Aiming for a melee only Wizard (grey elven), the most fragile character i could think of. Scrolls and Potions are permitted, but wands are NOT permitted.

Played it out carefully early game, did pretty well. Decided to chance DH, packing a scroll of teleport. Unfortunately, got into trouble, teleported, stuck between two monsters I could not hurt. No ways out, death imminent, prayed and used the wand of fireballs in inventory. I shouldn't have even carried it around if i wasn't intending to cheat on my restriction, but breaking it helped salvage the character at least.

Ended up "archmaging" this character. I changed it to quotes because theoretically, the current state of the character can only book-cast wish on Silvernight and not the rest of the time. Instead of wishing for power 300x and getting to the PP necessary, I decided to use it to feed a Ring wish cycle, which i'm convinced is indefinite in my situation given no gigantic variance in ring dips (such as burning through 90+ PoEx or something).

So you zapped a wand, and turned your anti-mage into an archmage.... thats a powerful wand indeed :)

An archmage is 84k turns is extremely impressive I must say. What method did you use to get to the wish-casting stage? Surprised you got so few points though.

You sound pretty much like beginner here again...

"Ohh I decided to play one melee wizard for fun and it just happened to become an archmage."

Honestly, how many times you have won the game? Or should I say how many times you have'nt.

A few more details about this game:
(Note: Casino Gold was used in this game. I stopped at nothing after i failed the restriction.)

I think Archmage is actually the wrong term for this PC. She is NOT technically an archmage, I did not prepare her to book cast wish indefinitely. (Not enough PP after drains). Likewise, i deliberately did not wish for 'power' the second i could get wishes going, and instead just chose to boost the things that would be boosted once the limitless wishes were generated anyway and/or restock PoEx. The result turned out exactly the same.

Indeed, i stated Archmage because she easily had the capability to become an archmage with no failure, given that I had a positively enormous pile of wands ready to be mana battery'd. This was actually my original plan.

I wanted to avoid recharging pages of wands individually, not to mention the action of casting wish takes a significant amount of in-game time, and I was curious if another method would work.

I used the ability to book cast wish to feed the engine when it ran out of PoEx due to a unlucky dip streak. This is further augmented by the presence of a potion shop, which supplies plenty of water, and the occasional PoEx.

L+/Silvernight/-20%pp Room/ego (of power) equipment/book caster talents.
Helping out with stat drains when necessary were potions of boost mana/to, ToTRR, mana orb, etc, though if the mana/To stat were drained sufficiently, it wouldn't be possible to book cast any longer.

However, this engine lasted remarkably long. The ring engine broke a few times, and I used the book cast method to restock PoEx, get the engine moving again, then rewish the drained stats up. Due to casino gold abuse, not much had to be wished up in terms of stats, and maintaining high piety was simple. All in all, very lucky dips. I noticed 3 separate instances in particular where RoDS were generated in <10 dips, with the longest one consuming 53 PoEx, with the vast majority falling into the 20-30 range, which is better than usual.

Actually, when silvernight ran out, PC was no longer able to book cast Wish at all. The option to absorb all the wands was always there, but it was unnecessary. The ring wish engine held itself up, and in the end i decided to even read the wish book a few times in the rich flavor room. It didn't disappear, and those could be casted at any time, at 2400pp a pop with no HP drain at all, in case of PoEx emergency I suppose.

In all respects this was a very "quick" archmage game, but it didn't seem so to me. I must have wished hundreds upon hundreds of RoDS away, and while each only technically consumes a single game turn, it was extremely tedious to continually type.

The turn counter was deliberately kept to as low as possible. PC rarely moved if she could help it, opting to magic map and then teleport to the stairs if available. Thanks to high Le due to Garth's Cheating Hall, the 3 books of teleport found throughout the game was enough to literally replace movement. PC was NOT precrowned, which often consumes thousands and thousands of turns in the early game if no source of easily harvestable stomafillia is found. Likewise, crowning was as easy as saccing a huge pile of gold and praying. Wizards also move quickly in general: a greater fire vault was cleared a minute using teleportation and a High Wi Ice Ball.

Other things:

Alignment change to L+ at late stages was done using scroll of familiar summoning, cure critical, and the ToEF. Very easy, very quick.
Calm monster was by far the most useful spell in the essential stages of the game, as it saved the character several times, and made RotMC an easy grab.

Also, another word for how ESSENTIAL treasure hunter is, to an archmage in particular. I simply played as I would approach an ultra ending and I was ready for an ultra ending at something around 60k turns (this is a guesstimate, i never play with the turn counter on). I had stockpiled 17 potions of exchange from shops/casino/drops, had a RoDS dropped in CoC to boot, and plenty, plenty of water. Most importantly, I had an enormous stash of crap rings, some stacked to 11-12 such as stun resistance.

I'm not .. sure what that means? Maybe i'm missing some sarcasm here or something. I'll just answer the last two questions:

My win rate in this game is ... low. I know i only posted 2 deaths, but those were particularly late in the game, and disappointing to lose characters on MT and D50.

This is only my 6th win total, in about 6 years of playing. Non save-scummed, that is. When i first started i thought save scumming was how it was supposed to work, and that the game was broken or something as i couldn't return to my savegame files after i died.

I don't think Archmage really means anything, and far less than winning with a melee wizard would have. Wizards are guaranteed access to the wish book, the mana battery corruption, casino gold, a recharge skill, and probably tons of wands. Close the gate, and you have unlimited time with no corruption to boot. Just don't execute yourself with a magic missile and sooner or later you can have an archmage.

I posted this "archmage" because I liked her. Using the book casted wish to feed a ring engine is something I tried to do a little differently, and I kind of like it better. The wishes that you do utilize come instantly and incur no stat drain. My impression is that traditional archmages sit on 10k pp, which can cast you wish with no HP drain, and source their wishes directly from there.
