I did it. I finally did it. After playing ADOM on and off for around 5 years now, I have achieved my first victory! The part of this victory that makes me the proudest however, is it was done with absolutely no scumming. I didn't even enter the ID once, and while I made backup saves I only had to load one once when the game crashed.

EDIT: Some final thoughts:

I was surprised by how little a problem corruption was. I didn't have to use the cleansing from the Unicorn at all, and as you can see in the post below, I still have 7 SoCR left over(I got 6 from Khelevaster, 4 from the Dwarven Mystic, 1 from the HMV room and 3 from the Bug Temple, so I found 14 total in-game). I also had something like 12 PoCC. Also, after the ToEF the game became immensely easy. I'm not sure if I just had a run of good luck or if it normally is that easy, but as this was my first character to get past the ToEF I don't know for sure. Everything after the ToEF just breezed by. I was also surprised by how much I was meleeing and using my xbow as a magic caster. The spells I had were really, really useful in vaults, the elemental temples, the bug-infested temple and D:50, but aside from monsters who had certain elemental weaknesses I rarely used spells in normal dungeon levels.

Congratulations! I'm glad to hear that you managed to pull it off.

Corruption normally isn't that much of a problem unless you hit day 90 really early and waste a lot of time on the lower levels of the CoC (or are playing for an ultra). Or if you go scumming the ID for a long time or something, I guess. In a regular win, there's generally more than enough SoCR/PoCC to get you through.

The post-ToEF game tends to be easier than pre-ToEF. By that point, your character should be well-provisioned enough that you should be able to survive anything except a really stupid mistake. More to the point, in the endgame, your character is often strong enough that if you make a stupid mistake, it's less likely that your character will die immediately afterwards.

I'm impressed that you managed to get through using almost exclusively staves for a melee weapon. I don't know too many people who use them regularly if they can avoid it.

From the way you were talking about how this game went, can I suggest an archer for your next attempt? If you like missile weapons, archers are absolute gods.

A little over 5 years if I remember correctly. I remember the phrase that got me playing the game was when one of my friends told be the monster description for a grey ooze. I laughed so hard at that I had to see what the rest of the game was like.

As far as being an archer, it's not so much ranged attacks that I enjoy as much as the sheer efficiency of slaying ammo. If melee slayers were more readily available(or better yet, slaying spells) I would probably use those much more.
