As others have noted, this has been done.

My favourite locations are still the Candyland levels.
You hit Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD, and severely wound him.
The greater balor summons some help!
The ratling duelist disarms you. You drop your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster (+36, 6d12+18) [+12, +12]. It flies to the west.
Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD, picks up the blessed Trident of the Red Rooster (+36, 6d12+18) [+12, +12].
Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD, wields the blessed Trident of the Red Rooster (+36, 6d12+18) [+12, +12].

Yet, still. Dwarftown. Only guaranteed non-C altar. Decent shop that does not run out of funds. A guy that trains stats. Fotune cookies that cost $1 and make you drunk at the same time. Five skills can be acquired there. Three usefull artifacts. Rusty and broken stuff can be repaired.

My favourite location is Darkforge, for the excitement of what you'll find there. My least favourite location is the animated forest. I avoid it like the plague, dwarven halls all the way.

You steal a scroll labelled HITME. The orc hits you.

When I'm in a position to abuse the ID I like it a lot, but it's not as fun when I actually need a scroll of uncursing/potions of water, etc. Sometimes I scum for 7lbs - takes 400-2,000 stairhops and about 20-30 days in game time.

But my favorite location is not a location... its a feature. Pretty much any greater vault is truly exciting .

If I had to pick a location, it would be the tomb of the ancient kings, where I am finally able to kill all the really nasty stuff and get my hands on some super high quality items... giant caverns filled with the sounds of combat.

Second would be the water dragon's lair. It's so peaceful (with invisibility, lol).

But really, any place where my PC is kicking ass and there's some danger but I'm not constantly at risk of chaos contamination or almost always about to die are the funnest times for me. So the UD= fun. Blue dragon caves using anything but a very promising PC = not fun.

Edit: I would really love dwarftown but I bump into so many people... its like the D&D equivalent of Times Square.
    I need a shorter sig.

I once spent a similar amount of in-game time in the ID, looking for a wand of door creation - a very common item which I needed for some reason, and I was in no shape to get the guaranteed one in BUGCAV.

Did I obtain it? If you guessed "no", you're correct.

I feel your pain. That monk I was recently playing was 62+ days in game before he found a wand of trap creation. There was even a wand shop that I had bought out three times (not to mention the casino, which finally gave me one on the second buy out).

Why do I need a wand of trap creation you ask? It is my preferred way of dealing with felines (the alarm trap in particular, because it is so versatile and never runs out of charges).

Lakku, even if this has been done before, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the thread (I was not playing ADOM back then)

I'm new to ID hopping, and my most frustrating experience was looking for a blink dog corpse. I'd killed like 90 or blink dogs with no success. See a yellow dog, kill it, drops a corpse. Surprise! It's a hyena.

My favorite place is the Pyramid. Free tools, good items, *and* usually if there is a wack monster I need for the first dwarfdown quest it's in the upper chamber.

One place I haven't seen mentioned: the Griffyard.

This place is awesome. It drops all kinds of amazing gear - if my character is still stuck with a +1, 1d8+2 orcish spear, very often I find an eternium weapon or a mace of destruction or something similar.

It's also accessible to anyone - if you can reach dwarftown, you're strong enough to clear the surface. Unlike darkforge - I've have games where I'm dying for magic mapping/item detection and a blink dog, and I get to the point where I can just fight my way in before finding either of those. Only to get a room full of clothes and a room full of quarterstaves.

Not to mention this place comes with two artifacts - one to wear and one to help you get crowned. And the gauntlets are one of the best artifacts anyways.

My other favourite place is the Druid Dungeon. Not because the rewards are that good, I just like the feel of it. It's the first boss that you can fight, and when I first started playing the game, it was actually a scary place. A horde of slavering animals that you rarely see elsewhere, and Keethrax himself lurking in the shadows to catch you unawares. Even now, it's one of the few real fights you can have - orb guardians and late-game threats tend to go down to dirty tricks, but you usually don't have any of that for Keethrax. The torc is pretty decent too, for how early you get it.

And one personal reason I like the place is that my favourite class really shines there. Cats, slugs, and the druid himself cause headaches for everyone, but mindcrafters just laugh as they stumble around in confusion. I suppose confusion blast counts as a dirty trick, but I'm willing to make an exception there.

My surely controversial pick is the Tower of Eternal Flames. I think planning for and doing the ToEF is a load of fun, no matter your fireproof blanket or ring of ice situation (you should have plenty of piety at that point and that's all ya need!). The most exciting moments in my games have come during ToEF runs and it is usually the most challenging part of most of my games (but not enough to be overbearing). Really gets the heart pumping, and you can't say that about most other locations!

You could make the "dead man" challenge where once you have X equipment, you live out the rest of your days in the ToEF! But seriously though, I love the tower too. I just wish the clock wasn't running nearly as fast so I could enjoy it. If I had an indestructible fireproof blanket I would spend much more time in there.
