    I've got no prayers ("ground rumbles" on sacrifice), and I don't remember if there were
    any altars outside the Chaos Dungeon that I could use, besides the Dwarven Altar,
    and I'm not sure how well luring monsters down there will work (haven't really tried
    it before), and it's more tedious than when on a normal level. Also, I'm not sure if the
    dwarves would just attack and kill whatever I bring down.

    Also, you can see I'm "burdened". There's a couple of potions of gain attributes in my
    pack, but I need holy water first to get the most out of those. I also managed to initiate
    an r-pentomino in the Big Room, but I don't want to hang around in there due to the monster
    generation. I know about the trick to quell generation by trapping breeders, but I need
    more digging -- which means blessing that wand -- to make that work. Would you suggest
    I just try luring monsters to the altar? I also did the first dwarf quest, and now am at the
    second -- to cross the animated forest or Dwarven Halls. But I'm not sure if I'd be in good
    enough shape to do that, since those trees can do some damage and the DH is pretty
    much suicidal, isn't it?

    I'm curious about it because to me things seem to "stall" around this point in the game
    for me, where I try to grind/farm/etc. to "power up". What's the better way to approach it?

    Also, BTW, I'm using the newest ADOM prerelease (1.2.0p4).

    Man, not the best of characters. Humans fighters are so boring, and your stats are so mediocre

    Luring monsters onto altars for piety is definitely necessary I'd say, to give access to holy water. Be sure to put on those bracers of protection too (I guess you just got them ided?)

    You're not quite strong enough for many of the current quests. What you really lack is higher To, which you'd need herbs for. My best immediate advice would be to clear the top level of the dwarven graveyard in the hopes of getting some good equipment (pickpocketing helps). Just be wary of ghuls paralocking you. I don't think you can take on Nonnak + Griff as it stands, but if you can get the wand of fireballs they'll be toast. Same for the mummy.

    I would:

    1. Wear the bracers of protection.
    2. Sacrifice enough gold on the dwarf altar to get deity very pleased, selling some of the less useful stuff if needed.
    Then bless water.
    3. Pick some morgia in the big room without pacifying it. All you really need is like 20 morgia roots to train toughness up to decent levels. After that, bless + drink PoGA.
    4. Griffyard and Pyramid. With better toughness you are very ready imo.

    edit: make sure to get a few curia mancox for the pyramid too, just in case

    I think you're just strong enough that you don't need to be particularly afraid of the Big Room - go farm some morgia and buff up. I also think the Animated Forest should be doable if you don't mess up along the way; i. e. use two shields.

    You don't seem to have a lot of items in general. If you usally get "stuck" at this point in the game - have you tried playing with Treasure Hunter and/or starting in the UD?

I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help!     For the morgia training just eat 2 at a time. Ignore the usual advice of 4-8, as that's focused on Willpower, which isn't a short-term concern.

    Be careful with that. I think bumping into a monster with two shields equipped in 1.2.0 P4 crashes the game. I haven't seen it, but others have said it.

    Can anybody confirm this? I've got a very nice wizard quite close to the forest and I would prefair not to waste him... or can anybody tell me how to create a backup with the newest version?

    Yes, I can confirm. It happened to me in the very forest, so just don't do it with two shields or do it with extreme care and a backup. It crashes 100&#37; of the time when attacking a monster with two shields in 1.2.0p4. It's been reported as fixed for 1.2.0p5.

    Okay, thanks! I will not use two shields then because I don't know how to create backups (or where to find the savegames) in the latest version.
    I will have to go through the forest because in DH1 there is an ancient red dragon between me and the stairs ;-)

    edit: Okay, I killed the dragon, but I will continue through the forest anyway because otherwise I might accitentally reach lvl 17 before I get to the Pyramide.
