wore an amulet of Order I got from the sheriff for doing in Hotzenplots and got to L+ fighting the zombies and stuff in the cemetery under the Dwarf Town. So I'm L+ now, but super worried I'll get busted down to N again for something dumb.

Quick side question! How bad is corruption now? Should I be racing for the way down like mad like how it always is or is it not that bad?
I've had some interesting effects from corruption on recent characters. One got corrupted while chilling outside at the outdoor graveyard, and another got a corruption while walking around in Dwarf Town!

So I know corruption is kind of different now. This girl surprisingly hasn't gotten corrupted at all yet which is pretty great.

Oh, and one last thing. At this stage of the game should I be all arrows all the time? I've been swinging my sword a lot cause I think I'll need it sometimes, but I'm starting to not do so well with it.

And roughly, how many arrows will I need? I've got a few hundred but I don't carry them all with me at once cause they are heavy.

Thanks again everybody!

Quick side question! How bad is corruption now? Should I be racing for the way down like mad like how it always is or is it not that bad?

Background corruption doubles at 90 days. Depends how long you've been trekking across the wilderness (and why seven league boots are so good, they drastically reduce wilderness travel time). Remember that lower levels have much more background corruption - wilderness levels will never have corruption, unless you read a scroll of danger on a wilderness tile i think.

At this stage of the game should I be all arrows all the time? I've been swinging my sword a lot cause I think I'll need it sometimes, but I'm starting to not do so well with it.

And roughly, how many arrows will I need? I've got a few hundred but I don't carry them all with me at once cause they are heavy.

melee everything you can, shoot dangerous things. As you can see, how many arrows you need really depends on how good your melee is so you don't need to resort to arrows. Haven't played a pure archer in a long time but a few hundred might not be sufficient considering item destruction etc. Arrows in general tend to get destroyed more easily than, say, quarrels.

So I'm L+ now, but super worried I'll get busted down to N again for something dumb.

Eh, don't accidentally kill a lawful monster. I recently sacc'ed a white unicorn at N= and it brought me straight to C-. That was ok because I needed to convert for an ultra anyway, but yeah those penalties are huge. other than that I don't think you can possibly drop from L+ that quickly.

Well!

The Snake from Beyond is dead! :) She poisoned me a few times in our fight but I was mostly okay. I shot her a bunch of times and killed her and got her orb.

Getting to her wasn't too bad. I used Arrows of Hunting on most of the guys in her room, and wandered around real carefully, fighting just a few guys at a time. My stealth skill is 100 which I think helped. When I got to finally see the snake she didn't even care about me! Then on the other side of her a Water Elemental was angry at me, but just past him was a Water Elemental that didn't notice me. So the angry guy couldn't get at me. I started the fight with a Wand of Stunning, but all three of them shrugged it off so I didn't try again.

Now, I'm not sure about this, but most of the water guys she hangs out with weren't much of a problem. And I think it is because I was wearing a Helmet of Water Breathing. Like, I think only the Grue monsters spit water at you, but if you wear the helmet of water breathing it does either no damage or almost no damage.

The same goes for the rest of her friends. They just didn't hit me too hard. I picked up the water orb and the Water snake corpse, and it rotted away in like 3 steps. Too bad. :(

Now, before I got to the water snake, I got corrupted! It was the one where you blot out the sun. I've had that before on another character and didn't mind cause it was a melee guy. But for my girl who is an archer I thought it would be a problem. So I read my Scroll of Corruption Removal I got from the High Mountain Village and got rid of it.

Anyways, I ventured down from the Water Snake Temple and had some adventures. I found the Banshee level, but was prepared and had some beeswax. The Banshee died in only two arrows. Also down there I found a Dark Orc corpse who gave me more strength potential! :)

Then on the level right after the Banshee there was an ant hive in the room with the stairs. I didn't want to deal with that so I left, and it looked like this.

........O..+@+.................
.....>.....###.................
............###.................

Anyways, I open the door on my right and BOOM! Room full of Rust Elementals! I fight all of them while ants start digging around on my left, then by the time I finish the rust elementals, I have to fight a ton of ants.

So now the level is opened up some and the stair room has a tunnel carved into a hallway by an intersection, and while I'm fighting the ants some red worms spawn back in the rust elemental room! So I'm fighting and killing ants and worms and the intersection just has so many guys coming down to join the party.

Well I ended up slaughtering them all and it was quite a bit of work.

Anyways, I kept going down and found a book shelf room, which lowered my strength. That was annoying. I started exploring a level, that was near D:22 or around there. (I hadn't yet hit the part where you skip a few levels then back track or however that works.) And found a vault full of Giants. Fomorian Giants, Cyclops, and Ettin. I fought one or two but they hit me pretty hard so I backed away and locked the door.

On my way down I found lots of random items that could be good so I decided to head back to dwarf town and get them identified, hoping for some good gear. On my way back up I found a pixie corpse on the banshee level and ate it. So now I feel jumpy but it's okay because I ate a Blink Dog a while ago.

Oh, my weapon during all of this was an Eternium spear of the Void. I'm not sure what the Void part does, but it has decent damage and it's a spear, so that's good. While I was on Dwarf Town I teleported and talked to the Dwarven Mystic. He gave me Rolf's axe, which I'm not sure is better than my spear. I was hoping for some scrolls or potions of remove corruption, but what can you do? Maybe this axe is okay, I don't know.

Anyways, I make it back to Dwarf Town and get my stuff checked out. Nothing really good, but I did upgrade my boots to Eternium boots which are lighter and better. I also found the Moon Sickle, and it's sitting in my pile of stuff just above Dwarf Town for now. Then I sold a bunch of stuff and made an offering of twenty thousand gold to my god and currently feel very close to him.

He is holding out on me. I can feel it.

So now I'm not sure what to do. I think I'll go back down and fight that vault of Giants and hope for the best. I don't have any way of making Ice, so I can't fight the High King, and I think making Bridges will be a bad idea. That is because it is day 78 now, and the bridge will probably take too long. Plus even though I've been scrounging and bought a bunch of fried bats, food is still an issue.

So I might have to fight the Guardian/Champion, whatever. I've never fought him before so I don't know what to expect. Also, isn't he lawful? Might be a bad idea to take him on.

Is there any way to kill the piranha in the High King place? Like, Potions of Poison, or throwing a wand of Ball lightning in the water should do it I think. But nobody has ever mentioned killing them so maybe that won't work. The only other thing I can think of is I have a wand of Earthquake, which i've been told might make a bridge? Is that true? It only has 3 charges, which probably isn't enough. If it doesn't make a Bridge, would I be able to throw enough rocks in one part of the water to make a bridge out of stone?

Anyways, that's all for now.

Thanks everybody!

EDIT: I fixed my drawing of the rooms. It was weird.

and my only Lawful Altar outside of Dwarf Town is on a level with only week guys in a random cave somewhere.
It doesn't really matter as long as your experience level isn't too high. It's a tedious grind, but not that long, so you should go for the (pre/post)crowning using live sacrifices.

Quick side question! How bad is corruption now? Should I be racing for the way down like mad like how it always is or is it not that bad?
Rather than racing like mad, finding a pair of thick gauntlets is always top priority, ha ha. If anything, you should be racing for the Ice Queen first quest to get those few PoCCs so you can get rid of the most annoying corruptions like mana battery. Other than that you should be fine; an average character reaching the standard ending will do it in 80-100 days from my experience, so either just before or right after the background corruption increase. Either way, it's nothing unmanageable unless you decide to eat all of the orb guardians' corpses or something.

I'd train crossbows too if I were you. You may not always be able to find all kinds of slaying ammunition of only one kind throughout the game. Anyway, as far as melee weapons go, just use what's working better for you. There's no reason to force yourself to use a weaker option if there's no merit to it (unless you're in it for a challenge of course).

And I think it is because I was wearing a Helmet of Water Breathing. Like, I think only the Grue monsters spit water at you, but if you wear the helmet of water breathing it does either no damage or almost no damage.
Honestly I was always more worried about their corrupting attack. Still, Water Temple isn't much of a challenge unless you are really going too deep compared to your experience level and equipment (I know I managed to die there a few times in the past).

I've had that before on another character and didn't mind cause it was a melee guy. But for my girl who is an archer I thought it would be a problem. So I read my Scroll of Corruption Removal I got from the High Mountain Village and got rid of it.
If it was your only SoCR, then it's kind of a waste in my opinion; it's better to just wear an amulet of light unless you plan on having companions/familiars. If you have more means of corruption removal though, it should be fine.

While I was on Dwarf Town I teleported and talked to the Dwarven Mystic. He gave me Rolf's axe, which I'm not sure is better than my spear. I was hoping for some scrolls or potions of remove corruption, but what can you do?
Well, you can get there as early as you can, drop your alignment to N somehow, talk to the mystic and then start getting back to L. I don't know much about it though since I always go for N alignment no matter what character I play. Easier to mantain and get early crowning.

Have you been to the Ice Queen Domain? The vaults in the dungeon accessible after receiving her first quest can be a source of a lot of great items, not to mention how useful the rewards for her two quests are. There's also Minotaur Maze once you're level 25 or so, the rewards for completing it are amazing, but the dungeon itself is easily the most anti-fun place in the game. If you didn't have teleportitis, Darkforge would be a source of one good piece of armor or two, as long as you can consistently deal with steel golems.
Also if you really don't have a wand of cold at all, you should just make that bridge, assuming you have the skill and a hatchet. Sure it's not the best way, but still far more feasible than trying to swim in the red lake. :D

Anyway, what's your progress? What have you already done? What about Khelavaster? I wasn't following your threads too much, I'm afraid. With 78 days already passed, I assume you were running around the wilderness a lot.

Burb

Water breathing doesn't actually negate the water breath attack - it's just that from water elementals etc it's not actually very strong. Be prepared when facing greaters or trying to kil blup's mom.

Do noooooot try to kill the high guardian. Unless you super know what you're doing it's not worth the attempt.

It's not like day 90 is going to be the apocalypse. I've had games where I've won post day 180 (didn't have 7lb, needed to grind out in wilderness for months getting that damn boar skull). I'd clear out any and all dungeons, including the random ones minus r4/r6, to try to see if you can find a wand of cold. Otherwise, just do the bridge building thing. I'm surprised you haven't found a wand of cold but I guess rng always likes to screw you over.

I'd rather rely on randomly spawning frost monsters than go the bridge building route.

JellySlayer

There's a guaranteed wand of cold accessible from the basement of the Ice Queen area. The basement is a bit risky because there is normally one very high DL monster (balor, etc.) spawned down there. But it might be worth a quick check to see if the stairs are close together.

I have no idea what the Ice Queen thing is. I've noticed the swirly ice storm on the map, but was never able to go in. My one character since that actually got kind of far just ignored it. What are the level requirements?

EDIT:

Well, I'm going to die.

:(
:(

I hate this ice place.

There's an army of dragons and statues and giants and who knows what all surrounding me and I'm going to die.

My wand of fireballs doesn't work, and my wand of teleport doesn't work.

I was just walking along and this jerk Berserker Prince was like "I hate you! Grr" And I left him alone and just decided to walk by, but he came at me so I killed him. Then all of a sudden around this corner there were tons of berserkers. Then a wall blew up and behind it was an army.

And I'm like, this is dumb. Because I brought fire wands and a teleport wand just in case this place was too tough and neither works. So it's just a death trap.

:(

JellySlayer
08-20-2015, 09:41 PM
In that area, you have to kill the berserker prince quickly to avoid the trap.

Darkness or invisibility might buy you a bit of time or space. Most of the monsters in the trap room can't see in either, IIRC. After that... depends on what gear you have available. Maybe familiar summoning?

I have a blessed familiar summoning scroll.... with the bulk of my stuff. Back near Dwarf Town. :(

I thought the Ice place might be dangerous like the Fire Tower, so I left most of myself and "geared up" like it might be. So I'm wearing a ring of Ice resistance and and Ring of Fire. Haven't been getting any notes like My ring is flashing to protect my stuff though.

I can cast Darkness at least. Maybe that will help?

:(

I really thought some fiery wands and my new teleport wand would be enough just in case. :( It had a charge, but doesn't now.

I've used lots of arrows, mostly on dragons and giants, when they get next to me.

I don't know if I want to play out a long slow agonizing death. But I think... I have an orb of water. And I'm handing the beating fairly well. And I have no corruptions and the elemental gauntlets. I might be able to do it. Just maybe.

It's just enough hope to make me feel awful. Cause a long slow death would be terrible to watch. But I really want to live.

Which of the @ signs is you? The one at the bottom of the screen?

As you have discovered by now, a ring of fire is not needed here. You should equip the ring of slaying instead. You should also bless the two potions of extra healing immediately, because you won't have the time when you need them.

I notice you also have a potion of invisibility. One thing you could try is to bless that one as well and drink it, and see if you can escape the crowd. I'm not sure which of these monsters see invisibility, though.

If that doesn't work, you could try darkness. It is best to keep fighting in the same direction (toward the exit). Your goal here is to escape, not to kill them.

If you survive this mess and get out of the ice queen domain, I would advise you to train your bridge building skill by building one in terinyo and/or the old barbarian hut. Once your skill improves a little and you get the hang of it, build one over the piranha lake. Use any items "of carrying" that you have for this, because the main problem is the weight of the logs that you need to bring.

All that is a little tedious, but at least it is relatively safe. And you should not worry about the 90 day limit. The background corruption rate has been lowered and should not be a problem, especially since you already found thick gauntlets.

edit: Also replace the ring of cold with protection, AMW makes you immune already. And you really should get crowned before doing the High Kings or anything else, by the way. All archer crowning gifts are great, it's guaranteed to make your life easier. Sell the axe and sac the gold if you have to.

Barely anything sees invisible in Ice Queen's Domain, certainly not berserkers and yetis at the very least. I'm not sure how efficient it is once monsters are hostile though.

I've never had this stuff happened to me honestly, I usually always killed the prince first since he was coming at me anyway. Now I feel as if I've lead you into a difficult situation. Well, good luck, I hope you can manage, with your DV and PV it's doable. :)

Also those penetrating eternium arrows, damn! Where did you find them so early in the game?

Burb

Vortices see invisible, that's about it for low level monsters.

Re invisibility: Hostile monsters sort of "gravitate" towards the PC and often melee attack, won't move away if in melee range, but they won't attack every turn and won't use special attacks like breath attacks etc. This is lost if you engage in them in melee, then they can "see" you as if normal. Thus focus on killing one at a time if going to use melee, and with "tough" monsters (not that there are many that can't see invisibility, but oh well) you probably just want to shoot down with missiles and not melee at all.

I think with so many castings of Darkness you can walk anywhere you want in this place. It should be even better than invisibility I think because no one can "spot" you in the darkness.

SAFE! :D :D

I did what you guys said and managed to get away with darkness and invisibility and drinking my newly blessed healing potion after I got smacked by something in the darkness!

Then I outran a dragon and got hit by a few Ice Vortices on the way out but was okay.

So now, what is the deal with that place? I thought maybe it was a nice place, but here is what happened.

I showed up and saw these two golem guys at the door. They were neutral to me. So I said hi. The one I talked to said "I Obey" and when I walked past he suddenly attacked me. So I killed him and his friend. So that felt a little skeezy, like maybe these people were all secret jerks.

Anyways, I walk in and see these doors on the sides and when I open them NOPE NOPE NOPE its just full of dudes. Thankfully I have 100 stealth so they didn't notice me. A few did, but not the ones by the door. So I was able to close the doors and just kept tromping on.

Then there was a big fight between these fire guys and the ice guys, and I shot a few fire guys. The Ice guys were friendly. Then though when I went and picked up some of my arrows some of the ice guys got mad at me! So I chopped them up and their friends didn't care and were just nice to me still. I left the other arrows on the ground and a wand of wonder on the ground too.

Is that how it works? They hate you if you pick stuff up?

So I moved on, leaving some of my arrows behind. And here's some Chaos Diplomat dude. I talk to him and he's all like "You smell! Go kill the Ice Queen for CHAOS!" And I was like, well, not gonna do that, chaos jerk. I'm on team good.

Then I ran into that jerk Berserker Prince who was all like "Your gonna kill the Ice Queen! Grr" And I was like, I'm really not going to. I'm a good guy. If chaos wants me to, I'm not doing it.

Then you know what happened.

Anyways, I'm not gonna get crowned yet. I'm going to make a bazillion arrows and go back and kill all those jerks. I don't care if they are lawful or what. They are gonna eat it.

That's it for now!

Thanks everyone! :)

Double Post!

Hi everybody!

So. I'm having food problems. I've left the Ice Palace like I said, but don't know exactly what my approach should be now. I've offered like 40k more gold but am only at spiritually invincible? Is that moving backwards somehow?

Anyways, I decided to try bridge building and cut down like 30 trees and tried to make them into bridges but failed every time. So I went to Terinyo to talk to the carpenter and get training and buy large rations (I'm that desperate!) but even training with him did not raise my skill.

So I started exploring random dungeons and after getting into an absurd fight with a room of Troll Kings that had a river running through the level (They threw like 400 rocks at me it was so annoying!) I kept making my way down through the shadowy dungeon.

Nothing good there except an altar, but I was running out of food so I couldn't sit around trying to sacrifice guys on it. Also half the room was open to the water and guys on the other side kept throwing rocks at me. And these bad guys called Shadow Wyrms(?) kept coming at me from the water and I guess they can't be sacrificed? So it wasn't a great altar.

I started exploring a Sinister dungeon, but had to vamoose when I almost ran out of food. I did find Black Dragon Scale Mail which is good cause I can take off my artifact armor (Mummy Wraps) to help with the food. I ate my one and only Gelee Royale to avoid dying while I ran back to Terinyo to buy more food. I don't have enough to get back to explore the dungeon, and without all my cool artifact gear I probably am not tough enough anyways.

The stupid ratling traders haven't restocked and I hate them.

So any ideas what I should do? I feel helpless right now. Like all I want to do is get a huge pile of food again, get a bunch of arrows, and kill everything in the Ice palace.

But of all things for a level 20 character to be in danger from, starving should not be one. I don't even get many corpses cause I don't have the food preservation skill.

Any suggestions? I'd actually be willing to get crowned even if it means not slaughtering the Ice Palace just to solve this problem. But like I said, I'm only at spiritually invincible again somehow, even though I just sacrificed like 40k gold.

Do you have any herbs available? Even cursed stomafilla aren't terrible. Try to remember to remove your artifacts when you don't need them and definitely don't let yourself get strained. In your travels, consider fighting wilderness encounters when you hit them. A jackal pack is annoying but usually good for a pile of corpses even if you don't have food preservation. If you need arrows, barbarian packs can give lots (just run away from them for a bit and let them shoot at you).

Not sure about your piety level... Did you switch alignments recently? Use some expensive prayers? Piety also does go down slowly over time. If you've been using a lot of turns without restocking it, that could be why.

Shadow wyrms are considered undead and can't be sacrificed.

Burb
08-21-2015, 07:41 PM
Considering how much you've been running around the wilderness it is not strange. Piety goes down over time - it's percentage based, so you lose more the more you have.

Don't waste your gold on piety unless you've run out of other uses for it (buying from shops, stat training, item repair etc). Definitely try to find one where you can live sac, otherwise you'll probably have to wait until later in the game to get crowned (casino gold will make it trivial).

You *are* carrying your bridge building manual with you right? You can't level it up without it.

Lasher
08-21-2015, 07:44 PM
Yeah I have all my artifacts off. I've had a few herbs here and there, but not enough and at one point I ate Curaria Mancox to help my hunger. I found a small patch of Stomafillia in a 2x2 spot. But I couldn't rely on that because sometimes I'd get stomacemptia and it took so long for the herbs to grow I'd get hungry again.

As for prayers, the only thing I prayed for was, I smacked a Karma Lizard. I "Felt like this was a bad idea" and prayed after I killed it with arrows. But my prayer remained unheard. That's the only prayer I've used since I got to the Altar in Dwarf Town. So I have no idea what's going on. Maybe I spent too much time without offering?

As for alignment, it's only gone up since I shot that blink dog ages ago. That took me to NL, but then I got back to L and that's when I really started sacrificing stuff. Then I did the Pyramid and Graveyard and the Dwarven Graveyard and killed the water snake, and during that I got to L+. I've been at L+ ever since.

So I don't know what's going on.

I somehow need to build up a big enough supply of food that I can safely get to the arena (easy its on like D:4) and stay there till the dumb ratlings get more food.

Anyways thanks again for all the advice guys! I can't believe how crazy things have gotten with this girl when she started out so strong.

Oh, Bridge Building! Any tips? I'm at 17 skill and can't raise it when I level up, and the carpenter doesn't improve it even when he trains me. And after 30 logs, I failed every time and leveled up since then and my skill hasn't gone up. So I'm stuck there too.

EDIT: Burb I just saw your post. No I am not carrying the manual. I tried reading it and it didn't do anything so I...got rid of it. Somewhere.

I guess I'll try to find it and solve my food problem at the same time.

Thanks! :)

I think I read earlier that you precrowned, yes/no?
If yes, then piety counters goes a bit bonkers in P23(ver 1.2) and you don't need absolutely close.
Not sure if that is fixed in the latest R59.
Which adom version do you play?

You shouldn't need need extreme amounts of food ... if you also eat corpses.
Now not using wiki makes it pretty risky since there are so many different corpses with different effects (if you haven't played a lot and know this stuff w/o wiki).
This is perfectly ok, some ppl want to play as spoilerfree as possible.
Maybe trolls are an exception, what race are your character?

Even w/o eating corpses mobs should drop enough food for most characters, are you walking a lot back and forth?
Not killing stuff deliberately? Neutral mobs are perfectly fine to behead for food, exp and loot LOOOOOT.
Attacking friendly mobs will prompt you with yes/no do you really want ... blabla.

Time eats food.
Chopping logs takes a lot of time.
Extensive fletchery also takes some time.
Are you searching everywhere, that takes time?
Are you using w5 to heal up? only useful in the very very early game.

Finally:
Beeing strained and especially strained! adds a lot of food drain on top of most activities.

I'm in version 59! :)

I do not know what pre-crowning is in ADOM.

I'm a High Elf!

And yeah I'm eating and killing everything that isn't friendly.

Yeah I also made lots of arrows, but at the time I had food. And I chopped lots of logs trying to learn bridge building, and that's how I ended up using all my food.

But I don't walk around strained and I take my artifacts off when I walk around outside or chop trees. Now I've taken them off all the time till I figure out what to do about food.

Ok then it's the wilderness thats killing your food.
Walking in wilderness where one step on the overworld map equals a lot of steps in a dungeon.
And chopping wood, without woodcraft each tree takes roughly 200! turns to chop, it's faster with woodcraft but .... you also need several runs because of heavy logs and when you're doing all this you're basically only spending food.
I agree with what someone previously wrote, I'd rather grind mobs for hours trying to find a wand of cold than building a bridge (if there was a forest on thk6 I would consider it ... maybe)

Elves require less food than a lot of other races I think it's more or less based on your hp regen rate.

But don't fret, I've had this issue when I played early adom (and I think a lot of others as well), it's mostly down to stop fiddling around, go kill something.

Oh one last thing of course of you happen to wear any items with affix "of hunger" ... remove and trash.

I'm back on top baby!

:D

Everything is awesome!

I went to Terinyo and bought some food and went exploring. I checked out another random dungeon, I think this one was "Sinister".
Anyways, it helped a lot! I found Eternium plate mail and an eternium shield (same stats as my adamantium one but lighter), and a crystal shield (worse DV, Better PV, but heavier), and an Eternium Helmet! I have Black Dragon Mail which was nice, but not as good as eternium.

Anyways, I found an altar that was neutral and converted it. Then just down the hall a little ways was a BIG tension room full of chaos guys. I sacced like all but one who was scared. Then I sacrificed some random guys and eventually got Absolutely close to my god. And I prayed and he made me immune to fire and also gave me a Crossbow and a Quarrel called "Thunderstroke". I identified it right away. The crossbow is a normal heavy crossbow. He also gave me some other regular quarrels. Oh, and an amulet of Order but I think I had one already. Is that what the Sheriff gives you?

Anyways anyways, I kept exploring down and found a nice friendly Dark Elf Princess which was nice. I've never seen a nice one. I'd love to get her on my team so we could go adventuring together, but I don't think that's possible. So I explored farther and found a vault of Spiders. I also felt threatened, which I think is a vault. Or a mini-vault? I didn't find any artifacts in it. I did get a spell book of burning hands I was able to read. I also found a potion of Gain Attributes I blessed and drank right away. I also ate a Dark Orc and got more potential strength then found a blessed potion of strength potential which raised my potential.

In this dungeon I also found a statue of a Dogman(?) that I kicked and it made me stronger. ("You feel different") Strength bonus was all I noticed.

And lastly, I found a wand of cold!

YEAH!

No more bridges for me! I'm gonna go kill the High King now I think? Maybe or should I just go back and kill all the Ice people? Its funny even though I'm lawful I just have so many people on my kill list.

My babe has no social life I swear, all she has is bad lists not the good kind. ;P But then again I couldn't come up with a name, so that's probably my fault.

Oh! One more thing! Where is Blup? I FINALLY have potions of carrot juice. I want to learn how to swim but can't find Blup. I checked Terinyo and his mom's house but didn't see him in either. I told him a long time ago where his mom is and he flew away so he should be there by now. Now I didn't 100% explore his mom's house because it was dangerous. In fact I almost died from a turtle, but got my teleportitis just in time.

AND AND on top of all this I went to the Ratling traders and they got Lizards back in stock. I bought all 50 or so that the girl had. So I'm ready! Ready to cross the names off my list!

So yeah, off to waste a High King with my new godly toy and then probably gonna shoot some ice people!

:D

Once you tell Blup where his mom is, he is gone forever. He doesn't ever make it home, for whatever reason. You have water breathing already though, so swimming isn't really a big deal at this point.

Make good use of Thunderstroke. It is stupid powerful, especially for an archer.

Thunderstroke is powerful enough to win 99% of the game for you, with the remaining 1% being when it doesn't come back. Yes, you read right, it returns automatically after firing almost all the time. When playing an Archer getting this or True Aim makes the game much, much easier. Fire immunity will be super useful for a certain location you'll need to visit.

Your food woes remind me of my earlier years of playing. I'd feel awful if the mom is like, "My son died trying to get back to me. And now this adventurer wants a reward. I guess I did promise, but it'll have to wait till after the funeral. Then I'll give her the stuff I was saving for Blup." :(

DOUBLE POST:

GUYS! I am Bringing the House down! There's a house, and it was standing there, and now it's not. Cause I BROUGHT IT DOWN!

I went to the High King place and WRECKED him. He had like no chance. It took three thunder stoke shots or something. And I had a potion of booze luckily cause my wand of cold didn't have enough charges! Oops.

So he died, I stole his ring, and took off. Off to the Ice palace! I killed every single one of those ambushers! Every last one. They are dead good riddance thank you sir! Then I explored farther and found a forest full of yeti, then a windy place full of water! I got blown in a few times and half drowned to death! I used a lot of spenseweed to save my life. I forgot my helmet of water breathing.

So I found the beautiful Ice Lady who was kind of okay with me. She asked me to go kill some punk to the west. So after the very long trek out of her palace with a few more unwanted baths I made it out and found this cave right next door.

So I go down, I'm doing fine, and by the stairs on the second to last level I find a Chaos Altar. Hmmm. I'm already crowned, but I felt Very Excited. I convert the altar to Lawful with my heaps of gold I got from killing all the ambushers. So I check out this Greater Vault. It's Red Dragons.

O_o

I kill a few baby dragons, and red drakes, and fire lizards, and then I get the horns corruption. I lure a whole bunch of them to the altar and start sacrificing them. I don't know if there is much point to this since I'm already crowned, but whatever. Remember my crowning made me immune to fire.

Anyways, I decide that it's probably best to come back later and leave the vault alone. But I checked out the items I found from my rampage and found a cursed wand of monster summoning.

Do you know what I did? I walked up to the altar, pointed the wand at it and summoned some guy. Then he got sacrificed! :P So I do this a few times and I get a chaos mutant, and a chaos corruptor, and an assassin, whatever. Then I get to the last charge and do it.

Moloch.

Right next to me.

I summoned an angry moloch right next to myself.

;_;

I switch to coward and Offer it, assuming it will do nothing cause I've seen molochs wreck altars before.

But it worked! :D

Get WRECKED Moloch!

So, I mean, at that point I go down and find like a mini-vault of Frost Giants and kill them all and their boss. No big deal. One of them hit me once (not the boss) for half my health though! Whew.

So on my way back I decide, just to check out that Red Dragon Vault. It takes like two hours of real life time just killing baby dragons and lizards and drakes and eventually Fire Elementals. I'd say I sacrificed half and killed half.

So I'm checking all my loot and it's all good. I find a scroll of item detection and it shows 3, count'em THREE things in the main chamber. Well I have to check that out. Instead of pressing myself up against the place, I try a wand of digging. No luck. Hmm, try again. Nope. Hmmm.

Okay! Ring of Searching on, walk along the edge! I find the opening, there's no door I'm just face to face with a bunch of red dragons and Ancient Red Dragons. :(

I shoot a single blast of a wand of cold. It does okay, but I just unthinkingly angered the entire room I think. Also I'm out of charges.

RUN! Run for the altar!

Oh no I'm confused. Drink a blessed healing Potion! Run. Run!

I make it to the Altar, and BAM get Offered dragon! So I offer a whole bunch of them, one by one. But it's not always perfect, and this Ancient Red Wyrm shows up!

Can they even be sacrificed? I throw on the orb of water for the Will power bonus and check my ammo. I find some dragon slaying quarrels and bless them.

It's go time! He cast some spells and tried to breath a lot of fire, but I got him! YEAH!

Now that the boss is down Lets go find those artifacts.

Nope, theres a ton of Ancient Red Dragons still. >_< I go back to sacrificing them. Occasionally I fight them off really well since they can't hurt me with fire and I have dragon slaying quarrels.

Then...another Ancient Red Wyrm! Two?! Why are there two?! Okay, fight him! Oh no I'm confused, and there's more dragons, and I'm not confused oh no can I offer him? I can! :D

Okay, both Ancient Wyrms are gone, surely there aren't any more. Let's fearlessly venture forward! A Dorn beast spawns in the vault.

One shot from Thunderstroke and it dies. Oh yeah. I'm too cool for school.

Suddenly I'm confused! What, another Wyrm? How can this be? And then Red Dragons and Ancient red dragons surround me and there's the Wyrm I'm still confused what can I do? Okay I'm hurt to half health, and my confusion is gone. Coward mode. Drink a blessed Extra healing. I'm up against a wall. Now...try to put on a ring of invisibility or cast darkness? I go with Darkness.

Seems to be okay. I use the last charge of a wand of digging to get a long hallway into the stone so at least they can't surround me. Immediately after the wand zap I get SMACKED down to like 20 HP from full. Oh no. Pray! I get fully healed and run down my little dead end, without a plan. Maybe my teleportitis will save me. I'm resisting mind attacks and dragons are following me. What can I do?

Potion of Booze. Dip the digging wand, get one more charge, use it to get back to the rest of the dungeon. Run. Sacrifice more dudes.

Turns out, overall there were like 20 Ancient Red Dragons, 15 Red Dragons, and TEN, yes 10 Ancient Greater Red Wyrms.

I killed or sacrificed them all thanks to my dragon slaying ammo.

I have no idea if sacrificing them was a good idea or not. Anyways, now there's just piles of loot laying around. I have 120 thousand gold right now and I already offered like 70 thousand of it. I didn't really get any upgrades in gear, but I got lots of potions (No gain attributes or cure corruption, shucks) and rings (already have better, but ring of invisibility will be nice), and random scrolls.

The artifacts were The Protector shield, The Hammer of the Gods, and The Crown of Havlor. I Greater identified the crown and it seems to be a normal crown, just with good stats.

I also found a helmet of water breathing so when I go back to the Ice Queen I don't have to worry about drowning in her windy place.

So that's where I'm at. I leveled up like 8 times doing all that. I think that's enough for today. I'll be interested in seeing what the Ice Queen has to say.

Thanks everyone! :)

Good job!
Sacrify them is a safe solution, the wyrms are VERY tough but even if you sacrify them you get the artifacts.
They are worth a crapton of exp.
(I've been dealing with exactly the same vault with my barb and got 7 wyrms down and then ran out of juice.)

Sacrificing is not preferable because wyrms and dragons drop valuable loot - if you're not planning on getting post crowned (probably impossible given 3x artifacts spawned) the extra piety is pretty useless. Better than dying, of course, but kill all that you can. Perhaps just as important, you get very little xp for sac compared to killing.

Not bad artifacts, hammer will be useful later, protector is a decent ish shield, havlor has great stats. I seem to keep getting crap like silver key and cat's claw in my greater vaults ;_;

Hi everybody.

I've kept on going. Nothing too huge to report. I beat the Fire Temple and the Air Temple without too much trouble. I'm at the earth temple right now though and am worried. While digging into the temple a bunch of guys came after me. I ran way while fighting and now I went up the stairs. The problem is there are a bunch of guys right at the bottom of the stairs, including the Stone Boss.

So....not really sure what to do.

Also....I didn't see the Cat Lord. I've been killing cats left and right. So when I got to the cat lord level (Feels removed from the world or something) I read a blessed scroll of monster detection, and didn't see him anywhere. Now, I didn't have my mummy clothing on at the time, but I think I can see invisible anyways. I saw the Invisible Stalkers at the Ice Palace without it on, and just now in the Casino gift shop a named hobgoblin appeared. When I looked at him he was described as the Invisible Something or Other, so I think I can see Invisible.

Anyways, I found the stairs down in the Cat lord level and didn't explore the rest of it. If I go back to get gear or something at the Casino, could he ambush me?

Also, I'm at 100 Literacy and 100 Concentration, and I'm a High Elf. I have a spell book of Acid Ball. Should I try to read it so I can use it on the guys from the Earth Temple at the bottom of the stairs? Or would it be better to just use my bow? I have some ammo that slays practically everything, except for Elementals. I have Demon, Humanoid, Construct, Undead, and Dragon at least. Would any of them be good?

Would going invisible help? Can Stone Grues and Earth Elementals see invisible?

I tried to get one or two of the guys to follow me up the stairs so I could fight them one by one, but they didn't follow me.

So that's where I'm at right now. Thanks everyone!

Got him! Honestly, I feel kind of bad for the big guy. He went down waaaaay easy. So did all his friends too. I just thought he would be a lot tougher than he was. I actually went back up to get my stuff that burdened me and had more trouble with an Ogre Emperor.

Okay. So, I got the Earth Temple down, and after a frustrating experience with a Tension room of Ancient Black Dragons destroying my wands of digging, then smashing my pickaxes trying to get in, I managed to get into the Mana temple!

It was scary, but wasn't overall too bad. The boss came out into the hallway with me, so that helped. He confused me a lot, and shot me for like 100 HP once, and made it dark a lot, but I got him. I had a working wand of light and quarrels of Humanoid Slaying, so I killed him.

On my way down there I can say the lower levels of this the CoC are definitely real. I had to kill a Greater Moloch, an Ancient Karmic Dragon, some other Dragons, all sorts of Giants, and stuff like that. Black Unicorns are teleporting throughout the levels, and I've run into a few more quickling queens. I managed to shoot one, and have been Fireballing the others like you guys taught me.

I also found a greater vault full of undead and just said NOPE.

I had the fun of looking for the stairs and in one room found a Jackal summoner, a bee hive, a few random giants, and an Emperor Lich. I managed to get away with a door creation wand but had to kill a greater moloch behind me.

Okay! So now I'm just double-checking all my stuff and am gonna go after the end game. I had a wand of Devastation but the Black Dragons got it. So I guess I have to kill everything? THunderstroke should do the job I think. I don't have unlimited slaying ammo after all.

Wish me luck!

The problem is there are a bunch of guys right at the bottom of the stairs, including the Stone Boss.

So....not really sure what to do.

I have some ammo that slays practically everything, except for Elementals. I have Demon, Humanoid, Construct, Undead, and Dragon at least. Would any of them be good?

Would going invisible help? Can Stone Grues and Earth Elementals see invisible?

Normally people boost willpower, booze up fireball wand and use it a lot.

Elementals are constructs. Grues are demon constructs.

Both of these can see invisible. It is normal to be swarmed and since dragging them in portions to different level no longer works, best solution is just fireball them to oblivion.

Victory!

Its been a long time since I've won. It feels good again. I screwed up on the last level though. Oh I almost got myself killed.

On that last level there is the central hallway that runs to the left right? And I didn't want to get too close and have to fight lots of guys at once, especially in case Thunderstroke didn't come back. So I decided to lure the guys to the right of the two little rooms full of chaos monsters. So what I did after fighting just a little bit was shoot a wand of Far Slaying on a pretty low power straight left. BZZZT! I'm so smart.

Oh.

Hello Balors.

SUP FISTANARIUS HOW ARE YOU I'M FINE DID THAT WAND HIT YOU IT WAS AN ACCIDENT IN FACT IT WASN'T EVEN ME THAT DID IT IT WAS SOME OTHER GIRL YOU JUST MISSED HER.

Thunderstroke GO! And.... don't return. :(

Run! Use 100 of my 160 PP to teleport! Use my scroll of teleport!

Demon slaying ammo on these other 3 balors in the tiny room on the right. And...they're all still alive. And I'm out of good ammo.

Run like a coward! Grab that ammo. Get smacked and corrupted (Oh no now I teleport what a tragedy.)

Back into a corner, shooting frantically. One dead Balor, two dead Balor, Three dead Balor. Whew.

Go grab the ammo. Maybe it would work better if it was blessed?

Yup! Kill Fistanarius in two shots.

Otherwise everything was pretty straightforward. It was easily one of the most tense battles I've been in though because the enemies were tough and every single shot it was like, will Thunderstroke return?

But I got both handles closed, and killed everything.

Then I did the White Unicorn quest and took off to go back home.

I also got to thinking that maybe it should be more clear about what to do in the final room for new players. I will make a new topic so we can talk about it!

Thanks everyone!
