This was an attempt to complete the game in as few turns as possible. I managed to close the gate and exit the Chain in 25020 turns, which isn't as good as gut's 23985 turns with Quizard, but it's an extreme record for me. There was no pickpocketing, dragon doubling, or piety abuse in this game. Game was played as a pure spellcaster.
Initial levels were gained by bolting greater claw bugs in the bug temple. Then went to ID to gain spellbooks and a blink dog corpse, which is where a huge portion of the game went (4k turns or so). With Invisibility, Teleport and some decent offense I then took down the pyramid, before moving on to the
dwarven quests. Graveyard was done by ignoring the smaller minions and taking out the big guys with lightning ball (had nothing else that would hurt them) - had to keep teleporting in and out to regen PP.
Got SoCRs from the dwarven mystic, let Khelly die, and cleared the Water Temple with ease (bolted the Snake without it ever coming near). Then razed DarkForge with Lightning Ball (woo is that fun) and got a damned tasty red dragon scale mail [+2, +14]. With some extra levels I could then take down the Fire Temple. Invisibility and Frost Bolt meant most things weren't a threat, but the Ancient Chaos Wyrm did give me some trouble. ...So I gave it some back, a la Acid Ball. Got it in a corner, with an elemental as a shield, and dissolved him into nothingness. All this time I'd been gaining levels and using morgia, so I came out of the temple level 26 and with decent HP and PP.
Dove down down down, and sine I'd ignored the High Kings dungeon I had to bypass the EG. Since I'd never done this before I ended up creating a clone and killing the original before figuring out the best way to do it. Ah well, some free xp... Robbed the casino without killing the shopkeeper, getting me more spellbooks and a girdle of giant strength. Thanks to good kitty karma I picked up a nice little cats eye ring, which I managed to hold on to. Air Temple was blown away by Magic Missile and Earth Temple came tumbling down to Acid Ball. Clearing the stone grues brought me up to level 37.
Kept on diving, and a surge of power gave me the ring of immunity (chaos spider guardian). There was a greater giant vault and several lesser dragon vaults, but instead of clearing them I simply teleported in and brought down the main enemies, netting me some easy levels. Dashed through the unreal caves with magic map and teleport, ignoring the BDC and heading straight for the Mana Temple. I had no means of trap detection so I lost lots of equipment entering the temple (only important thing was my potion of uselessness). Took the place down with Acid Ball, and after a bit of struggle the Archmage fell, bringing me to level 50 in the process.
D50 was a simple enough affair with highly trained Magic Missile, and Acid Ball for the balors and their summons (which included doppelganger kings and diamond golems, though they turned out to be easy enough to dispose of). Had to pray for PP several times, and used a couple of SoCRs, but it was all over soon enough. Chaos never knew what hit 'em :P
