Hi guys,

I am what you might refer an ancient adom player ;) .... playing the game since gamma 8 or gamma 9... Recently I had a long break from ADOM and started playing again 3 weeks ago. Already making an ULE that I posted in the YAVP section ... I don't use forums much as being an ancient one ;) I thought I simply don't need to ... Yet I was wrong ... :)

Quite by accident I read about the wish engine and pick pocketing gremlins in order to start it. I already know all the details necessary but one:

How do you use copy/paste functionality in adom that ppl on this forum are often referring to? I am not planning on using the copy/paste for the purposes of the wish engine, as for me it's simple cheat (I won't argue on this - for me it's not debatable) but I would be glad to make some things in Adom more automatic?

So can anyone please explain step by step, how to use copy/paste?
Oh, and I use windows version of Adom ... so all based on windows commands.

A related question: is there a shortcut to repeat the last command in windows ADOM?

Welcome, oh ancient one.

Sound exactly like I did, about a year ago.

For the dos version running under windows, I *used*
to just type letters into a text editor, copy, then right
click on the title bar of my ADOM console window and
click paste. I'm using Vista now, and haven't tried it
yet, as I don't copy/paste commands often, just for
rare experiments.

For the winbeta version of ADOM, I like to use a program
called robotask. It allows you to send keystrokes and
otherwise automate lots of programs.

Yeah, adombot is a lot simpler though : )

Prolly that and auto-explore would make it better than
Crawl agian. One can wish, I suppose.

Download robotask and spend about an hour getting the
hang of it.

Oh ... I thought it was an in-built feature of ADOM. If I need an external program for that then "No thank you". Just like taking someone else's save game, and playing with it claiming it's yours -simple cheat, nothing more.

Use AdomSage... or Dosbox +Dos version.

No. Just like building a robot who can sit at your PC and keep doing simple tasks. Or getting a keyboard that will press its own buttons in a particular sequence.

To me it was like putting a piece of tape on
the spacebar for casino fun. Sure, I could
press the key repeatedly for a month, but
why?

I've always found that simply copying in commands from a text editor works fine.

It's how I managed to read half a million scrolls of item creation, as well as how I wished for 200,000 bracers of toughness :)
One thing I need to note: When pasting large amounts of text, the computer can get away on you and start working so fast it skips some of the commands. Typically, for every 50,000 "read scroll" commands I paste in I expect the computer to read somewhere around 35K-40K scrolls. Could just be my computer being too fast for itself :p

Other notes with large quantities of commands: remember to eat! I lost three characters due to pasting in 5,000 pickpocket commands without any eating, and because it exits itself you may never know how you died.
The other thing to rememeber is that monsters can come up and slowly stab you to death while you're powerless to stop them. To prevent this, I made a giant room and filled it with chaos rats on each level. Enough rats, and other monsters will stop appearing.
