    Default Mercy quest,

I have a very, very powerful orc barbarian in my hands right now with crowning+2 post crownings, seven league boots etc.
Only facing one problem; I accidentally killed the blacksmith in one hit, so I'm trying to get the healing skill the other way - by healing a wounded monster. I created some arrow traps in the level, lured a lizard man into them and then threw a healing potion at its face right next to the healer healing him. This didn't get the mercy quest done though, so how exactly can I get it done?

Despite being crowned + two post crownings, my alignment is N- so I'm afraid of doing the hoggenplotz quest to kill the healer to gain healing.

If you've gotten this far do you still need healing? :P

I'd suggest going the Hotzy route regardless. Wear an amulet of balance, and kill the healer with arrows aimed at the space behind him (not the space he's on).

This didn't satisfy the conditions of the quest as you damaged the monster. You damaged it indirectly, but damaged nonetheless. Lure neutral creatures over traps you didn't make, or else drag a companion to the ToEF or water dragon lair or something.

Can the healing be done anywhere? Does it count if i pull a guard or something to toef and heal them there?

Yeah, sounds like it would work.

This failed hard. I broke my stack of potions of gain attributes (I was gonna chunk them down just a bit later) the second I entered toef, and also NPCs dont seem to take any damage there. Only the player does. so...better take the NPC for a tour and see if i can lure him into any trap i didn't create

    [edit]

it's a huge pain trying to push the sheriff down further into CoC. And the dude just kills everything, nothing seems to be able to hit him

OK this doesn't work. A firevortex's explosion hit the sheriff and injured him, I healed him by throwing a potion at him and I still didn't get the quest completed.

I'm seriously thinking of continuing and trying to beat the game without healing, although it'll probably fail at some point

Oh. Hotzenplotz quest was easy, gave me healing at 60 and didnt drop my alignment from N-.
    Awesome.

You need to heal a creature 6 times to satisfy Jharod requirement of "exerting mercy". One healing potion is not enough.

Plus I don't believe this bullshit about traps created by the player counting as player-inflicted damage. How does the game know you created the trap vs if it created it upon dungeon level generation? I heard this same bullshit regarding cats and the cats eye ring. I killed several cats using traps I created myself and the cat lord was my best friend and turned into a ring for me.
I said it before, and I'll say it again. If I knew scripture like you, I'd prolly be an athiest too.. -gut

Chaos healing way is easiest of all. NPC's are
different than regular mobs in a lot of ways,
so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't count
for the healing quest. Player created traps are
different from level genned ones. If memory
serves, if mobs hit a PC created trap, they become
hostile, but not for 'natural' ones.

Healing a mob 6 times seems way too high to
complete Jharod quest. I remember experimenting
with scumming this quest for the potions of ultra
healing, and usually it was 2 healings, but not
always. I suspect it has to be a certain number of
HP's healed. The best method I found was the one
I heard Moloch chatting years ago. Create an
alarm trap, as it does no direct damage. Dig
Jharod into corner for convenience, like this:

    Code:
    ######
    #@####
    ##@^.o
    ##...g
Wait for some mob to come by and detonate
the trap while another mob is there to hear it.
They will damage each other, and you heal
the one that's easy to reach. You can heal,
chat, heal chat, but you will only get blessed
potions of ultra healing every 1, 2, or sometimes
    3 healings. Increasing max HP's 1 at a time is a
pain, and not terribly turn effiecient : )
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."
