0. No scumming.
1. One random character per contestant.
2. 2nd july start - Creator's Day.(turn your computer's clock back if you're late)

Sword Female Drakening Bard - latest ADOM-Sage.
Really good starting skills.

Gray pool on UD:3 - snakes, frog, ale, St training, -paralyzation.
Blood red pool on PC:4 - teleport control(WOOOHOOO - i've already gotten one wand of teleportation!), see invis, snakes, more snakes, St training, someone misnaming me, frog(indeed, two golden balls atm), vipers!, memories of youth.
D:1 to D:12 herbs, herbs, herbs. Ghost lord at first dwarven quest :(

Darkforge(including Kherab), Dwarven Graveyard and ToHK cleared. Blup satisfied. All Dwarven quests completed.
First Great Treasure grave - empreror Lich...
Darkforge pools - dooming only once, various resistance changes(some !ofInsight needed :)), various monsters, death ray resistance, +1 Pe, +1 St, -1 Le, -1 Dx, invisibility, lost see invisible, bulging cranium corruption.

ToEF cleared. Only 10 blessed spenseweed and 6 arrows of dragon slaying spent.
Water temple cleared. I'm heading straight to victory.
Ring shop - 2x slaying, elememtal mastery.

Casino shop: RoDS, Thunderstroke, various potions.

One thing that i didn't knew: there is a moloch deep inside greater giant vault.
Looks like i'm still just not experienced player after just a few months in ADoM.

EDIT: Haha, she's already dead. I almost always play a class that starts with healing, or give myself Candle otherwise, and that was very problematic for me. Early poison problems (falling in a pit, Dark Elven Warrior) proved to be the death of me. Funny note btw, I kicked in every door I found straight away, and did not generate a single door trap, except for the one time I decided to kick it at an angle. That one had a dropping door. Random, eh? I guess I shouldn't have tried to make an immediate beeline for the carpenter to try to get healing, but meh. It was funny anywho.

I got lucky :) The month was Candle, which is one of my favourite months for obvious reasons, and I rolled a male Hurthling Monk! Not a class I've ever played, but they share some of the awesomeness of beastfighters, so this should be fun. He was apparently seriously ill in his childhood.

I'll keep him strained and armed for a while first, he can start tearing monsters apart with his bare hands when that strength is up to par.

Started the game by getting the puppy quest, then going to Laweni-hotel. I immediately bit off more than I could chew and had to use up both my initial prayers when an assassin decided to poison me. Still, I lived, and went to the SMC. An undead tension room was generated next to the first stairs and I came close to death (2 HP). I found the downstairs, they were in an excellent position, but decided not to get the blanket because a cat was in the way.

Then it was time for the puppy cave. This went smoothly, the ants fell easily and I finally found enough loot to get burdened and switch to spear-and-shield combo for some strength training. There was 'imminent danger' on the second level, an ettin, which was no trouble at all. Lee is currently standing next to the cute dog, which was generated next to the up-stairs. Next up, clearing the vault and bringing it back to the tiny girl.

Well, I died.

The vault turned out to be mixed. It had a baby black dragon in it which almost killed me, twice, so I decided to leave and do the UD instead. Everything went fine, until I encountered a jelly vault. My rocks ran out, I stupidly took on a gelatinous blob in melee, it died and a gray ooze took its place.


Lee, the hurthling monk, was killed by a gray ooze.
He scored 14161 points and advanced to level 11.

I rolled a raven-born male human barbarian. Nothing too unusual for me, they're amongst my favourite classes though I practically never pick humans if get to choose. Oh, and a two-headed calf was born on the same day. I named him Conan, and chose long stride as first talent.

Yay, dead already, just had to happen I guess, was being so lucky. Went to SMC at lvl 1, found an altar, converted it to L and checked status of items. Found a club of devastation 5d6+6, pretty awesome. Got the blanket, decided to go down the UD. No herbs, no altars, no shops, a couple of pools, nothing very interesting. Didn't dare to check HMV shop though, not sure if I could take the mimic. Went back to the PC looking for some herbs, nothing there. So I went back to the SMC to use the altar. A moment later an out-of-sight dark sage took me from 84 to -11 hp in a single turn.

Generated a character born in the month of Salamander. Rolled a female Orcish Farmer.

Went for SMC to try and get blanket, almost died, ran away.
Completed VD, obtained healing.
Went for PC, river generated on PC:3.
Dove to I:9 and back to get enough pockets to pick and, with the help of Miser, barely got the 3.5k necessary for detect traps from master thief. In the process, blink dogs were found. Waited for them to summon help, and killed a bunch to get a corpse for TCtrl.

Ran into problems on D:9. Dwarftown was clearly on D:10 and there was a river on D:9. Not only that, the river was 5 spaces wide, and could only be crossed there. Desperate for literacy (being as it's crucial and all), it was crossed using 2 divine interventions.

Thundarr quest resulted in a Rust Monster. Wand shop appeared on D:12. A wand of digging was generated, and i grabbed a wand of trap creation (4 charges) as well. Back on D:9, used wands to make a teleport-bridge.

Headed back toward VD, used altar to get piety back to acceptable in case of emergency. PC to this point has been suffering some pretty bad luck with vorticies/breath attacks/fireball traps. Cloak of invisibility dropped in CoC, used that to go to SMC and find down stairs.

Used herbs to buff Wi/To/Dex. Killed Rust Monster, got literacy, second random quest was a ratling archer, easily finished. In prepping for Ogre cave/Arena, took a short trip to surface for Pyramid and Graveyard. PC level at this point is only 14, but with a crucial cloak of invisibility. Snuck into Pyramid, killed Rehetep, snuck out. Similarly, nothing in graveyard sees invisible except Nonnak and Griff, so it was easy. Finished off Ogre Cave. Finished off arena quest.

7LB on D:15! Fantastic. Dove for water temple at exp level 16.

I had to switch to Moon Sickle on Berserker to finish off the temple, grab my first orb. Heading back to terinyo now that i have 7LB to finish off PC, hopefully get swimming. Went to altar, crowned self and forgot to put on AMW before crowning. Got useless cold immunity, Skullcrusher.

7LB destroyed by failed teleport landing me next to an acid vortex. Cried. Felt like i lost the game.

ID dive really produced nothing except some extra gold and water. Headed back to D:12 shop, where a wand of cold finally was generated. Was able to do ToTHK this way. With a RotHK, patched together the best melt/burnproof set of gear i could and resulted in 50/31 DV/PV. Finished ToEF using up an enormous number of healing/scroll charging resources.

ACW dropped Executor, which is the first time i've seen him drop an artifact (aside from the orb of course).

Dug up all graves on the way to casino. Nothing.

Casino items were garbage. Artifact was Whirlwind, and only useful equipment out of it was a dragon scale mail and a ring of slaying. (Can't afford either yet, though). Still no 7LB.

Cat lord almost killed me. I forgot i had changed from AMW to a dragon scale mail, and he critical'd me for over 250 damage in one round of attacks. Getting off of the noteleport level was rough, but with a few divine interventions and a !oEH, it was done. Charged up a wand of teleportation, lured the cat lord into a room, teleported to the door, and locked him in.

Air temple was done without much trouble. Greater Giant Vault on D:42. Thank god. It contained 3 (whoa!) artifacts: thunderstroke (useless), long sting (useless), and robes of resistance. At least there's one decent artifact.

Earth temple, as usual, is the easiest of the temples. No equipment destruction, ASB typically very easy.

Greater Giant Vault again on D:45. This vault was the RNG giving back for all the crap it gave me during the whole game. Now i officially have no excuse to lose: Bracers of war, Ironfist, and Scorched Spear (not a bad artifact early game, but useless for me now). Also generated in the vault were TWO RoDS, one of which i used for blessed seven league bootss, the other i'm saving.

That last vault pushed this character over the brink. BDC was a breeze, took him out on Berserker. I've lost characters to mana temple before, so it's still dangerous. Lured Nuurag Vaarn into corridor. Shot him up to critically injured with sling bullets while on berserker to minimize stat drain. Healed when necessary, etc, then stepped in to finish up with executor.

Thought about going up to get some corruption removal, but the 2 SoCR i had was probably enough. Got to D:49 and realized i never got a PoU. Oh well. Doesn't matter. I messed up on D:50, accidentally opening the main room. I still tried to use the monster creation/doors ending, but i generated a named Great blue Wyrm on the square, was forced to waste time killing him, THEN generated a named great red Wyrm. Decided it was easier to just eliminate all sentinent creatures off the board. This PC took out balors/Fisty in melee without a problem. Returned to surface. Did unicorn quest to clear corruption, then left.

And I have rolled... a Book-born female human druid. Named her Yuria... She's a 29-year-old blonde apparently - a bit old for me, but I'll roll with it. Never played a druid seriously so this should be interesting (and likely short). Silfir, I'll be putting your guide to the test here... EDIT 1 (2/7/08 - 21:28):

Still alive! Cutpurse first kill, got pickpocketing, generated SMC at level 2, dove to PC6 to generate puppy, then dove to DD7 to generate druid. Will deal with both later... Cleared the upper levels of each dungeon, and found grey altar on PC3. Killed Hotzy and got to level 9. Rushed through SMC escaping barely to UD (got blanket too, woo). Rushed through those levels but food was a huge issue - ended up having to pray for satiation (and found a corpse a few steps later, grr). Mixed vault and gnoll vault yet to be tackled. Found large mithril shield and adamantium spear. Found herbs, including stable morgia patch, but the level is flooded with red worms. Also 2 altars and 2 pools. Sold junk at HMV and went to CoC for food, but D2 stairs are surrounded with water. Went and bought detect traps and killed Keethrax in melee (magic missile was taking too long - he kept healing). Got the druid rewards, which are bracers of toughness and some ring and some amulet. Could really do with the Frost Bolt to be honest... Current stats:

Weak and pathetic, with poor magic ability (I keep having to abuse Mana in tight spots because they have so little PP, and as you can imagine that ends up in a vicious circle) and far too slow at gaining weapon marks. I have found very few spellbooks, the only useful one being the glorious Darkness. Neutral animals are ANNOYING - especially since I can't effectively go for a precrown, and bloody worms are filling up my herb level. I saw a blink dog and it attacked a nearby monster and got killed before I could make it hostile! Still, doing okay for now - just need to get some more spells and build my toughness up more and I'll be rolling.

EDIT 2 (2/7/08 - 23:42):

Lured the vault denizens in the UD to the nearby altars and got me a precrown - Skullcrusher. Took a lot of patience but it should be worth it. Also found a tower crystal shield and some other okay gear. Still few spells though - only offensive spellbook left is magic missile. Going to try and reclaim the herb level and then maybe see about getting across that river in the CoC (got me a pick axe now, which might help).

EDIT 3 (4/7/08 - 00:08):

Got good stashes of all the nice herbs now, and stats close to max. Got to Dwarftown without incident, elder wants me to slay a big dog. Actually kinda troublesome since they all get themselves killed fighting monsters... Cleared pyramid and graveyard with ease - Skullcrusher all the way. Got some handy stuff from the graveyard, including frost bolt spellbook and ring of slaying. Really can't see anything stopping me now... Current stats:

Spent aaaages hunting for a blink dog in the puppy cavern. First one attacked a nearby monster and got itself killed (bloody druids...) but eventually I pissed one off and slaughtered its summons for 3 corpses - quite enough for me. Got the teleport wand and got the dwarf rewards, but haven't gone deeper than Dwarftown yet. Mystic gave me a bloody PoGA and 2 training potions. Cleared DarkForge with ease, netting me a good white dragon scale mail and Wyrmlance - hurrah, something to slay the ACW with. Bombed through the High Kings tomb without incident. Going to complete the dwarven elder quests then do some pool-sipping for the old man. Tower is going to be an absolute breeze by the time I get round to it. Status:

Shields are level 10, clubs level 9 and polearms level 6. Might train the last up before the ACW, but stun ray will probably make it safe regardless. Need some more fireproof equipment too.

EDIT 5 (5/7/08 - 16:23):

Just scummed DarkForge for an AoLS - was worried I wouldn't get one actually since there were very few pools generated. Lost a couple of points of dex and fire resistance (which is harder to acquire for bloody druids) and got a bit of aging, but worth it all of course. Now level 22, HP over 350 - I'm stupidly overpowered for this stage of the game.

EDIT 6 (5/7/08 - 19:45):

I saved Khelly, dove down to the wall of flames and cleared the Water Temple, then came back up for air and dropped into the Rift. Threat room of chaos knights yielded some nice armour, including empowered eternium plate mail. Threat room of giant slugs gave me acid immunity. Found me a red dragon corpse too, which is what I was most after. Not too many spellbooks of great use in the Library, but some decent xp at least. Almost got killed by an ancient white dragon actually - tried meleeing it with Skullcrusher and was brought down to 11 HP in one round (lucky it didn't hit more times in fact). Teleported away, healed, teleported back and one hit killed it with Wyrmlance. Tower was easy enough, though the ACW gave me some trouble before I stun rayed him. Wyrmlance made short work of him after that, and the rest of the placed was crushed or frozen. On my way out a fire giant dropped the ring of immunity - gee, thanks, just in time. Going to dive down to the casino and pick up the kitty ring now - really need to find a scroll of danger fast!

EDIT 7 (5/7/08 - 22:55):

Casino had nothing worth mentioning, but the kitty king was kind enouh to give me a nice ring. Cleared three lesser dragon vaults (2 blue, 1 red) and a greater vault of giants on D45. Got lots of goodies, and the latter contained BoW and black tome. A pit viper on the giant vault level dropped a scroll of danger - excellent... Killed the white unicorn but only got 3 PoGA from the black unicorn as reward. Fed the ratling - it's day 88 now, so just in time for the next Darknight. Not too many corruptions yet, with plenty of SoCR in my pack. Got the quickling tree requirements too. Will kill Keriax next then try and find a giant boar... Character is looking very solid now:

Assassinated Keriax with stun ray and Wyrmlance. Hunted down a giant boar with a knife of damnation (well, used death ray to actually kill it) and gave great pleasure to the old crone. Entered the quickling tree and devoured its denizens. Converted back to neutrality with a whip of slaughtering and got crowned with Nature's Friend and shock immunity (both useless - bloody druids...) Dove back down the CoC and cleared Air and Earth temples - both easy, even though Yuglash decided to summon balors to the party. Killed my first greater moloch on D47. Off to do blue dragon caves and mana temple. 11 corruptions now - must be more speedy.

And so ends the story of Conan, the barbarian. First I went and killed a beggar, generated the SMC, and then saved the carpenter. After that I decided to go through the Unremarkable dungeon. Everything was strolling nicely, until i sensed an imminent danger when I was on UD:4. I decided to turn back towards the downstairs which I had already found, but in that room a Werewolf lord was waiting for me. His wolves sprang out of nowhere and forced me into a corner. I fought the lesser wolves and werewolves valiantly, and cleared my way out of the corner. I started to run, trying to put as many wolves as possible between the lord and me, but soon he bypassed them with his amazing speed and then ripped me to pieces when my escape was blocked by wolves coming from the other end of the corridor.

Edit: was going good with herbs and potion shop and... and crash while dropping items. I will reload from backup but that killed half the fun.

Edit2: dealt in gut's terms with east river side. The only mdangerous moment was crossing river. I haven't miscalculated totally but... but that left me on 3hp from 200+.
Edit3: done with Tomb of High king, half darkforge (gave me wyrmlance), dwarven graveyard. Currently doing gremlin bomb.
Edit4: cleared air and earth temples and red dragon greater vault bellow earth temple. Skipped greater undead vault.

I wasn't playing ADOM for long! I went to PC, thinking, it was a VD... Then met a tension room and run to ID, saw a VD entrance end laughed. RNG was nice to give crude spear on first level. A poisonous one!
And a lawful altar on VD3! I'm so lucky!!! (But I begin to worry about RNG's retaliation later. Carpenter will kill me for sure :))

I was in PC:6 and got hit by lightning bolt coming from beyond my sight -> Down to 7 hp, when I was retreating a Revenant came out of blue and killed me with one blow.

Blob, the trollish thief, was killed by a revenant.

Not one of my favourite classes, but it could have been worse. Candle is very nice.

I have 18 HP and 6 PP (not enough for mind blast). Early death, here I come!

Well that didn't last long. I first cleared PC1 to gain a few levels and then decided to do the druid quest, since I didn't really need the healing skill. I got to the bottom level without much difficulty. Once there, I killed some monsters including a giant slug. Then a confused snake stumbled into me with his poisonous teeth. I went back up to heal. I figured it would wear off before killing me, so I just used first aid and waited. Then a hobgoblin chief and a corpse fiend showed up. I decided to fight the latter on berserk. With the natural berserker talent and the find weakness skill, I should be able to kill him quickly. No such luck. He hit me, which not only took me down to 1 HP, but also made me sick. I prayed for healing, but being poisoned and sick while fighting two enemies at once proved too much for my mindcrafter. It was a very stupid death, as I should have at least confused the hobgoblin chief (who in fact delivered the final blow). I guess not being used to mindcrafters clouded my judgement there for a moment. And checking my inventory showed that my one unidentified potion was cure poison.

Gnicotina, Dragon-born female gnomish archer

3 starting talents: Alert, Good Shot, Long Stride.

She started in the SMC, killed a kobold first, then several other creatures, got the blanket, a scythe, a spear and a large shield.
Then she visited the shop in the outlaw village to identify the items there. After leading the ratling trader to Terinyo she went to the ID for some melee training and looting. There she went down to level 3 and then returned to Terinyo.

New talents: Eagle-Eyed, Quick (had to outrun a cave lion).

She is now lvl 7 and planning to do the carpenter quest next.

Altar of Berwyn on VD3.
Tension room on VD4, kicked the booby-trapped door in. Bugbears and gremlins, Jharod the Healer among them. Luckily he was not standing behind the door when it exploded.
On VD5 found a large mithril shield.
VD6 tension room, mostly large gnolls with some lizard men and a kobold chieftain. Had to pray Berwyn for healing.
VD7 ice vortex and a flesh golem. Equipped two shields and a scale mail which turned out to be cursed. Managed to lead Yrrigs to Jharod.
On the way back to Terinyo ran out of food but survived. Emptied the Munxip?s store. Dropped some useless stuff in the outlaw village. Going to head for the CoC next.

I think I'm not going to cast too many spells for a while... :P

Current level is 46.

First I headed to clear the small cave and then headed to the puppy cave. So far I have found some herbs from PC:4 and a river plus green worm infestation in PC:5.
That worm infestation is going to kill me... better to leave it now. But at least I got literacy from a dark sage corpse! (though mana is still 1 and pp 0 :P).
Now village dungeon is finished and I got healing from Jharod.
Unremarkable dungeon is finished and the high mountain village had one ratling trader who's selling cooked lizards. Level is now 11 but still I haven't got any mana or pp.
And now I found an uncursed iron-shod quarterstaff of devastation (+3, 5d10+8) from somewhere in unremarkable dungeon or early levels of CoC.
...time passes
Now I'm at level 18 and just got crowned with fire immunity and got the skullcrusher as a crowning gift. I have cleared darkforge and visited dwarven graveyard. Also I think it's a bit too long time since I played ADOM last time... I just realized that I forgot to visit the pyramid :/
TotHK: done, ToEF: done, after the third attempt and a long fight with ACW. All pools are emptied and all graves in graveyard are dug out but still I haven't found an aols or a wish.
I passed Khelavaster without AoLS, cleared water temple, visited casino and found a greater vault with fire creatures one level below the casino. I think that there are no other artifacts than the ring of immunity, but it's still better than nothing.

Air and earth temple were both very easy. I found also another greater vault with fire creatures at D:45 and got long sting, crown of leadership and ironfist from there.
A few levels later I found a quite large room filled with ancient white dragons and found a wand of wishing with 3 charges there... First wishes in the game.
So far I have used 2 of them, 1 for scrolls of chaos resistance and another one on amulet of life saving.
I used 3rd wish for some more SoCRs (got again only 2).
Nuurag-vaarn were far too easy, I lost only a few appearance (stat drain) against him and not even a single hit point in a direct melee.
Now all orbs have been put in their places and I'm ready for the final challenge.

Okay, starting the game with Scorch the Dark Elven Wizard. She was born a Salamander. Started with three Talents. Took Potent Aura, Charged, and Strong Magic. An Heir Wand could be nice, but I never remember to use Wands. I'm pretty excited because the furthest I've ever gotten was with Wizards and Mancers.

Only 8 St is a bit painful since I do like early game melee to save my castings, but 19 Dx and 22 Ma will be nice. 102 Sp should also allow me to fry Hotz and his guards for some quick Exp. Darkness and Fire Bolt are my starting Books, plus I started with a couple Poison Cures.

Time to start, I guess.

Apparently, I'm supposed to post my character's exploits (or lack thereof) in this thread? The ride was over quite quickly:

Chatted up Guth'Alak and the tiny girl in Terinyo and bought some rations. Went to the outlaw town to peruse the black market, and saw a wand of cold. I proceeded to the SMC, intending to go down to the UD after finding the blanket.

Immediately next to the entrance was an uncursed stone spear of mayhem (+0, 3d8+6). Feeling a bit overconfident, I started plowing through every monster to appear with no problems. At level five, I found the blanket, and started making my way back to the down staircase (which was quite far away, being in the room next to the entrance). I gained level six, and then met up with a dark elven wizard and a horde of cave fishers and large spiders. I was poisoned, but managed to dispatch the wizard and spiders and made it through to the room with the down staircase with two-thirds of my hitpoints.

At this point, I made the fatal mistake and decided to go back to Terinyo to get some extra rations for the descent through the UD. In the room with the up staircase, I met a dark elven warrior who immediately took me down to 11 hitpoints. I used a prayer, getting back to roughly 55 hitpoints. A couple turns later, I was down to 30 hitpoints and the dark elf was critically wounded. I decided it would be best to try and kill him off as quick as possible, and then pray, but the next hit took me to -2 hitpoints. I was somewhat surprised, but such is the SMC.

This character likely would have gotten through the UD with ease. I had an 18/8 DV/PV, and had picked up a pair of boots of speed [+2, +0] (+8 spd) from a drop just before meeting the dark elven warrior. Unfortunately, I hadn't yet put them on; the dark elf appeared around the corner as I was looting the corpse, and I didn't want to waste the time. If I'd known they were +8 speed, I likely would have taken the time to put them on.

Well I have rolled a femme farmer fatale,
of the Book-born hobbit variety.

Not exactly the kick-ass C/R combo I was hoping for.
I shall hope to survive as far as the black market,
where I intend to go rock shopping. If the black
market fails to produce any killer rocks, I shall
have to make do with the sickle. sigh.

I do have an entire point of PV though, from a rather
fetching hood.

I made it out - reload after work, currently poisoned and HP
at 50 &#37; ... after internal debate about where to garden
(spense or curia, so many herbs to choose from, not much
space not infested with spiders/ants/random tension mobs)
made a curia/aluarnia herb square on PC2, and thus rocked
my way to stairs. Was glad I went for poison specific herbs
instead of generic healing in the end - there were elven
warriors around as well as loads of spiders.

Found puppy corpse, gave it to t and dived
through UD - nothing exciting at all apart from two poorly
placed C altars which I didn't want to use, as I tend to
believe hobbits should stay L if possible - can you imagine
Samwise Gangee's future wife becoming chaotic? Did finally
find a 3+1 shield though - a lot better than nothing.

Head to CoC, get my poor gear pawned by a R, make it through
the big room (has bees!), I have several herb levels, but not
many stable patches, arrive 2 levels below big room, hear wind,
and feel tension. Tiptoe around, but meet cat, and end up getting
blocked between cat and what turns out to be room full of ice
vertices - manage to close door to avoid severe frosting,
but have to kill the cat, oh well.
Still alive at least.

Kill goblin for Thrundar, and get pre-crowned in DT via money,
stoma, and cooked bee-flesh. Bloody hammer of the gods, but only
have one stoma square in big room at moment, so not sure about
going for a second precrown - the limits of my patience, let me show
them to you.

Will see how tomorrow's play goes - need to train bows, and attempt
fletchery on some logs before the pyramid, in hope of some undead ammo,
otherwise will have to pass the AF/DH, to obtain fireballs. Not easy
task with Rosie's current lameness.

Farmers eh? Tsk.

Well, my Gnomish thief is still alive. Now lv 9, having killed Kranach, got healing, and about to embark on the puppy quest. Had to pray 2 times already, but still managing to have a pretty good game. Long bow + lots of arrows are getting the bow skill nicely trained, have teleportation control from a blink dog, stole a few nice amulets and got heaps of gold. Just hoping for a decent vault in the puppy cave now, and hopefully an altar so I can begin to make my god love me again.

I've been lurking around this forum for a little while, but I thought I'd delurk for Creator's Day... I started this character then, but I forgot to post character details at the time and didn't play it much until today, so this will be a lot at once.

I had an extremely lucky character roll: female Raven-born orc priest. I didn't write these down at the time, but the starting stats were:

St:20 Le:12 Wi:17 Dx:14 To:16 Ch:9 Ap: 6 Ma:11 Pe:11

Having St at 20 + good starting equipment meant that the early game was easy enough. Spellcasting wasn't all that great at first because of the low Le and Ma, but my starting spellbook was Know Alignment, so it didn't really matter.

My first kill was a bandit. I then dove through the UD, DD (except for the last level because I didn't want to generate the torc until after precrownings), and PC. The only notable finds were 7LB and a spellbook of Freezing Fury, both in the UD. I still hadn't found any herbs, so I went to the big room, which was pacified using two door creation wands. An hour or two later, I had much higher stats and was triple (!) precrowned with the scorched spear, Executor, and the robes of resistance.

At about this point I decided to go for a UCG ending, since things were going so well and I've already done a ULE and UNE. Also, a random encounter with a giant boar had already yielded a boar skull!

Thrundarr asked me to kill an owlbear, which wasn't easy to do immediately. So instead I did pyramid (not bothering to clean out the top level completely because there was a Dorn Beast and I didn't have free action yet), dwarven graveyard, Darkforge (no items of use, but not difficult using Executor), and finally ToHK (hanging around in the cavernous levels for a while until an owlbear was generated). I discovered that the early-mid game is really very easy with PV > 40...

Along the way I picked up a scroll of danger and wand of monster creation, and after finishing Thrundarr's quests I remembered that I could go kill Keethrax for another artifact and a PoCC. I did so, and then stopped for the time being after getting the medal.

I drained nine pools in search of a wish, and I was working on the tenth. This gave me many great intrinsics; however, it also aged me three times, leading to death. Of course I should have stopped after the first or second aging (which brought me to very old) and searched for potions of youth in the ID or something, but I wanted to see whether a wish or death would come first...

New character. I feel bad. Random gave me M Orc Assassin, born in Candle. I'm sure I'll manage to die anyway.

First kill: Bandit
SMc: Half the damn doors have explosive traps, I brave one for the blanket though and lose my shield and cloak. Switch from axe to spear asap.

VD: lawful altar on level 1. I hit neutral, then convert altar to N. There's also a tension room next to the altar. Looks like early precrown for me. I end up with Wyrmlance, which is quite decent.

SMC:Eat a blink dog on the way in. Attempt to melee a ghul on the way to downstairs, get paralyzed...

Edit: Yep. Just goes to show all the advantages in the world can't overcome the stupidity of melee'ing a ghul without para resistance.

chose a Beastfighter for this contest because I had never played one before.

Sorry, but no choosing allowed. Please reset your clock and generate a completely random character and use that as your entrant. Good luck with your Beastfighter though - Candle helps a lot, and you have some nice equipment finds. SLBs will make the forest a little easier - it's best to go through with 2 shields and not attack anything. Invis would also be a big aid.

I actually rolled up a bunch of characters to play at a later date (I could reset my clock and start with luck/fate whenever I wanted, but that would be cheating), for the starting luck, and decided to use the beastfighter. I'll start a new completely random character though, hope he doesn't suck!

I know we're supposed to restrict ourselves to one post, but others haven't and I don't think there are so many entrants that we're going to get crazy numbers of messages.

Anyway, my High Elven archer (candle) is still alive, but barely. I started with two talents and took alert and good shot. Went to Terinyo and took the healer quest, then proceeded to the outlaw town for an easy first kill and a look at the shop. Tagged an outlaw and he dropped a cloak of defence... nice! The healer quest was easy, dropping a hand axe of mayhem (3d6+6) on the first level and an aligned altar on the second to id it. Succored the carpenter, took healing, and then off to the CoC.

CoC had a ton of altars for me... D2, D4, & D8. I had gone the S route inadvertently and gotten sick somewhere, usually not a big problem but a pair of werewolf lords ambushed me and brought me down to 7hp. Whoa... wolves everyone and the stairs looking far away. Finally switched to the new cursed xbow i found since I was out of arrows and cleared a safe path to the exit. Lots of resting later I felt confident enough to clear them out along with their doppleganger lord buddies.

That done I was at level 10 and finally made it to Dwarftown on D11. First quest was a giant centipede... no problem. Unfortunately he didn't want to show up, so I went up and down the CoC and on the real D2 found a vault of goblins. I thought I'd try a precrown for once... always tricky with neutral altars for me since I usually end up accidentally getting precrowned. Many patient sacs later I was absolutely close, so a quick ratling trader assassination took me to N- and I received Purifier. Not bad since my rusted axe had literally just cracked in a water trap.

Next quest, animated forest. I was at level 13 with 101 hp and 38 dv (found a tower mithril shield and an amulet of defence +4), should be doable...

Unfortunately, they're massacring me. I've had to pray 3 times (no rumbles yet but I can't keep this up forever) and I'm surrounded by hostiles. Not sure what to do since if I leave cowardly tactics they'll crush me, but I can't actually hurt them right now. Any advice out there? If not, then I'm afraid a few short turns later this is going to be all over for poor Mr. Special.

neither Mana temple nor D50 proved to be a a challenge. Since Dalwyn got both light corruptions i cleared library as well.

As final challenge (or rather stupidity) i decided to wish for a emperor moloch in small cave.

Well, i thought 800+ hp are good enough for one round against greater moloch in melee (take a look at missile slot). Appeared i was wrong.

Death by dwarven halls. No regrets - no way Rosie would have survived the animated forest - having
already suffered at the hands of a rust monster, Rosie had her equipment raped by an on-route tension
room full of eyes of destruction two floors below dwarf town - she didn't even have a 2nd shield, and the
best spear she had was 1d8. Sad.

I could have / should have turned back there and then, gone to the pyramid to get the pickaxe
and climbing set, farmed some more rocks on CoC 1, and returned to top level of pyramid,
whilst planning just to see what random monsters were generated, and just running to the downstairs
never to return again if it looked too hairy, but you know how it is - after a while, when a PC still
sucks, you just loose heart sometimes, and so it was I decided the dwarven halls gauntlet would
either make or break Rosie...

In the end, instead of praying again, Rosie drank a status-unknown extra healing potion whilst running
from the Fire Giant - it only gave her about 10HP, so I guess
it was cursed, and of course, next turn the big guy hit her for good. oh well. C'est la mort.

Next time I roll a hobbit farmer, if I find 10 rocks before level 6, I will definitely try the Kranach quest - this
time round, I skipped it cause what with it being a challenge game and all, I wanted to play safe, but it took me
ages to find my first bow, which limited my options somewhat. Ah well.

I think my next hobbit will also not give a shit about staying Lawful. Sod roleplaying.

Born in month of the Wand.

Randomly, I got male, hurthling, archer.

2 talents. I decide to go with 'long stride' and 'quick'.

Named him Tas.

Low St, but good To (16). Learning 7, so I am illiterate.

Tas started with a sling and rocks equipped, but of course the "barehanded" rock-throwing would do a lot more damage than using a sling. No armor giving PV, so I have 19/0 DV/PV. About 20 rocks. This could be a great character, but could also die horribly very fast. I enter village, and get quests. I went with carpenter quest for healing. Since I am L, I took the shiriff along to the bandit village. First kill bandit with thrown rock.

Head to SMC, just to take a quick look. On the way ambushed by many jackals, but manage to outrun them. Enter SMC. No monsters, decide to take a look. But suddenly, having gone 6 steps, a stone block hits my head. R.I.P.

No wait, I am alive. Only did 9 damamge. Thank you, Creator! Nice. I pick up the rocks dropped and scan a little more. Kill orc and rat for level 2. Stealth [sic], alertness and food preservation. Leave the SMC, nothing much found. Next I encounter a group of roving raiders. Hmmmmmmmm. I have good killing power, but they use missiles. I decide to evade, succeed and enter village dungeon.

Level 3: Archery, first aid, dodge. 'Very quick' talent.
Level 4: Alertness, archery and dodge. I find a tension room on VD:1, but am terribly weak in melee, so I have to use rocks on most enemies.
Level 5: Archery x2 takes it to 100. Food preservation.
Pick up corpses to make me strained, to train ST.

Enter VD:2. And worry that I still am 0 PV. Milk some rockthrowers, and notice that quite a few of the rocks just pass right by me. Finally can upgrade my starting dagger to a spear, due to a spear trap.
Walk around a bit, when I encounter pit vipers! Oh no. Get hit once, but manage to avoid the rest. I run towards the downstairs. I get
Level 6: First aid x 3 by killing a viper in my way. Also 'greated lightning' talent

VD:3
Just run through one section of this till I see stairs.

VD:4
I am about to look up the healer when poison is gone from my system. Whew. Down to 28(54) HPs. I decide to get healed, and then proceed with getting healing. I am very fast now, so will outrun the carpenter. Only worry is getting hit when I drag him up the stairs. Enter corruption trap, but decide to resist temptation to try for a beneficial corruption now. Finally find a metal girdle, for my first point of PV. I find healer, get healed. 40 steps later I find another stone block trap. 25 damage this time. I get healed again (no problem using up heals, 7 heals is always enough). I am training up slings now.
Level 7: Alertness, dodge x2.

Back to VD:3
Meet a cat, so I run back down.

VD:5/VD:6
Nothing much.

VD:7
Level 8: Alertness, concentration x2. Find the purple t(Yrrigs picks up leather armor, Yrrigs equips the leather armor...Ooo I want that), take him back up to level 4. I had before this un-burdened myself. Went back down to get my stuff, nearly died to a doppleganger, which I left on VD:6. I have some basic items covered now (screenshot should follow).


VD:5
I had bypassed this, now I explored. Saw a blink dog, and decided to take it on. Fired a rock at some point past it, "accidently" hit it. I died from blood loss next round, but happily dropped a corpse. Nice.
Level 9: Healing x3 (up to 45). 'Good shot' talent. Head back out.

Mission 1 is now accomplished. I obtained "healing" skill, and have basic item needs covered.

I fool around in bandit village a bit, buy some red gloves with 1 PV, sell some useless spears, let sheriff kill some assassins and then drag him back to terinyo.

Next goals:
- Get literacy.
- Get more PV (only 5 so far).
- Get poison resistance.

I head to the PC.

PC:1
Stash hatchet and bridge building tome here. Find a pool, do not drink. I then get +1 strength and -1 Dex. Guess strained! is not too good. Wellwell. Finally find a bow, start using it.

PC:2
Find downstairs quickly, descend. Did not see ants, meaning they should dig out some for me. Rocks and ore.

PC:3
Level 10: Healing x3.

PC:4
Tension + pious aura. Hmmmmm. It's chaotic. I first sac 5 orc corpses, it turns neutral. I then want to cook. But I also take off my items. Smart. Necromancer, ghul, paralyzed, dead. Stupid, I first just wanted to sac 2 uncooked corpses, then I decided to cook them but forgot to re-attach my clothes. Very weedy move.

Tas. L10 hurthling archer. (M), 12587 xps. 6955 turns. Died on 7/7/2008. He was killed by a kobold zombie [after being paralyzed by ghul] on level 4 of a dangerous cave at the Drakalor Pass.
