Mist elves can use iron shields
Iron weapons and jewelry do damage, but iron shields do not. A mist elf priest found an iron shield in SMC and used it until his death on PC6.

Iron jewelry touches the skin - the outward side of an iron shield, which should be the only part of it that's made of actual iron, doesn't. So it might be intentional.

Also wasn't he wearing gloves/gauntlets? Although then weapons shouldn't hurt either.

According to the code shields will cause damage. You were wearing gauntlets, correct?
