View Full Version : Want to go crazy?

It's simple, just load up this save file, and hang out in the
dungeon level for a while. It's the DDL, and this is a 'fling
the bling' PC. I have already gone crazy, and suicided this PC.
I wish to share this 'joy' with all my fellow masochists : ) If
you do manage to accomplish the obvious task, then I honor you.

Side note:
I normally choose the survival talents, but after reading all
the stuff in the TH thread, I decided to give TH a few tries in
this challenge. I didn't get far enough this time to notice a
difference. I'm currently at exp. level 10 (hurray for longer
coin throw!), and have only killed 60 monsters.

Here is the file:

Nice one :)

Somewhere on that dungeon level, a poor, starving shopkeeper is wondering why he's not getting any customers.

I exited to the wilderness and returned right away to generate new monsters. One of them was a dwarf who dropped a pick axe. I started to dig in one of the corners until I woke up a stone giant. I couldn't hurt him on berserk, while his thrown rocks did massive damage, so RIP Go Crazy!

Ruining fun for others? :)

Interesting... Revealed upon death of course. An oddity I've not seen before.

I must say, I'm surprised you're using TH with a special challenge like this of all things - it loses some of its use with restrictions like that.

Did you go good and crazy before the suicide? : ) I surely did!

One of my previous blingers got to the TotHK's, and had no
wand. I found this strange, because the same PC generated
no extra shop in the entire game. Usually, the wand isn't a
problem. It led directly to the death of that PC, in one of
my most stupid deaths ever.

I was using the WoW recharge method, which has worked nicely
in the past. I stood by the lake's edge, cast, and pressed 8 as
the direction. I went through an abnormally large number of
charges (~40 actually), and got bored with it. One of the
castings was darkness, and where I was going too fast by then,
I hit the 8 key and just stepped right in the lake : )

I thought that the high kill rate that blingers tend to have,
might add value to the talent, in this challenge. Also, I want my
next blinger to win using the 'no ID' restriction, and that also
should add value. I probably wouldn't have tried it before the
TH thread, but now I'm thinking it might be worth it.

Does the strong thrower talent work with gold?

For a while I was thinking "gut is so stupid, the door will be round here somewhere..." But after kicking far more than I could be bothered with I ran into a necromancer, and blinging all his summons seemed too messy, so I let myself get surrounded and killed. The result was indeed an odd surprise. Has anyone investigated it with a pick axe? I wonder if the obtrusive wall is a hidden door or has anything strange about it...

I guess blingers have it easy enough surviving the start, but the speed talents are certainly extremely worthwhile to them at any stage. Did you go with just Alert at first and grab TH after Greased Lightning? I still think you'd want to be avoiding kills with bling since it can take so long towards the mid-game. A normal char will happily let summoners bring more fodder to plough through for loot, and melee through weaker vaults, but a blinger will generally find it very tiresome. Easier if you can just quickly take out the summoner, avoid the tension/threat rooms and insignificant vaults, and teleport enemies that don't give decent xp. Perhaps you have more patience with blinging than I did on my couple of attempts though. (Why I have little patience for it but will happily spit my way through the game I don't know...)

Huh. Strange bug.

(Tarantula did me in while I was trying to rack up kills for the pickaxe in the pyramid...)

> For a while I was thinking "gut is so stupid,

Does that imply you've stopped? : )

> the door will be round here somewhere..."

NO, it's not! It's not ANYWHERE!

> But after kicking far more than I could be bothered with

You gave up after just 'more than I could bother'?! Oh boy,
I went on *way* longer than that! I kicked myself stupid in
that level! That's not the worst of it, *I* kept thinking
"gut is so stupid", so I went through the stinking dungeon for
an eternity. Checking, re-checking, checking again... I even
went through there 's'ing like a maniac.

Eventually, I had to kill what was a promising PC, just to
find out if I really had gone crazy! Man that really hurt,
when I finally saw the stupid bookshop had *no* door. I just
felt so cheated, like when you step on an item, only to find
out the hard way, it was covering a black alter : )

> I ran into a necromancer, and blinging all his summons seemed too

Summoners are a pain to blingers, but to a mind like mine, that's
just part of the fun : )

> I wonder if the obtrusive wall is a hidden door

I am 100% certain, there is no door to be found there.

> I guess blingers have it easy enough surviving the start,

Not always, it depends on strategy. Killing NPC's will get some exp.
level-ups, but limits the gains you get from skill training. It can
make quite a difference, especially with the gemology skill in
combination with PC:2.

> Did you go with just Alert at first and grab TH after Greased

I killed NPC's with this guy, so the talents came in a flood. I
don't remember which talents came first.

> avoiding kills with bling since it can take so long

I care little about how long it takes to kill monsters. As long as
my shield skills aren't maxed, it isn't a waste of time. After one
finds some moss, normal monsters all die very quickly. Even few
summoners cause problems, for my last game, it was werewolf kings.

> a blinger will generally find it [mass slaughter ]very tiresome.

Just hold down the 't' button, that's what I do : ) Rack up shield
marks in no time, just make sure there are no kitties around, because
you will kill them before you even know it.

what is the aim of this game ? I don't Understand rules... could you explain it please ?

Do you mean the 'fling the bling' challenge, or this save file?
The 'bling' challenge is where you play as a merchant, using only
the thrown coin attack, to damage monsters. This save file
features a hidden room (a shop no less), that is apparantly
impossible to find, without a means of digging. Thus I went crazy
searching for it, because I thought there must be a hidden door
somewhere on the level.

Pain, pain, pain! I can't imagine holding down the t button so much - fills me with disgust. Even with melee chars I never hold down the direction key - I'll tap it rapidly at best, and that's only in very safe environments. With thrown coins I'd rather hit and run enemies than try and gain shields marks until I find a decent spider factory when my PV is high to concentrate on shield training.

gut, I absolutely hate you. I just had the exact same circumstance with a new char:

The only way I could have enjoyed this more, is if it had been a bookshop in a sprint game : )
You had no PV points, so you were even losing HP's with every kick! I love it : )

...hurthling thief? Or maybe beastfighter?

Grey

Right race, wrong class. Hint: I initially got to level 7 with 3 easy kills.

Archer then.

Ding ding ding! Beastfighter I would imagine to having higher St and PV, though I can see why you might think thief.

Hurthlings get St at 6, then +4 for beastfighter class = 10. My streak
of simple math continues... : )

There's always a few extra bonuses from background and random. St 10 would be possible of course, but unlikely.
