How do I melt items down?

Trying the weaponsmith class for the first time, got the appropriate level skill to melt things. Brought my anvil to a forge I found. Have a hammer equipped. It always wants me to pick the ingots in my inventory? How do I tell it to melt items down INTO ingots instead?

I'm sure this is stupid easy and I'm just missing something obvious...

CTRL+x to open the class power menu, then m to select the melt ability.

Thanks! I knew I was missing something stupid and obvious. I kept trying to 'use' the anvil.
