Scrolls of power boost is nice, yeah, but we'll see how much that actually affects game play for non spellcasters, seeing as how difficult it is to read books now.

That was a bug which is fixed for the new prereleases. Apparently, the idea was to make bookreading slightly more difficult for non-casters, but something went wrong. The difference compared to 1.1.1 was notorious even with high-Learning wizards, so I'm grateful it wasn't meant to be that drastic.

Reading books almost feels too easy in pre6.

Edit - I suppose it's just that I got used to it in the previous preleases.
