HU CH UN V- T- =m (hurthling chaos knight, week 44, 2014)

This weeks challenge game wants me to play a hurtling chaos knight. While I really have to laugh about the combination I probably would never have thought about playing it. But full plate armor, a scythe, 17 St, 19 Le, 19 De (but only 13 To), DV/PV 16/12 and H 19 make for a decent start (AFAIC). Thin, nimble and raving mouth are not that bad for a start, too.

First kill large bat, level 4 before leaving level 1. On I4 I almost got killed by an exploding door (1 HP left afterwards, oops). But praying to the dark forces quickly restored my hurthling knight to his full glory. Afterwards a gelatinous cube paralyzed me as I continued to stomp through enemies (I'm no careful player) but sadly my armor was tough enough to prevent much damage from surrounding monsters. I5 indicated a tension room... excitement looming. The ensuing onslaught of the contained orc horde, raising him to level 8 and even increasing his looks by +1 (taking beauty tips from orc warriors, eh? Or maybe a facial mask of orc pulp? But I digress...). And I got bloated (plenty of food lying around in any case but that orc pork stuff was nice). Among other goodies I found a steel wand (of light) and a stone amulet (yet to be identified).

On I7 disaster seems to be beginning. Very little food and a rust monster that wreaked havoc upon my equipment. As usual I forget to rely on missile weapons. Oh well.

And on I8 I finally fall to stupidity. Poisoned. Kicking a booby-trapped door. I should have known. There goes Rerrk with a final score 4345 points. Here's the final memorial file (most of the equipped stuff was destroyed by the final trap as many items got rusted by aforementioned rust monster):

I played a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, I kept no log and took no flg. But, since I seem to have the best performance out of the three posted up to know, I'll post my highscore entry:

And the most salient things I can remember off the top of my head:

- I started with the maggots corruption, which was rather... interesting, because this meant that I started with 7 To (IIRC) so my max HPs were really low for a long part of the game. Fortunately, my To improved by some points over time. I don't remember the rest of my corruptions.
- I found a scroll shop (in which I bought a satiation scroll - as I was hungry at the time - and an ID scroll) and a book shop (which was useless being a CK).
- I found two amulets, one of which was an AoLS (identified with the ID scroll). And I actually used the AoLS for... you know... LSing. Something that I hadn't done in normal games for a very long time (in the early game there's another purpose for the AoLS, and in the late game there are better amulets).
- Although this guy wasn't damaged for not taking stairs, being a quite impatient player I tend to dive a lot. When I got to the teen levels, monsters were becoming too tough and surviving became increasingly difficult. I survived some close calls in combat but I got surrounded by giants on level 15 and died.

Just tried a challenge game for the first time and noticed something rather weird. I have even more points but I only got to D:2 and level 5?

Should CKs have the same corruptions in future challenges?

Got to level 10 of dungeon, level 12 chaos knight. Score 6612,

Was stymied by a river level, which I could not bypass without swimming. Can't go up, could not go around.
Ran out of _, even with the holy symbol giving me extra prayer.

Died of poisoning far from stairs.

He got his head smashed by a stone block on level 5 of some

Really weird/terrible corruption roll for this guy. I started with cranium + stilts, which meant that I had a natural PV of -8 and a To penalty. Even with my full plate on, I ended up with only +4, so I was taking a lot of hits. Got into trouble with a swarm of blink dogs on I:4, but managed to get to the stairs, but while I was waiting to heal (5 HP left), I started hearing a corruption trap going off like crazy. In hindsight, I probably should have just kept healing since I probably had a chance against a WMoPC with stilts. Instead, I left the room with very low HP and got stone blocked. Can't remember the last time I've had a stone block death.

In my eyes it's even big fun just to read your reports of the challanges, so I guess playing them will be even better :-)

I have a question as I posted in another thread: are we supposed to post our logs in a single thread or each in their own?
I was actually the first to read this thread and wasn't certain if I should hijack the Creator's post ;)

CKs corruptions should really be the same. Starting with healing tissue would probably boost the chances to get deep by a fair margin.

I got cranium + chaos mists + thorns or so which meant I had 8 PV and non-existent Pe. Managed to descent to about I:4 (clvl 7 or so) and got nailed by a dark elven warrior through poison. I had a bunch of rocks but the guy had close to 110 speed, so yeah.

I might be blunt, but this still was boring. No feeling of competition so far (I doubt global highscore would change that) unlike our forum games (probably because there you knew the exact person you were competing against).

The global highscore would improve the feeling of competition quite a lot. I kwow I'd try to get #1 in the highscore.

It still would be even better if dungeon levels were the same for everyone though.
