Add a special bonus for creating a character on November 16 (Steam Launch Day)
"Steam Launch Day" should have a character creation bonus
Not sure what the bonus should be. Something Steam appropriate?

Release version was r61, so something tied to this?
Start with a wand of light with 61 charges? (Bringing the "light" of Adom to a wider audience?)
Start with every skill you have trained to a minimum of 61? (Pretty big one especially for some R/Cs)

Or maybe a potion of holy water and a wand of fire? (to make Steam?)

There's an entire year to figure something out!

Yeah, sure - why not? It's amusing at least and if kept to the Steam version it won't be seen as stealth advertising.
Whatever is chosen should be balanced, though. Maybe go for 16 as the numerical charge instead, etc. I like the duality of November 16 and Release 61.

The "steam" pun idea is nice. Maybe start with a blessed crystal of fire (which has already been dipped in holy water)?

The most cool thing would be special message, no matter what's the actual effect. Even if there would be no effect at all. A cake, potion of booze and more money should make the trick and wouldn't change the game much.

I like this - provides a single use "get out of jail" card, so it's a nice starting bonus but doesn't throw things off too much.
But I'd also give them the holy water separately.
