Finally won without savescumming! was damn hard, but i finally did it =D

This char was really annoying at the start. I had decided that I would use ANY tactics except for savescumming for my first win. Since i LOVE carrying oodles of stuff around, I usually only started characters that had strength of atlas in the beginning. This particular character wasn't one of them. I didn't get strength of atlas until late in the midgame, so i was pretty frustrated for a while.

However, after finding strength of atlas, things started to go a little better. The tower of flames was a little annoying, simply because I didnt realize you couldnt sacrifice the ACW *grumble*. Found some nice stuff in the casino, and went deeper. On D38 i found a greater vault with ogre lords and giants of all sorts. That netted me a WoW with 5 charges and whirlwind. overall, very fun, considering the WoW was the first time I had ever gotten a wish item while not savescumming. I used all but 1 charges before winning. I wished for SLBs, acid ball (forgot to get the spellbook before attacking the chaos archmage), an amulet of death ray resistance(i missed the pyramid, so no ancient mummy wrapping), and SoCRs(I didnt save khelly, found an amulet of lifesaving a couple levels down *grumble*). Snake from beyond, yulgash and ASB were all ridiculously easy. Chaos archmage was easy with the door+acid ball method. D50 was a BREEZE, i didnt have any trouble closing the gate at all. I used the wand of destruction method.

Nicely done.

I think the wizard quota for first wins must be about 50% or something, and far outscore all other classes. That's because players that have garnered enough experience to fare well in the early game will generally encounter a lot of trouble with the mid and late game due to inexperience there, and wizards tend to really soar off once they hit the midgame. ("Shit, I've never seen this monster before, I wonder if something out of my bottomless repertoire of vast arcane powers will kill it - Yay, it worked!")

Myself I scored my first win with a high elven archer, another piss-easy r/c combo, but I've had a gray elven wizard get four orbs in a past playthrough. (He is STILL the only of my guys to ever kill, or for that matter, even encounter, a ki-rin).
