Items with 0 attributes

I have a question regarding low level items in ADOM...

Is there any benefit to items with all zeros for their modifiers? If you start off with a pair of [0, 0] sandals should they just be discarded to save on weight or are there side benefits that are not stated?

They're mostly useless. However, they can reduce equipment destruction of your good stuff. When hit by a lightning vortex it might fry those sandals instead of your SLBs for instance. For that reason people tend to put loads of useless junk in their pack when diving into the Rift.

Also, being burdened or above can train your strength at low levels. I usually prefer to carry rations for weight though.

I'm aware of using 'useless' stuff as destruction fodder, just wanted to see if it had any practical worn use.
