    Smile First achievements in ADOM

    Hello everyone,

recently I was thinking about this, and figured it'd be interesting to know what the very first version, PC, etc. you guys have played would be. Mine are the following:

First version played: 1.1.1 winbeta4 back in '06 - I'm definitely a newcomer compared to those who have been playing since the gammas

First PC generated: a dark elf necromancer who died to a jackal pack encounter shortly afterwards.

First artifact generated: the bracers of war as a random drop somewhere in the ID, probably after I25. Didn't even know where the CoC were back then.

First corruption attained: "your feet have transformed into hooves", at around the same location. My English wasn't what it is now, so I had to look "hooves" up to picture the body horror!

    Please share yours

I started playing on 1.0.0 in 2002. I played a whole helluva lot of high elven archers. I think I wanted to be Legolas. The first artifact I can remember was Sun's Messenger. I had been sacrificing everything in hopes of being crowned, but didn't understand how it worked. During my first moloch fight, I prayed to be healed and instead was crowned . My first corruption was ten extra eyes, pretty much free +6 Pe, so I thought corruption was pretty awesome until I got some nasty ones. Thanks for starting this; it's nice to remember the good times after I just lost a fantastic character to my own stupidity.

My first played version was 0.9.9 g15. I remember that I always played high elven archers, trollish healers and dark elven necromancers, and most often: gnomish elementalists. For a long time I was unable to get past level 12 with any character, then my first gnomish elementalist hit level 15 (but died in the Pyramid). Slowly, I got better and better until I finally won with a dark elven barbarian a few days ago - I think it immediately ended up being an ULE, or maybe an UNE, but definitely an ultra. The first artifact I ever got was the black tome - which also introduced me to the lovely system of corruptions. What corruption I got, I don't remember - how could I? It was so long ago.

    Let's try:

First version 1.0.0. Played some gammas later on.

First PC Some sort barbarian, died from starvation in wilderness due to me not figuring out how to enter locations. After reading some manual orc Ranger did better due to survival still never made to anything but wilderness encounter due to same problem.

First artifact: Skullcrusher in Black market - few moments before learning shopkeepers are not pushover problem.

First legit win - orc priest. Did I mentioned I like orcs a lot in general?

First corruption - I think poison hands one. SurprisinglyI kept on for some time, guess mostly due to not knowing what to do with potions.

First thing eaten: kobold [second one rabid dog]. Killed desire to experiment with corpses for some time. Chars at that time was on strict orcs and rations diet. As I said I do like orcs a lot.
So far rolled 15 casters with RoDS and shamelessly killed them within 200 turns. For eternium glory!
    (after 15 I stopped counting...)

After reading Soirana's post, I'm thinking the same of "first thing eaten".

My first legit win was with a dark elf wizard, on December 2011. Very scummed, but I won and that's what matters

First adom version was almost certainly gamma 15.

I genned a monk and had never before played any game in which
the mode of attack wasn't invoked by pressing a button, so I
bull-headedly used trial and error to find the attack button.
    Fortunately/unfortunately, since I was a monk, I noticed that
the 'k'ick command seemed to work, so spent the next few tens
of thousands of turns kicking my way through Ancardia with
several monks (they died like flies). I was so excited to hit
xl 6 for the first time, now I could circle kick! Sad to say,
my earliest deaths were also caused by not knowing the secret
    art of entering locations.

I don't remember first corruption, but I remember the feeling
of horrible unfairness I experienced upon getting the old
barbarian's quest for the first time.
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

I began playing with ADoM on 0.9.9 gamma 14 back in September of 1999 when i began my sophomore year of university.

I can't remember the specific details of my first artifact/character/corruption, but i do remember the first time I reached the Casino. Having played the original Epyx Rogue on my Tandy 1000 (in full green and black monochrome glory, no less!) on and off since 1985 and not having read up on the genre, I didn't know of the Crawl/(Net)Hack/Angband/Moria/etc that Rogue had spawned. When I reached the casino and saw the colours, I was amazed at the creativity of where Thomas had taken the Rogue idea and I was hooked...

It's been my primary game of choice ever since, 13 years and counting. I don't have a legitimate win yet due to my stubborn desire of having my first win be an ultra victory. Gotta love OCD.

    First version: 1.1.1
The other questions, I don't remember that well. My first char was probably a grey elf wizard? First artifact.. was it skullcrusher, in Leggot's shop? I have absolutely no idea about the first corruption.

I remember generating an endless stream of troll mindcrafters in the beginning, for some reason I thought they were awesome. And kept dying early.

First win was a gnome monk, month of the raven and wielding the RCT.
You steal a scroll labelled HITME. The orc hits you.

First version: 0.9.9g10. I was just a high school kid at the time when my brother introduced me to the game.

First PC: gnome elementalist. I played them almost exclusively until my first win a few months after I started playing (after being spoiled to the nth degree). My second win (a dwarf weaponsmith who died of corruption to leftover stone grues on the way up after winning) came a long while after, like months after. After that, I didn't win again until g16p2 came along.

First artifact: a certain black tome as a surge of power in the puppy cave. Of course I read it multiple times and died shortly after.

First corruption: can't remember, but it had to do with that book I found!

First death: can't remember, but one of my very first deaths was from eating a kobold in the puppy cave. This was back when sickness just dealt damage... and faster... and a lot of it. That also was when I used to start the game in the puppy cave. Oh, the memories. Oh, the deaths.

First version: 1.0.0 (I think) back in 2001. I was on a freeware games downloading spree at the time. Most of the games I downloaded were fairly forgettable. ADOM wasn't.

First PC: Human Fighter - I think. It took some time to figure out how to enter Terinyo, though. I migrated pretty quickly to high elven archers.

First artifact: Pretty sure it was the si.

First corruption: Poison hands from Moon Sickle.

First death: No idea. Probably starvation.
ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.
