RFE: Pet Fighting Pits
A battle arena for pets and companions.

Basically it would be an illegal fighting pit, similar to how the Arena works. However instead of players directly taking part, you would enter your companion/pet and it would be faced off against other challengers (of equivalent power).

It would make sense to have things faced off in various groupings. So dogs, wolves, hyenas, jackals, etc would have their own group. Meanwhile dragons would face off against each other in another. Having your pet rat fight a dragon would be a little unfair. :p

Players would be encouraged to keep companions alive long enough for them to toughen up so they could try and beat out all rivals. There would naturally be gambling involved, placing bets on the winner, maybe even a more involved system, allowing bets on how long a fight might last or how much health the winner will come out with. The player could also be rewarded with various items (scrolls of familiar summoning, wands of calm monster, etc).

I just love the idea. Although acts of submitting your pets to such arena aren't seem to be lawful. Thus it make sense to penalize alignment or even restrict lawful from laying there.

It's true that it doesn't seem like something Lawful characters should be doing, but the alignment hit could be made very tiny to allow them to have a bit of fun without having to worry about it too much.

Or there could even be a Lawful approach to the whole thing, like Lawful characters getting a quest to shut down the fighting pits.

As far as actual fight mechanics go, I figure that the "arena" should be smallish (as we don't need the pets randomly wandering around without seeing each other). Both combatants should basically be set to hostile against each other. I'm not sure how things like teleportation would work however. Should it simply be blocked entirely? Or is it possible within the game's mechanics to restrict it to just the arena space (to prevent fighters teleporting out)?

I also think that there should be pet owners wandering around the place that players can chat with. Maybe each of the division champs or something (possibly with their pet following them closely). This would make a Lawful attempt to shut the place down more challenging (but possibly very rewarding as these champs would have a lot of money and nice items that they've won). If Lawfuls are given a quest to shut it down, killing the arena master would be the main goal, however all other fighters would likely join in (but you could run from them after the master is dead). There could even be a "kennels" section to the map, where a big group of random creatures are locked up. Players could open the kennels to have the creatures run wild, though at risk to themselves as well.

Fun idea! Maybe a side-level branching off the casino, similar to the ogre cave?
