Default YASD: Sora, L39 troll wizard

This was a game I started to see whether I could get a Troll wizard up to Ultra level.

Sora Druze had darn good luck, finding a lawful long sword of devastation in the SMC and a ring of djinni summoning in an undead pit just before dwarftown. There was even a wand of wishing in the Casino! She was only up to level 30 after clearing the first four temples, and the only greater vault was full of undead--no way was I taking her in there! But I lucked into a threat room of ancient black wyrms on UL1. I was able to keep my distance from them and magic missile them to death in slow motion, which brought me up to level 35. Clearing the blue dragon caves brought me to level 37, and Killing Sharad-Thingamajig after receiving Needle brought me to level 39. It was looking like an ultra might be possible after all, all I needed was to use my last wish (from a wand of wishing in the casino, that had 2 charges) on ancient karmic wyrms and kill them very carefully.

Then I tried to clear the mana temple, and when fighting the archmage I realized--too late--that I had used up all my blessed extra and ultra healing potions. I had others, but instead of praying for HP or wishing for healing, like a first-rate idiot I tried to dip-bless a stack of extra healing.

Zap-bang-down to minus 67 HP from the next energy blast. Crud! I had already gotten the medal of chaos, had plenty of dragon slaying ammo for the Crown, and Filk would have been on level 33 or so of the infinite dungeon. She could have gone all the way, but I was drunk on power and forgot that surviving is everything.

    Cheerio,
    Ben

Not equipped, sadly---I was using a torch. I really should have blown the wish.

I think you can use the water orb from inventory... I don't think it needs to be equipped.

    A few notes:

    1. The mana temple is actually really easy for a wizard. Equip a necklace of the eye and use a wand of trap detection. As you're going through the corridor, spam your favorite ball spell every few steps. This'll take out the magebane eyes. Once you get in the center, everything ever can be taken out with ball spells.... namely the all powerful Acid Ball. With my first ultra, I completed the mana temple without taking any damage. And that was my first time through it.

    2. IMO what you should have done in order to gain XP (with a wish) is wish for the Emperor Moloch in the old barbarians glade. This will create a TON of greater molochs, which you can easily avoid and acid ball to death.
