    Default adom is not idiot safe

    Hello, this one was my last attempt on playing before i started on the server yesterday. Emia was a random roll, DE ranger, i started her at the airport on the way home, and played her over the christmas days. She died on 29.12.

    Her life:
    Was epic . Got the little puppy home in time, killed the ACW without disabling him, without fireproof blanket, without ring of ice. Obtained no chaos resistance equipment apart from HMV and ACW corpse, but 2 wishes that helped out on that. Went through the BDC almost regretting and almost having died there, but due to stubborness she pressed on and killed the boss there, and then the other one too (i have not remembered that, but it was in the FLG). She died in the Mana temple.

    The reason why i write the post, even though i don't remember most of the epic victories in her life, and how show got strong etc, is that her death came through a chain of misjudgements, that i found somehow interesting.

    Her failures were not hers but mine, so in I-form all the blunders:

    Blunder 1: I forgot about the existance of the mana temple, seriously thought that now it's only going down to D50.

    The 8 extra levels made me suddenly aware that i messed out sth... so, to postpone the point in the game where i have not come with a properly working solution i went for BDC first, obtaining poison hands.

    Blunder 2: I decided not to remove it, as i wanted to keep the corruption just before (thin and nimble). I had thick gauntlets in my pack.

    Blunder 3+4+5: Then there was nothing else to do, but go down the mana temple. I put on the AMW, to not get killed too easily. I did not prepare myself for confustion and darkness. Nor did think about what to do if the archmage faces me himself.

    So i went through the traps with wands of trap detection, and stayed at the entrance hacking away at everything that turned up, decimating the Chaos wizards. When this took ages, i got bored of that and i shot some wand charges with long range into the room in order to make the Archmage coming. First i suddenly got confused for decades. In the process of getting my wits together (i.e. putting on the water orb, and then, since that did not help, a ring of mental stability), one of the annihilators snatched my thick gauntlets away. Not realising that this cuts me off from my !oEH and herbs, i was left with healing methods that where "total", that is emergency, not preventive: praying and the water orb. Soon it went dark, the archmage closed in on me, and when i was face to face i could no tell, because there was no way to see him. I did not want to melee him, and i could not shoot him and his magic bolts damaged me badly, so i panicked and decided to get out.

    Blunder 6: Thinking that i had a fair advantage in running, I figured that there is enough health left, got stuck in a hole trap, and shot in the back while trying to climb out. Totally deserved dying.

    Don't be afraid to use your emergency heals. Prayers and Water Orb are there to be used, especially at this point in the game.

    You should probably wear the ankh instead of the willpower amulet. Bonuses to luck count the same as willpower for confusion resistance purposes... the ankh is worth about +8 Wi if I remember correctly.

    The standard procedure is to have at least one wand of monster creation (which will be definitely there after you sack Casino). Saved me on multiple occasions, especially in ToEF.

    To put something between you and the monster you are trying to avoid - especially glowing balls casters - Chaos Archmage, ElDeR cHaOs GoD, all liches, all wyrms, black druid, sage, old crone and Flik - as its targeting is same as with arrows. Doors work too, however if they spawn open you will need a turn to close it, which in some cases means death, and in above situation would require removing trap first (iirc).
