Heart_of_a_Killer_Beetle, the female troll, never really lived up to her name. She never was a particularly courageous child and when her family died in a raid, she was so traumatised that she was forevermore mortally afraid of getting hurt. Hence she was commonly called 'Chicken', and she certainly did live up to that name. When in a fight, she always was careful not to get too close to her foes and barely dared get close enough to an opponent that she could reach them by thrusting out her club to her utmost reach. Truth be told, she was a true and proven coward.

One fine day, she entered the Drakalor Chain, confident that she was going to save the world. Well, actually, she had been running away from a dog that had given her a funny look, and the only road leading her away from that threat lead right over the Drakalor Pass. She was understandably afraid to go back, so tried to traverse the Drakalor Chain. Of course, that brought her out of the frying pan into the fire. Apart from an unsignificant farming community, the whole area was brimming with stuff that wanted to eat her face.

In self-defence, Chicken killed numerous opponents, slowly growing more robust and more skilled at avoiding trouble. Of course, she didn't get any better at bashing stuff with her club, but eventually she found that her scared attitude didn't prevent her from getting better at shooting bows or hurling daggers. And she was strong enough that she could still hurt most enemies by frantically waving her big club at them.

Chicken learnt to more quickly recover from wounds, picked up some herbs to make her more nimble (to more easily get out of the way) and more headstrong (so that she wouldn't run screaming from every last mad village craftsman, although that worked out better than expected), and generally picked up large numbers of rocks and arrows so she could shoot scary stuff from afar - much less harassing than letting them come close enough that she could see the whites of their eyes (esp. if those where all-white eyes like those of zombies - eeeek!).

There were some foes she just couldn't hit with her swings or shots, but a friendly old dwarf had given her a wand that blew up stuff in a very handy fashion, which helped get rid of a really scary parched old guy in some tomb who was raising undead like there was no tomorrow. Much later she ended up in a fiery tower - wouldn't have entered it in the first place if she hadn't been entirely immune to fire - where hitting things was getting really difficult, and the most scary opponent there, an ugly corrupted dragon-thing, was much too nimble and robust to be hit, much less hurt even by the best shots of her magical rune-covered sling, so she loaded up a magic stick that shot caustic acid and zapped it a full sixteen times until the beast went away. After that, things weren't exactly easy, but much more manageable. She'd been too scared of the funny looks cats gave her, which payed off surprisingly well. With the help of that magic bauble, Chicken had a much easier time hitting things and had become enough of a tactics buff and ranged combat specialist that she could eventually hit and kill everything with melee and missiles, even some lorry-sized huge demon.

After being celebrated for saving the world, Chicken finally left the Drakalor Chain, hoping very much that her maxed Stealth skill would allow her to successfully sneak past the terrible dog she had originally run from.

# Synopsis: never changed skill from Coward, blocking all gains of melee weapon skills outside of Bart's training (and optionally wishes). Apart from ~35 wand charges (16 for ACW, 6 for Nonnak, ~10 shot along corridors on CoC_50 to cut down on the boredom), damage to foes was applied through physical attacks, i.e. by successful to-hit rolls, including Skeletal King, Nuurag-Vaarn (DV 60), Fistanarius (DV 80), all ToEF denizens other than ACW (DVs 40-45, at melee to-hit +25 and missile to-hit +45) ...
I chose Troll for the Strength and starting weapon, which would have made later two-handed weapons more attractive, except i was crowned with skullcrusher and stuck with that for the rest of the game. Trollish slow levelling made it rather difficult to get a decent melee to-hit, but it was mostly adequate, except of course for the ACW. The trickier stuff generally had to be killed with missiles, which can still acquire skill at coward tactics. Pickpocketing Whirlwind was probably the greatest stroke of luck i had in this game.

# Frost bolt was my ticket for the Ring of the High Kings. Got 10 charges via wand
of wonder and spent only 7 for three zaps. No ogre magi or ice vortices in that
dungeon, and i never found a wand of cold all game.
