It just removes a laborious step that always makes sense to use anyway.

Why only for applying First Aid? Manually switching to coward mode is pretty much always beneficial if you aren't attacking.

True, first aid was the first candidate that came to mind. I suppose you could argue it removes an element of strategy but does it really? Hmm....

I like the idea. I do switch when I don't forget always as long as I'm not attacking.
Though it's crucial to switch tactics back at start of the next turn to avoid unnoticeable fighting in coward mode.

I'd even wish stats were always calculated as coward unless current action is offensive where actual tactics should be used.
