Thread: Guaranteed wish

  1. #1

    Default Guaranteed wish

What if there were a guaranteed wish in the game?

Who would be the target audience? Why do they need a wish? How shall the wish be held out of reach of undesirables?

Where would it be? What would you have to suffer through in order to get it?

    Et cetera?

Truth is, I'm starting this thread because it pained me to see the lamp RFE thread hijacked.

Obviously, you will have to enter the realms of the Djinn. A seemingly endless maze of sand and hostile &s.

Better not kill any on the way to chat with the Master Djinn, or your conversation will be your last. Some quest(s) for him will grant you a ring of D.S.
And if you've already used one, you don't get another from him.

Maybe the realm of the djinni could be a quest from our pledge rewards beyond rolf's quest. Would be nice.

Honestly I'd just like to see a guaranteed AoLS quest. Maybe unlocked from doing Jarod quest, and then reaching D-Town? That's what most people spend their time looking for a wish for (pre D:17 or whatever) anyways, so just cut out the middleman, I say XD

I'm not completely sure having a guaranteed wish would be a good thing. Don't get me wrong, I do look for an AoLS in my games so that I can get those SoCRs, and it gets frustrating when it just won't appear, but this is one of those ADOM quirks that make it different from other games. You want the nicer loot from Kelly and the possibility of a special ending? See if you can find an amulet of life saving. Unfair and luck-based, but that's how it is.

Some have mentioned large stat drains and having to go through waves of dangerous monsters, which is fine in principle. Maybe the wish could be in the Minotaur Maze with several implications, as it was discussed in the lamps suggestion. Maybe it could be in a mixed tension room with greater molochs, quickling queens, doppleganger kings and emperor liches in I100, only generated once per game like the SIL. Maybe it could require you to kill a cat, so you have to choose between the cats eye ring or the ordinary ring. Maybe it could be another of Kherab's quests requiring you to kill a major NPC. Maybe one of the new quests in 1.2.0 will fit this better and it could be added there...

Also, depending on how this is exactly implemented, you may want to consider an unspoiled player could go through the whole ordeal and end up wishing for mithril plate mails. Perhaps the consequences could depend on what you ask for, AoLS being the top tier choice with -10 to all stats or whatever?

Anyway, that's just some random thoughts...

I think it would be good enough to have a significant chance of a wish from a high danger level area - say a bunch of pools in somewhere like DarkForge

Guaranteed wish/AoLS would make the game too easy, IMHO.

Maybe if it's post-Casino or something....

Personally I say give a guaranteed Wish book [and maybe tune down requirements for reading it] in library. Betwen reading and casting that would provide more than enough challenge.
So far rolled 15 casters with RoDS and shamelessly killed them within 200 turns. For eternium glory!

I agree with Soirana. Though getting even just 1000 HP and PP, not to mention getting enough booze to get the spell from a wand of wonder (for stupid classes and mindcrafters), might take more game time than it's worth it if you're thinking of getting the wish to save Khelly, just to get the SoCR.

As I've stated in the Lamp thread, a guaranteed wish could be given when emptying the pool in the Stone circle while wearing the crown of chaos. This location fits nicely with the ratling words: and it prubably haz still zume other special effex.

edit- Keriax's starting position might have to be lower or the pool room opened up a bit, so a pc can't just teleport to the pool, steal the wish and vamoose.

editing again cause it's still too easy- Just throwing an idea around.

Take away the hallway and put a door of raw steel on the pool room that only opens to a PC wearing the Crown of Chaos and fill the room with balors and/or greater balors.
