Girdle of weight actually weighs 360s when equipped. Found this out when someone spouted some IGB garbage at me about girdle of weight supposedly making your armour double in weight. Was nonsense of course (any of us would have noticed that - Pavel was too dumb to interpret code properly and too dumb to do real testing - this is why I don't use IGB). Anyway, always thought they were a waste of space - now I know they're much worse!

Heh, silly me was thinking it was an additional 320s on top of the 40s, but of course the 40s is already there when it's in my pack. And I had wondered why it was such an uneven number... Cheers for clearing that up, Soirana.
Okay, something that's been bugging me - under what circumstances do you or do you not get Rolf's Saviour from the ancient dwarf?
On my max artifacts man I wanted as many arts as possible, but even as an L character did not get the dwarven shield. However numerous testing by me since with different r/c combos and levels of L and piety has *always* resulted in me getting in me getting the shield. Why didn't my challenge game? Anyone else failed to get this artifacts with an L character?
I think I've seen it once in about 10 years. Numerous times have been L, and never seen the blasted shield.
Which offends me, since my name is Rolf after all. You'd think the game would recognise this and be generous.

I had thought myself before that attacks doubled. -3 DV is interesting, though not particularly helpful.
Resulting from IRC chat today riktikticheck revealed some interesting stuff about a special "Starved" status after you eat 10-20 stomacemptia. It's below starving, but not dead, and you can continue on without food. Some sort of weird negative satiation level. You can go further into the "starved" zone, meaning you have to eat more to get back into Starving.
Interestingly St/Le/Dx/Wi are all halved whilst Starved. This is hugely abusable of course...

Grey was to dumb to interpret english properly,
and to[o] dumb to do any proof reading before
imitating a jackass.
I don't attempt to maintain a guidebook :P
The IGB says that girdle of weight "increases weight of equipped items". Also its name is in red, which means it is a bad item. I see nothing incorrect with the info.
Girdle of weight has the same effect regardless of whether items are equipped or not. It does not affect equipped items in any way. Honestly, I have a lot of trouble understanding where your line came from - original Guidebook says "just heavy", which is a bit more on the mark at least. "Weighs much more when equipped" would be the best simple statement to make about it.
> "increases weight of equipped items".

You also have a lot of trouble understanding why
it gets brighter during the day, and darker at
night. So what does that prove? : D
>> "Weighs much more when equipped" would be the best simple statement
In that sense, wouldn't it indeed be 'increasing
the weight of an equipped item? I don't think Pavel
is a native English speaker, so his statements may
be true, but a bit misleading (I don't often use it,
so I really don't know). Then again, the regular
guidebook is worded quite strangely in some places
as well.
All I can add is the one time I had the axe (and was wielding it) I got the shield. The other times I've done it without the axe I did not get the shield.
Keep in mind I don't usually make it that far, so it's not a significant number of tests.
Edit: I was L+ but not crowned the time I got the shield.
All the test chars I've just run had no axe and no crowning. They all got the shield.
Death ray can actually kill you on bounces (IIRC, if it kills a mob first). Possibly bugged.
I guess my mind is starting to go. I tested it, and you seem to be right. Wonder where I got that idea from.
I seem to remember a wand of death can kill you on bounce. Casting it yourself results in the message "your feet feell cold" or something like that. You can aim at yourself with 5 by the way - no need for bounce. No sure about death ray from wander of wonder...
Don't know about the wand, but I experimented myself with the self-deathray-killing when one of my chars (level 50, 5 orbs, in my way to close the door) accidentally missdirected the spell. Yes, I pressed 8 insted of 6, my most stupid death ever.
Cursed wand of wishing may not give a wish but still loses a charge when zapped.
If you try to use ring of djinni summoning in wilderness, the game says "Not here." for all other rings it says "Try to wear the -foo- to gain any effects.". :P
The time it takes to fletch missiles is always (time per missile)*(number of missiles made) where time per missile is 7 for arrows, 10 for quarrels and 5 for tiny quarrels. Level 18 ability of archers halves this time. (on failed attempt the time is most likely same except you don't really get any missiles.)
Amulet of life saving does not save you from dying for old age or corruption. Drinking a potion of youth on last turn before you die for old age (the turn where character info says Age: x (dead)) lowers your age but you will still die.
Drinking a potion of longevity on that last turn saves your life (and this is the only possible way that I know to survive if you have been already aged to death).
It takes shorter time to eat cursed food than uncursed or blessed food.
Maybe this is known: There is a lower experience limit for the dwarven quests. Don't know exactly what it is, but at least lvl6.
After which amount of gambling the big casino guards blocks the steps? I earned this game 5e5 and then 1.5e6 more, but he didn't do it.
Any hints about potions of youth quantitave effects? if blessed? potions of longevity likewise.
Is eating cat corpses is worse than just killing them?
Which things go to waste when entering the rift, and which don#t? I never lost an armour on landing for instance, but almost all wands and potions get destroyed usually. scrolls seem more resistant. Any hard data?
As far as I know, it only saves you from deaths whereupon your character's HP reaches 0. Hence, you are not saved from those you mention, as well as numerous others including kicking stairs, eating gorgons, all endgame related deaths, etc.
Number of turns required to eat is proportional to satiation value. A similar effect is observed between cooked/uncooked food, for example.

Now to go get 80 stacking eternium quarrels...
The blanket in the SMC always seems to be generated at one of the farthest possible points in the x axis, counting from the start.
I think the number of paces reported in the scroll you get in the SMC is 2x the distance to the blanket (i.e., moving a square is two "paces").
I always wondered if that scroll was counted in a straight line, or following the actual path?

> blanket in the SMC always seems to be generated at one of the farthest possible points
That is already documented.
I used to think it was the direct opposite corner.. ie. Stairs in bottom left then blanket will be top right, but then I found the blanket sitting bottom right. So yeah.
Monsters do not drop items if they die from drowning. :/
If have have a torch lit in your tool slot and you light a torch in your weapon slot it'll say you use the lit torch to light the unlit one - no flint or steel is used!
Secondly, the Animated Forest can be cleared and monster regeneration stopped. Tested with L50 wizards with Farsight, Pe 53, 3 torches and blessed amulet of the eye. Before and after images attached.
Erm... nothing will be generated in one's line of sight, so unless you waited some time and then looked at the entire level, the test is not really valid.
On that train of thought, I don't think it's been documented that monsters have differing LoS. Magic-users seem to have the highest (Nurgles is the highest I can think of, but with enough farsight etc., you can stand at the entrance to MT and watch him shrug as many bolts as you wish).
