Default Monsters moving to different levels

Well, hello everyone. I have been reading Brinkster and these forums for many years, but never wanted to make an account to ask some of my questions.
Sometimes when a monster is next to you an you go up or down a staircase, it will follow you. But what if the level is completely filled with monsters? Then, the new monster comes up and has no where to go. So what happens?

I don't know the actual answer - this is a situation that has never occured in my years of playing. Keep in mind that if you already left that level, you'll usually have taken the monsters around the stairs with you. So the only way to replicate it would be to get totally surrounded by monsters you haven't attacked and which don't see invisible, turn invisible, descend, turn visible, then lure yourself a monster.
ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.

well, i havent experienced it also, but maybe similar could hapen when you have monster who summon (like jackalware), but there is no place to put summoned creatures, so game introduces summons once you have free squares.. probably the monster who followed you will pop up after you free a square for it.

Considering your name choice, I initially thought you were one
of Soirana's alternate identities. Intrigued though, I brought out
the dreaded ~adombot~ (Oooooooooo) and went to work.

Wand of wishing got me paralyze, magic map, mob creation, max
spells, and max stats (still xp level 1 though). I went to SMC, waited
a few turns, tp'd to the >, and stood on the < of UD:1. Zapped up 8
mobs, paralyzed them (no blindness needed), and went up stairs.
This is where things got funny, I zapped a Great Karmic Wyrm. This
came as quite a surprise to me, as I was xp. level 1, and all the mobs in
the SMC were xp. level 1. So how did such a high DL mob get created
there? Either mob creation wands work very differently than I had
thought, or mob spawning in the SMC is highly based off of stats (or
maybe DV/PV). Anyhoo, teleported the GKW away, zapped a mummy,
climbed the stairs, mummy follows... and no mummy there. I tp'd
one of my 8 friends away from the stairs, still no mummy. I took a
step to stand in the vacant spot, the mummy arrived on the stairs.

This situation happened to me quite a few times. When you descend from the animated forest usually 8 tree will follow you. Sometimes there's a river next to the stairs on the new level, leaving only one or two free spots. The trees always arrived to these spots only, waiting for the others to die.

If you go up or down stairs and there is no space for the monster to be generated, it waits until there is a legal space to appear on. This could either be caused by a space around the stairs becoming vacant or by you moving off of the staircase which will cause the monster to be generated directly on the stairs.
I said it before, and I'll say it again. If I knew scripture like you, I'd prolly be an athiest too.. -gut

Actually, I thought of another interesting situation yesterday... Sometimes there are two staircases leading to the same level. For example, the level below the Casino which can be accessed from the Darkforge as well. What if you blockade one of the stairs, making sure the monster stays there (dooring it in, for example), leave via the other staircase, then try to access it from the blocked stairs?

(About the previous problem, that makes sense, after all, that's what happens in the wilderness.)

In a similar, yet less disappointing situation, if you 'U'se a djinni ring whilst
surrounded, the djinni will actually strangle a mob to have a place to stand.
