    Default !!! bubble gum !!!

    So I've been playing adom since the 5th grade, and now 12 years later I beat it for the first time with out cheatsin... Up to about 6 months ago I *swore* that it was impossible to beat adom without save scumming. bubble gum the dwarven wizard saved the day!!!

    I noticed that the game isn't too incredibly difficult once you've taken down ToEF and High king... secret to victory is definitely potions of confusion and slaying ammo... darkness helps too

    Memorable moments in bubble gums life

    * did Guth'Alak's first quest for the first time ever (I don't know why? I just had never done it b4)
    * had a very humbling fight with a gray ooze upstairs from High King that paralyzed me and dropped me from 200hp to 1hp (almost cried :P )
    * spaced out putting on AMW for master summoner so I got confused a couple times and almost got stuck in room, but I got my act together after that and took 'im down
    * was clearing Blue Dragon cave and a took a couple steps off of stairs and noticed that karmic dragon wasn't doing anything so I started walkin' along "tra-la-la-l a" for a minute b4 he boomed sumthing angry at me and I had. to. take. him. down.
    * killed that blue dragon guy at bottom of blue dragon lair he was pretty tricky. ended up going through like a million slaying rounds and 6 cursed invisibility potions
    * I think I only found 2 PoGA... and I dipped a potion of holy water into one... instead of dipping the PoGA into holy water...
    * helped out the great white unicorn
    * Oya and a closed the chaos gate!!!

    All and all good match... I'm sure my gf will be glad that I don't have to play adom for six hours a day for a little bit (though victory #2 feels like it might be all the sweeter)... And I suppose I can start putting a little more time into studying for calculus and chemistry now as well...

    Ya, I believe it was around the bottom of the blue dragon caves. It was pretty tricky I think I killed most of them. Only problem was they could see in the darkness and would mess my business up pretty good. I had a little hallway next to where they were all located I could post up in (and a blessed amulet of life saving to fall back on) and I would just web up and down the whole room next to it, then when the little buggers got stuck I would frost bolt the hell out of them. Of course having to switch it up a little and improvise when the ancient blue dragons would wonder along.

    I think I only ended up getting one corpse out of them as well...

    I'm fairly certain the gray ooze that paralyzed you and took 199 HP was actually a stone ooze. Learn the difference.

    But! You still managed to win, which is an impressive achievement nonetheless. Congratulations!

    Ya I just keep my distance from anything grey and 'j' shaped these days.

    And actually I don't think the quickling queens were a tension room, When they were actually all just standing in a mass in one of the corners of a cavernous floors, I've actually never seen anything like that before, whats the deal with that. Could it have just been a tension room with the walls and doors blown off before I got there?

    It's possible to get tension "rooms" in cavernous levels. Essentially just as you described it - a brick of monsters - except unwalled, no walls/doors blown off required. I think there might be a more specific term but I don't know it. I had barbarian leaders in my last run in High Kings caves and I've also had one memorable instance of something on the order of 50 titans (probably in deep CoC) in another instance. I don't remember how I survived the titan one, pretty sure immediate teleportation was in order. It's always fun to be on a level and hear 20+ "*THUMBS*".

    Congrats on surviving the quickling queens. I wouldn't have been so clever with web. Also lucky on surviving the ooze - the first time I ran into one of those I was doing a naked run of the fire temple... I was so shocked I just stared dumbly at the screen. That was not how I figured I'd die in the fire temple.

    They're normally called "open threat rooms". They can be very dangerous, because there's a lot of monsters and wide open spaces, so it's easy to get surrounded.

    Stone oozes are super dangerous. They paralyze and always punch through armor, so if you get hit by one, the odds of survival are not very good at all.

    Unlike with Dorn Beasts, the wind is always distant, even if vortices are right next to you.

    Also, note that regular tension rooms (the kind with random monsters) cannot be generated in cavernous levels, and this is intentional. I wonder whether open threat rooms are deliberate, or Mr. Biskup forgot to prevent those from being created.
