This was my second character since the steam release, and I managed to close the gate with him. Seemed like a pretty standard wizard wand-of-destruction ending. The highlights were:

Popped into the SMC long enough to see that the downstairs were in the next room, then ran away to come back later. But not before killing a rat - or so I thought. I was certain that was my first kill. I'd killed 25 of them when I got the quest from the Old Barbarian. But even by the end of the game, after killing 121 rats, he still wouldn't give me courage! Must have killed something else, but no idea what.

When I came back later to do the UD there was a pulsing power room. Had to return with some digging and mapping equipment to find out that it was the scorched spear. Didn't use it much, except on the occasional shambling mound.

D8 had a room of ogre magi. Very scary at that point in the game, but luckily I'd already picked up the teleportation spell and teleport control by that point, so I avoided them until I got the AMW. I did think they were going to crash the game though - with a few ogre magi on screen casting spells the game runs incredibly slowly, half the screen going black a few times as well.

Did the first two ice queen quests for the first time. The vault was a fire vault, pretty straightforward with frost bolt and good training for the ToEF. Had deaths blade (never used), 7LB, and possibly Whirlwind, although I never found it. It also had a RoDS, which I kept in case my one fireproof blanket burned in the ToEF, and eventually used on D50 for spellbooks of acid ball. Tried to use it on D49, but just got a message like "not here". Didn't realise you couldn't wish for things on D49...

The closest Wizbit got to dying was to the ACW. Thanks to the auto-save delay, I was hit by 3 energy blasts before I even knew the ACW was there. So glad he didn't die then, otherwise I would probably have uninstalled ADOM in anger.

No artifacts in the casino. Picked up the tentacle mouth corruption while gambling, which was incredibly annoying. Had to get rid of it, and read one of the SoCR from saving the dying mage. That was the only issue I had with corruption in the game.

A giant vault on the level below the casino had Thunderstroke, Serpents Bite, and Aylas Scarf. Not bad! Used all three for most of the rest of the game.

The Mana Temple was fun - a friendly white unicorn was generated in the middle of the temple, attacking the creatures while I fired bolts in from the door. That was OK until the mage cast darkness so I couldn't see the unicorn any more. I was too scared to fire any more bolts in case I angered an extremely experienced unicorn, so I stayed by the door using melee and acid ball until the mage came close, then acid balled him (although he did get off a couple of death rays).

D48 had a titan, moloch, and greater moloch. Used a combination of teleportation and 7LB to sidle past them, activate the orbs, and descend to D49. Potion of Uselessness got me Wyrmlance (never used).

D50 done with wands of destruction, nice and straightforward. Did unicorn and water dragon quests on the way home.

Time for a melee character I think...
