Was reading the previous thread on what game challenges need achievements, and I thought, with all these long time players, there's gotta be some silly things they do just for the hell of it.

For instance, if I play a dwarf, I gotta use axes all game. No other weapons, just dual wield axes or axe/ shield-- not a challenge per se but more like a compulsive thing I guess.

Also if I play a mindcrafter I gotta use quarterstaves. Just because. It's not a challenge, staves are pretty decent weapons especially in the hands of mindcrafters, but I can't see them using any other weapons for some reason.

Necromancers... Gotta be unarmed, because I just can't stop using shadow touch. If they had no other class powers, just magic and shadow touch, I'd be very happy.

I hoard gold to be able to cash all items I desire in the casino.
It generally comes down to try and carry all junk I find to sell in dwarftown/hmw.
Blessed girdle of carry/gogs and very strained are all well known companions of mine.

I've done a bunch of weird stuff, I guess, though nothing consistently...

I've played (and won) the game doomed from start to finish on several occasions.
I've played with <50 speed for the whole game
I've tried on numerous occasions to beat the game without using any items or equipment, but have never gotten passed the ToEF.
I've played part of the Zen Monk game (start to finish blind), but it's just far too tedious for me.

I'm curious, how did you get your speed less than 50 the whole game? Boots of the slow shuffle?

I think I used AdomBot to set my base speed down to 10 instead of 100.

Oh ok, I just thought there was a trick to it like dooming at the start. Actually I keep meaning to try that, but I'm still working on the unarmed duelist. Last one died because I'm an idiot and played at 3am so I pickpocketed a greater mummy while sick.and it got 2 critical hits in a row, went from 70 hp to -20 in a round :(

What happens when you play a dwarf mindcrafter? Only halberds?

What's your strategy on this? I assume spells are a definite part since melee is pretty much out and missiles require equipment. Some type of hardy monk?

Edit: just tried the hardy monk strat and relearned that monks can't rage. Ug.

Edit 2: tried again and it went ok until I had a surge of power for shiny bracers... My willpower in game was pretty good but IRL much too low :p

Ha! Funny. But seriously, Class trumps race in my book, so quarterstaves. But I tend to like high mana races for mindcrafter, so I can better use their awesome class powers :)

When I play a monk, I almost always play monk barehanded start to finish. (though missiles are still used)

When I play an elementalist I kill Yergius, Hotzenplotz and his guards, and Kranf Niest in that order before doing anything else.

An achievement for removing a cursed item by standing naked under an acid trap would be hilarious
