I couldn`t drop anything that is not food because it is a shop and was overburdened because of starvation. and couldn`t pay to shopkeeper because he was 2 steps away of me..
And I couldn`t eat from the ground because I didn`t pay for it.
Stupid death.. Cruel Munxip..

These things happen... better luck next time?

It takes time for shops to restock. I seem to have better luck with shops restocking if I buy every item in the shop, but this is not always an option.

Had this happen with a human archer...he actually survived the village dungeon, but ran out of food on the way back up. By the time I made it back to the store I was starving, my strength had gone from 14 to 7 and I was overburdened!. No food near the shopkeeper either, and my god ignored me...

Did you have a potion? Any one? :(

In any case where it's this close you HAVE to remember potions. They give 20 satiation and will give you your stats back plus a few turns.

Herbs give 20. Potions give 100. You could have tried throwing some of your items through the door, if desperate and close enough?

As for the time it takes for a shop to restock... It doesnt take time, but luck! Reloading a savefile gave some drastic results... sometimes the shop would restock in 2000 turns, and sometimes it would restock within only 50. For the restock to happen, you should stand 1-2 squares outside the shop. Then you can just watch for new items. Like that kid who waited for a Nintendo to be stocked, and he had to wait about two weeks in front of the shop, but decided to freeze himself instead, so that the waiting seems easier to him.

I assume that shopkeepers have a maximum number of items that they can stock. That probably includes the wares that you sell to them. I didnt bother with researching, but my estimate is that they can stock up about 150% of their shop size in squares. Or 100%, but counting walls... remember that walls are considered to be a part of the shop too. I estimate that their stock size is related to the shop size, because no matter how small or a big (as big as casino) shop, if you stuff all the items in a corner and wait for the restock, the shopkeeped only restocks about half of his shop and then stops completely.

A spoiler regarding shop restocks.

If you buy everything, the shopkeeper does a complete restock.

That's probably because you dropped them next to him. You have to put them in a corner.

It doesnt matter where you put them. As I said, the number of items that a shopkeeper can stock is likely relative to his shop size. If you buy 5 items from him, you'll be freeing up some of his room, allowing him to stock another 5 items. If you buy all from him, he will also restock all.

I believe that when you buy things, the shopkeeper will restart restocking

Not what I meant. I mean dude, I know how it works. =P But he said he got the 'shopkeeper repositions some items' message. One reason that occurs, which would prevent a restock, is if the shopkeeper moves over the pile of stuff. Then he just spreads the items out again.

I'm confused. Maybe I read wrong. Did Boris mix up repositioning with restocking? If so, I'm sorry. Your first response to him could be perceived ambigously.
P.S. A dude? Where?

I think he did... not sure. Anyway, it's not important. Um... the dude is in that bowling alley, I think.

You could have tried equipping heavy items (armor, weapons, books) into your missle slot, and throwing them. As long as they don't hit the shopkeeper, it's completely fine to throw them around, to my knowledge. You can also pick them up later, after you've fed yourself.

Speaking of dropping things in shops, I had a rating warlord disarm me in a shop once, and the shopkeeper boomed "THANK YOU!" and my former weapon became part of his stock. I would have had to pay the shopkeeper to get it back.

That is ironic, but how did it happen? You were strained! when you came in, and you had some si's?

Starving state reduces strength, so he could move while hungry! until he got to starving.

Imagine that in a real life situation. Your at a local bakery, with food on the shelves, and the owner won't allow you to pick up the food without paying him. You have so much stuff on you that you can't move, and you are about to die, but he doesn't allow you to drop anything. Munxip should get a big chaotic boost for that.
