Extending Greater Identify a bit
The aforementioned spell could tell the player a little more about certain items.

Suggestion
The Greater Identify spell (or its scroll equivalent) could give additional details about certain items in the game. For example:

Using it on the emerald dagger "Serpent's Bite" should tell you "It poisons monsters on successful hits." like poisoned weapons.
Using it on phase daggers should tell you "It ignores all the protection of your opponents." like weapons of penetration. It currently says nothing at all.
Using it on weapons of mayhem and devastation should say "It causes two extra dice of damage when hitting an opponent, and its hits are more lethal (+6 to damage)." and "It causes four extra dice of damage when hitting an opponent, and its hits are more lethal (+6 to damage).", respectively.
Maybe, using it on weapons of the void should say... that it does whatever it is that weapons of the void do. (The consensus seems to be they scare opponents, but I haven't had much luck triggering that)
The following items do not "help to increase the -foo- skill" like e.g. cooking sets, and it feels like they should:
* Thieves picks (Pick locks)
* Climbing set (Climbing)
* Hatchet (Woodcraft; can be put in the tool slot)

Why it'd improve the game
Telling us the special properties of items (if any) is what Greater Identify is supposed to do in the first place.

Notes
It might be argued that no one uses Greater Identify anyway, but that's because we're spoiled. I believe this should take a minimal amount of time to implement anyway, hence not delaying ADOM 1.2.0 too much :)

If "it helps to increase the -foo- skill" is only shown for items that are the required material for a skill, I'm reconsidering whether the message should be shown for the last two. You can 'a'pply Climbing without a set (to get out of pits and get YAFM when doing it on a staircase tile), and Woodcraft is a passive skill. The manual and game don't list the Pick locks skill as requiring material, yet you need thieves picks to 'a'pply it - that is separate from this RFE though.

Another suggestion
Empowered armor gives no special message when GID is used on it. I'd propose "It accelerates the recovery of magical energy."

I also suggest that greater identify be able to tell the character about the difference B/U/C status makes on the item's abilities. For example, using Greater Identify on an item would tell you that if blessed, it has X effect, if uncursed, it has Y effect, and if cursed, it has Z effect.

This would be a huge benefit for many items like scrolls and potions, some miscellaneous things like rings of the fish or damage, and not useful for some items like armor and food.

Greater identify is rare, and in its current form is not much better than identify. A little buff would be nice.

With the 40+ items and artifacts, it'll get new love. For a small while. :)

Yes, love from the players, for the time it takes them to post the info on the wiki. :)

But love from the developer would be nice.

Identify can tell us that a "bubbly potion" is a "cursed potion of new car smell."
Greater identify tells us that the "bubbly potion" is a "cursed potion of new car smell" and does 1d2 damage in melee. /sigh

I think the additions should only be available from blessed scrolls and from higher power spells. Don't know what power maybe +10? Is that 55 castings for wizard types? You'll have to find the book first.

Then suggest a value. +0? :-)

Added a few more details. Detailing all the B/U/C variants would be weeks of work, no chance right now.
