Quick question about shop restocking

I just started a new orcish barb, for about the twelfth time

I got a surge of power on UD:5, and got the BoW!

Now, in the HMV, I'm shopping about and i spy some Iron gauntlets {St+7}. !

Problem is, they cost about ~32k gold. I have about 3k right now. If I go out and do some treasure hunting for a while, and the shop restocks, could they vanish? I distinctly remember a few times when i left an item in a shop so I could return and buy later, only to have the shop restock while I was out, and my precious item was nowhere to be found.

I'm curious if it works the same way with artifacts. If there is any chance of these things vanishing, I'm gonna have to rob a store for the first time in my ADOM career

It can't vanish - although it may be displaced from the three squares near the shopkeeper and from there a new item can be dropped onto it. I think the prices may also be raised when the shop restocks (?).

I've never heard of items vanishing from shops, artifacts included. Maybe you didn't look hard enough - remember that the shopkeeper will often take the items you sold and redistribute them to other squares, so if you sold lots of items there are several stacks to check through.

In any case, you don't have to rob the shop; the gauntlets won't go anywhere. Unless I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure about this one.

Have you tried invis beforehand ?

I don't think shop restocking could make an artifact vanish, IIRC offering artifacts to your god and feeding the demented ratling with them are the only ways to make them disappear, but I might be wrong.

BTW, a UD dive providing BoW and Ironfist is awesome, the RNG seems to be very pleased with you

1) Robbing shops is fun and for roleplaying, an orc is as chaotic as necessary to become a shoplifter. Plan it carefully!
2) I've never had an artifact disappear from a shop, only get buried below restocks.

Believe me, don't I know it. I'm thrilled here. But she's a cruel mistress. I guess I just caught her on a good day- I'm sure sometime tomorrow I'll hit a threat room of acid vortices or maybe get paralyzed by a ghul for all eternity.

I've found the key to my (albeit limited) success so far is severe pessimism. The more optimistic I am about a character, the more idiotic the death that befalls it.

So, these artifacts are certainly nice, but it's too bad I'll be killed before D:25.

And thank you all very much for your replies, i dunno where i got it in my head that these things might vanish. The RNG has been brutal to my past few characters and I'd like to capitalize on this opportunity

hmv shop is an easy rob. switch places with rat gaurds
and they will block shoppy in. can't remember if that
will get ye cursed, but I think so, if you aren't C.
