I had finished this game the easier way before so now i thought it would be time to go for the ultimate. Started out an Human Archer. Went straight to kill a mugger. then headed out to get the tedious starting levels. Got really lucky right in the start with getting an RoDS and wishing for AoLS (this was actually the time i really started to get my hopes high). Found a nice patch of herbs and 7lb in CoC. Killed Keriax and did the Gaab'Baay's quest at early levels so i wouldn't have hard time with aligment change. Got crowned and received Whirlwind (never used it though).

ToEF was ridicilously easy, but strangely there was Frost giant Jarl in ToEF which dropped "Thunderstroke" (never used this one either). Water dragon's lair didn't have anything interesting but i did receive "Rune Covered Trident" early on thanks to Raven birthsign. With these at hand i descended down the CoC, cleared pyramid and the graveyard, saved Khelly. Got to Casino and found "Preserver" in the shop. Headed down with just one thing in my mind, Ring of The Master Cat and from this on i was practically unbeatable. Stumbled on a greater vault of undeads which i did't bother to clear. Later on i saw that there was "Skullcrusher" and Robes of Resistance there. After clearing the air temple i found another greater vault with ogres and giants, this one i actually cleared and hit the jackpot with getting Bracers of War, Crown of Leadership and 2 RoDS.

At Srraxxarrakex i was getting really bored and just rushed through it killed it with dragon slaying arrows and headed up to get the TotRR quests. Filk was as i had planned on the first level and conveniently in the first room too. Next step was ofcourse the Emperor Moloch which didn't put up much of an fight at this point (gotta love those arrows of -Insert monster- slaying.

Picked up the Medal and Crown of Chaos which i had stashed at the old Barbarian's Glade and headed down used the Potion of Uselessness in D:49 and received Staff of the Wanderer (used this to move in there too). D:50 and it was time to finish this. checked for the corruption and the Chaos artifacts and teleported right to the portal room. Had the Invisibility instrict don't know how actually, maybe from a pool but i didn't notice it when but anyway the ghosts just stood there like the idiots they are. Right as Fisty moved from the portal i used teleport and went in to get Andor. Immediately after getting rid of the Crown and Medal and reading the SoCR i had i used the two RoDS i had been saving just for this and wished for speed lots of speed. Turned out that i didn't even need the speed with Andor just pitifully trying to shoot some magic at me and doing nothing. He only confused me once and i just kept hitting him with Arrows of Demon Slaying and soon he was done for and i was done. Felt awesome to see the victory text even though i knew beforehand that i'm gonna make it. There's just some magic in that first time

The things I use too much ; )

Congrats on the ultra win!

I love finding ice monsters in the ToEF's, I once had
dragons, which was hilarious.

>i didn't even need the speed with Andor just pitifully

I see these words all too often to describe Andy. He's
supposed to be the most difficult of all bosses, yet
it just doesn't play out that way. The background
corruption and summoned monsters are bigger threats
than him. Still, ultras in ADOM are one of the most
difficult roguelike achievements, if for no other reason
than the luck it takes to fend off crashes long enough
to get one : )

That's what backups are for. Though I've found it can sometimes be hard to remember if you're spending a lot of time on your game, that is, really grindy/scummy tactics. One time I lost three days worth of play due to the combo of infrequent backups plus a segfault (which I actually seem to get pretty rarely compared to some other players).

Once on rgra someone straight-facedly stated the opinion that deaths by game crash should not be fought against (i.e. no backups) and should be accepted as part of the game. Needlessly to say I was like what. the. fffffff...
