First win: Elle, Grey Elf Wizard

Well, after almost 2 decades of playing this game off an on, I've finally snuck in a victory. I suspected this was going to be a good run early on when I dove straight into the UD, found the stairs and a kick-ass medium crystal shield. Fairly early on I also found an adamantium spear which I used for the rest of the game. I made the choice to only try for a normal ending, but about halfway through the run I started to wonder if maybe I should have tried for more since this character was doing so well. Oh, well. Still happy :)

I had one particularly careless moment where I found a mixed tension room containing an Ancient Red Dragon. I had it on the run and had been coasting for a while, so I followed it into the room hoping to get off a good ball spell and kill most of the enemies, only to have it turn around and crit and kill me. When I heard the death music I about shit myself, but I happened to be wearing the one and only AoLS I found on this run, so I stood up, teleported myself right out of there and played much more carefully until the end.

I opted for the door + monster summoning strategy on D50, because I happened to have kept the wand of battle bunny summoning and thought it would be funny. Ultimately, closing the gate didn't give me that much trouble since I knew I needed to hold nothing back and had accumulated quite the collection of handy healing potions and quarrels of slaying for the Balors. Thunderstroke and Burning Hands made short work of nearly everything else.
