Let me start off by saying I'm not that pissed.


I was angry at the death of my merchant in mana temple, and just wanted to burn through a game. This was a wizard that i started a while ago, and picked up on just to run him to completion so it only took a few hours to get to D:49, as i had already gotten 4 orbs with him.

Not a particularly powerful wizard as far as wizards go, but this class in general is too ridiculous.

I avenged Bill Gates (see Human merchant YASD) by standing in the middle of mana temple and acid balling Nuurag Vaarn without sustaining a scratch.

I left off at D:49 because it was getting late and i figured i'd finish it later. This was last week. Saturday night, I came home pretty tired/intoxic., but for some reason i decided "man, i can finish this game in my sleep".

Now my sober self notes that on D:49, i am wearing my Amulet of Protection from YASD deliberately to guard against stupid errors and stupid deaths, but this Wizard is more than capable of finishing off D:50 without it. I get Preserver on D:49 from PoU.

My next thought "eff the AoLS, i have this game eassyyyy".

I put on the preserver.

I proceed to indiscriminately fire spells at monsters (rotating between acid/fire/light/magic missile etc) being amused at the flashy colors. Then i get the great idea that man, i bet i can stand in this corridor, close my eyes, keep casting this spell in one direction (bouncing it off the wall and into the room) and when i open my eyes, the room will be clear like magic.

Well then.

I guess several random thoughts about this game:

- This is a testament to how powerful Wizards are as a class, and need absolutely no help from the RNG. Barring a stupid self execution with magic missiles, this wizard could have easily cleared off all the intelligent monsters on D:50 should he desire. Balors were no problem, and fell easily to a +45 magic missile.

- No wishes were generated and/or used in this game, and no !oCC or SoCR were generated outside of the guaranteed spawns. The casino contained 0 artifacts, and ironfist/RoI had to be obtained from a Greater Undead Vault (which this character went through with few problems at level 35). Precrowning/crowning gifts were long sting and staff of the archmagi, which was basically trash. Preserver was generated too late to really matter, and actually ended up tempting my drunken stupidity which killed me.

- Only 2 random shops were generated during the entire game, one scroll and one potion, along with ZERO altars in the span of D:14 and lower meaning i had to go back to dwarftown to use an altar.


- From the Greater UD vault:

The following monsters were vanquished:
10 lich kings
24 master liches

Amusingly enough, Emperor Lich is missing from this equation. At critically wounded, he was executed by a bolt from his own summoned Great Karmic Wyrms.


- I entered the rift with both Quickling tree corruptions, and interestingly, the equipment destruction seemed to be minimal. This is the first time i noticed this, I only lost about 4 different potions to smashing, and a single arrow. I don't recall if the guidebook had anything to say about this.

I agree completely. Wizards are so overpowered a regular victory with them isn't really worth all that much.
