Hi, i was wondering how much gold you have to give to a beggar to get a potion of booze, and if theres a limit to how many potions of booze a single beggar will give out. I also know that rings of the fish auto curse themselves, but do they curse you as well?(i mean as in do they curse you like drinking from a pool can) Asking because i was thinking of using them to go talk to blup's mom.

Far as I know, 50 gold will get you a potion of booze, and the ring of the fish does not curse you. I believe it merely gives you water breathing and can't be easily removed after putting on.

I think 45 gold works as well as 50.

I haven't ever recieved more than one per beggar. I lead them to the wilderness,
then give them 45 gold per chat. The booze is always cursed so it is probably
worth your time to get 4, then dip them in holy water if you have extra.

It appears to be somewhat random. And it also appears that giving multiple times does "add up" to the required amount.

One test char saw 31-37 when repeatedly paying to a beggar. (Only got one booze, but rest of time you get rumors).

My observed best way was giving first 30 gp, then 1gp till you get the "hails you" message.

Might be useful very early on, if you start with a wand. You get a pseudo-id of the booze too.

I give 40 gold. I'm a cheapskate ;)

I like to get one from each Beggar, then kill em so I don't try the same one, becuse I had thought that you can only get one from each. After I've collected a bunch, since they're cursed I give em all to Yggatz and usually end up with at least one decent potion.

A stack of ten cursed potions of booze doesn't bother me. They'll be fixed with my next blessed scroll of uncursing anyway.

Dude, who doesn't like booze?! It's a huge boon for several characters who rely on wands to do their magic.

I'm not really a wand kind of guy. Perhaps that's just lack of late-game experience talking though.

When your elven barbarian gets jumped by a lightning vortex or two, you will be glad that your wand of acid has more than 0 charges, and that's not even late game.

Wouldn't he be more glad to have a potion of invis from trading booze? :)

I have a question - can I get C precrown and then get N crowning? I haven`t done that before.

Yes, you can get precrowned from any god you want; it has no effect on a later crowning.

Speaking of newb questions, do merchants find more of the item type they start with? Say, will a potions merchant find more potions than a wands merchant, or is it just random like every other class?

I haven't noticed merchants being particularly more likely to find the item they specialize in. Merchants are somewhat significantly more likely to find shops than other players, however.

Another question; I might be missing something obvious, but if something seems to shrug off a bolt, does it do no damage, or just a little?

Sadly, none.

Ach. The castings I've wasted.
