Cute dog generated hostile

Hi all,
I managed to get to the bottom of puppy cave in time. I searched almost entire level, eventually I found the cute dog severly injured in/near the vault, but the dog was generated hostile. As far as I can tell I have done nothing to make him angry (no traps on the level, no booby-trapped dores...). Is there any reason I am missing for him to be hostile?

Probably its injuries caused it to blind rage, turning it hostile. Thankfully, there are ways to calm it down.

giving it bones, giving it pieces of raw/fresh meat, using the music skill, casting Calm Monster (preferably after luring it to PC:1), throwing berzio potions (preferably after luring it to PC:1)

Kick him to death and feast on his corpse, then go back and laugh at the tiny girl and spit in her face.
