Cute Dog attackable in the dark

I have noticed on multiple occasions that entering a dark area immediately makes the cute dog attackable. Upon initial attack, cute dog becomes hostile and will no long follow into the wild for return. This can be a problem in cases of flickering lights rooms where the dog will be following and get in the way during the "dark" switch and are immediately attacked. Suggest making cute dog kickable only if one wishes to trigger initial attack to cause cute dog to become hostile.

Not a bug. Attacking companions when you run into them in the dark is intended. Bards have an undocumented class feature that makes them displace companions in the dark instead of attacking them. There's also a fortune cookie message that alludes to this problem: "They say that companions fear darkness".

Good to see this confirmed. I was wondering about this the other day when considering that we thought for the longest time that running into invisible Khelavaster and angering him was intentional.

Yep. Confirmed as intentional long ago. For those who don't like accidental attacks: either wear two shields which is a good practice to do in darkness anyway (you don't wanna kill a kitty, do you?) or welcome here.
