    Default Troll assassin.. suddenly dies?

    Inspired by Gut I tried a troll assassin. It went mostly smoothly (except for a few annoying typo mistakes like pressing the wrong button and equipping the ancient scythe with no means of removal, then later accidentally saccing the ancient mummy wrapping instead of something else).

    But then in the dwarven graveyard I suddenly went from 184 HP to negative.. from a few glowing balls attacks from normal Liches?? I just don't understand what happened.

    Hmm, on second thought.. those attacks check for fire resistance, don't they? Seem I didn't have any. Urgh..

    Yes - as far as I know, they give a message about resisting searing flames if you're hit with -Fire, and they can melt beeswax in your ears. So it's definitely fire. Should have worn the RotHK instead of that ring of luck (which I presume you used to enhance your confusion resistance), perhaps...

    I wanted to know why gut is in love with them so wanted to give it a try and see what they're like. I have to say their skillset is tempting, and troll toughness makes does make the early game easier for assassins. I started with something like 10 PV (their starting items tend to be better, too, I think). But as gut said himself, without rerolling for ideal str and to scores the drawbacks aren't really worth worth it.

    Frankly I think the best race for assassins is drakeling.

    Dark elves are better in many cases.

    Dark elves are always weaker at the start of the game, when death is closer to hand.

    Not always.
    They, at least, have more PP and, often, better equipment. Spider shell armor, elven chain mails.
    Also higher mana means extra talent sometimes and higher dx - extra speed.
