    Okay!

Only level 8 and in dwarftown!

Gonna post my stuff, not sure what my next step should be.
I saved the puppy, and killed the Black Druid. I also killed a Ratling for Thrunderr.

Look like you drank a potion of exchange. Better track down some morgia...

At least it was probably a blessed one, or he'd have lost all of his strength, too. Incidentally, I have never seen a Troll Assassin with a GE Assassin Toughness stat.

Don't hang out in the big room with low-level characters. That place can get out of hand. And the negatives on trolls really outweigh the positives.

I blasted myself into the afterworld with an alchemical experiment?

    Oops!

I did not know that would happen!

    ...

    Poison + Poison = boom?!

If you don't mind being spoiled a bit, any time you do alchemy without following a 'R'ecipe, you'll create a fireball. These can be used offensively, but of course they affect you too. You can combine a potion of water with a potion of water, or a spenseweed with a spenseweed, or any other innocuous combination you can think up, but you'll still get a fireball. So, sadly, a potion of carrot juice plus a potion of booze will not come as close as Ancardia gets to a screwdriver, it'll just burn you.

That is both terribly depressing and kind of awesome! (I like Screwdrivers. )

So...if I were say, resistant to fire, and had a fireproof blanket I would have an almost limitless supply of fireballs?

    Hmm... good to know.

I might have to play some kind of "Alchemist" next.

I was thinking of playing a Necromancer.... but Two Things:
1.) How do you get your pets across the Animated Forest?
2.) Is it bad to be Chaotic/Evil? And what kind of differences are there?

    Thanks guys!

Oh yeah, what do you think a good "Alchemist" class would be?

    Yup.

Take Dwarven Halls. There is really no way to get pets safely across the forest. Or bring a corpse and raise it on the far side.

There are a couple things to be aware of when you're chaotic:
    1. You can be sacrificed on chaotic altars. Unlike neutrals or lawfuls, the chaotic god will happily accept sacrifices of creatures of his own alignment, including you. Therefore chaotics have to be a lot more careful when playing with altars than the other alignments.
    2. Chaotic crowning gives ~4 extra corruptions in addition to the artifact and immunity. Kind of lame.
    3. Certain quests or quest rewards will be unavailable to you. For example, chaotics cannot learn the healing skill from Jharod (you have to get the quest from Hotzenplotz instead). There are a few quests a little later in the game that are only available to chaotics.

Note that you can switch alignment fairly easily, especially at the beginning of the game, so for most PCs that start off chaotic, once you find an altar it is usually a good idea to switch. However, raising the dead counts as a fairly chaotic act, so unless you are constantly working at your alignment, or not doing much summoning, it's hard to avoid being chaotic as a necro.

Well, a merchant specialized in potions is probably a somewhat sensible choice, I suppose. Only assassins, wizards, necros and potion merchants start with the skill, so it'll have to be one of those four.

    1. It's unlikely that your undead will survive that quest. Don't get too attached to them this early in the game in any case; you won't be able to make them out of durable enough corpses, and the undead you can make aren't very good You should try out the different undead and see what you like. By 'l'ooking at your slaves, it will show you their HP and damage.
    2. Being Chaotic has a few ups to go with the pretty serious downs (no Courage skill, healing from Hotz, can't turn in corpses to Druid). You can eat undead corpses and dig graves all you like, for instance. Wights, Specters, Wraiths, and Vampires all draw you to Chaotic if you eat them, but they also improve your Toughness by +1 very reliably.

Altars become very dangerous. I lost a chaotic character to a quickling that zipped into the room and sacrificed me; from then on, I locked the doors every time, until one day a ghost came through the wall and sacrificed me, from which day I always locked the doors, became invisible, and decided exactly what I was doing on the altar before ever stepping on it, to minimize dawdling. You can't be too careful with this.
