A brief summary.
Raven birthsign, turned out to be a great help. Monks are good with 2-handed weapons, and the Rune-covered trident is really a great weapon for them.
A lot of stuff went wrong in this game, mostly because of dumb mistakes. At least I learned to avoid these in the future. And despite all the disasters, the character became quickly very powerful. And no, I did not abuse rings of weakness this game. :D
Early game:
- did not save the puppy or enter UD, gnome monk starts out very wimpy.
- able to create stable morgia/mareillon pattern in.. I think it was the PC
- found a bracers of toughness +6 to as well as heavy crossbow of accuracy very early
- precrowned with Hammerhead
- FIRST DISASTER: trapped robe - took a few steps into ToEF to burn it
- robbed Darkforge: elven chain mail and eternium halberd to practice for RCT, woohoo!
- generated Dwarftown on D:9, meaning corruption-free smithing!
Mid game:
- was only about level 13 or so when I visited Blup's mum, this is the second most dangerous thing I've done this game, but got away with succes
- started gemology / mining scumming.
- SECOND DISASTER: killed the dwarf smith in dwarf town, angering Waldenbrook, summoning thugs and losing the opportunity to chat with the dwarven mystic. Killed Waldenbrook with darkness on D:10.
- Results of smithing: Elven Chain Mail [+7,+9], mithril girdle [+6,+6], rustproof brass knuckles [+8,+4]
and last but not least girlish rustproof Diadem of Beauty [+6,+6] +4 Ap :D
Rustproofing turned out to be a good idea as I promptly stumbled into a tension room of rust monsters.
- met Khelavaster, but went back upstairs because I wanted to save him, decided to sort out some bussiness on the surface first. I did kill the chaos servants attacking him, this turned out to be fatal.
- did all the remaining surface quests: Griff, ToTHK, pyramid, got crowned with Boots of the Divine Messenger, Thrundarr quest 1-4, ToEF (ACW was blinded and PoCC'ed), the rift, went into SMC and descended UD to eat the oracle (had already used a couple of crystals of knowledge too).
- THIRD DISASTER: now it finally was time to save Khelavaster, I had picked up a RoDS somewhere along the road. So I descended the CoC.. somewhere on D:15 or so I saw this weird colored monster, in a reflex decided to 'C'hat.. OH NO, THAT WAS KHELAVASTER! I didn't recognize him without the surrounding chaos servants. :o
- Good news: I picked up the poison hands corruption somewhere, real nice for a melee character with a spare couple of thick gauntlets!
- .. descending the upper COC went smoothly until:
-FOURTH DISASTER: okay, I have a spare wish, lets get some 7LB to minimize corruption. Next, I arrive at the casino, where they had no less then 3 pairs for sale! What a waste of a wish. On the bright side, they also sold a glowing wand with 2 charges (3 with final charge).
- FIFTH DISASTER: I thought heck, I can cast invis, slow monster and I've got some good dragon slaying ammo, lets wish for an AKW. This was stupid, for two reasons. First of all, of course you don't want to shoot it cause it will see you. Second, my stack of dragon slaying ammo was simply too small, with only about 8 quarrels or so.. on the bright side, I did happen to have a ring of elemental mastery equipped.
This fight very very nearly killed me. I used every resource I could think of: wands of stunning, poisoned ammo of slaying, potions of blindness.. it was not enough. So I used another wish for rings of karmic absorption and started hammering it in melee.. not a great idea cause I got only two rings and they turned to ash after two or three hits. At this point the AKW was poisoned and down to severely wounded, but it still kept regenerating and refused to die. I could have teleported away, but didn't want to let another two wishes go completely to waste. So I did the desperate thing: stun it and attack in melee, without rings of karmic absorbtion. Survived with only 50 HP left while slowed and gained 7 levels.. phew! There also happened to be an altar nearby so I sacced $1.000.000 casino gold to get rid of cursed and doomed.
- The deeper COC had lesser vaults of dragons and giants and also a greater vault of undead. I decided to give the greater vault a try with my monk switching places power and undead slaying weapon, but of course this was another mistake. Soon I gave up and teleported to the stairs down.
- Temple of elemental mana was a very tense fight. Wasted another wish here, because I wanted unholy water to convert potions of invisibility into blindness. Another mistake, it would have been risk-free to wish for potions of blindness instead. Now all I got was about 5 uncursed potions of water. :(
However, throwing a PoCC into the face of the archmage and hammering him at berserk with poisoned slaying ammo did the job.
- uselessness gift was the scorched spear
- D:50 was a long and hard fight. Fistarianus brought me down to 1 HP at one occasion and I had to pray for healing about 3 times. I gained about 8 corruptions, but made it. Killed all the intelligent monsters, got to level 50 and handled the levers.
- Afterwards I used a magical writing set to create 5 SoCC, for basically no cost. Another awesome monk power! It cleansed me of all corruption, but I did the unicorn quest anyway just because its a unicorn and I am supposed to be a champion of law.
EDIT: the brief summary is not so brief, sorry 'bout that.
