Melee vs Missile

Well, I have a great high elf archer going. I am level 17 and precrowned with skullcrusher. Should I worry about training missiles or should I go on crushing my enemies?
Also, I have a RoDS. I already have an AoLS, so what should I wish for?
Probably not SLB's because I have boots of messenger.

I'd still mostly use missiles. Archers have great class powers all the way.
Skullcrusher is a great asset to have but slaying arrows from 10 paces away are something different.

Maybe wish something for the tower? Red dragon scales or rings of ice?

Use Skullcrusher if you don't have appropriate slaying missiles... Though I guess normal missiles should still do enough damage to kill pretty much anything. With archers, I don't think you have to worry about training missiles period - you'll always be awesome.

By the midgame-to-late, you will probably be able to out-damage skullcrusher with regular arrows playing as an archer.

As far as your wish goes, it depends on what you have and what you need. Some thoughts
-Rings of ice are decent for archers in the ToEF since bows/arrows tend to burn up quickly otherwise. If you bring 3-4 spare crappy bows this isn't really a big deal, but some people consider this nice for archers.
-If you have the appropriate resources (invisibility spell, magic missile, slow monster), an ancient karmic wyrm is a good choice. If you've got a lot of daemon slayers available, emperor moloch is good too. Note: using these wishes can result in circumstances that can kill you if you aren't ready to deal with the results.
-Ring of weakness. If you know how and why you would want to use this item.
-Find weakness skill. Extra critical hits is always good.

I'll probably go with find weakness.
I got the RoDS by robbing a shop, even though I didn't know I was robbing it.
So I see all these nice rings in a shop, and I come back a little bit later with a potion of invisibility. First, I pick up the RoDS, and the shopkeeper says, "Be careful with that stuff." He wasn't gaurding the doorway, though, so I stepped right through it. Then he got pissed, and tried to kill me. Darkness+skullcrusher saved me.
There were rings of ice in the shop.
I have 9 PV armor from DF, and 4 sources of fire resistant.
Find weakness all the way, then. RoW I will try some other time.
About missiles-- I have about 5 arrows each of humanoid slaying, contstruct, dragon, and arrows of thunder/darkness. I've been tending to shoot enemies which skullcrusher doesn't slay.
Level 8 in bows, level 8 in clubs, level 7 in shields.
I also just found surge of power. I've been playing adom for years, but I have found a surge of power about 5 times. What are the chances of finding a surge?

Another question: I violently passed through the eternal guards. If I use the shortcut up, get the ring, then can I use the shortcut down?

No. You need to get the ring, destroy the hostile eternal guardians, then show the ring to the neutral one, and then you can use the shortcut down.
