    Default Kicking millions in gold?

I feel like creating a bug report or a RFE regarding this. But not sure which is appropriate.

First. Do we want this to continue? It just feels a bit too 'illogical' an action to me, well carrying it too.

That's why I ask here first. I mean if we can carry it, why can't we kick it.

The PC:s can also carry and kick huge piles of weapons, huge rocks, anvils etc. I don't think it makes much sense to single out gold as a thing that should be subject to more strict realism.

I think it's just easier to think that PC:s are masters of some kind of mysterious art that allows them to fight monsters while carrying hundreds of kg:s of stuff and handle piles of 10 plate mails just as easily as a single one. Adding some kind of limitations on volume/amount of items at this point would probably affect game mechanics and balance too much. (And would probably be quite a bit of work to implement).

I would vote in favor of an RFE that altered the way kicking items on the ground works.

Items on the ground should be treated a bit more realistically, in terms of weight and inertia, than items being carried in the character's magical backpack of holding (which, clearly, alters volume but not weight). Strength of Atlas, too, only affects items being carried, not on the ground. Same with a magic girdle of greed, for gold in particular.

A simple weight limit based on strength is the first thing that pops into my mind. But, kicking items on the ground is occasionally a tactical thing; moving stuff off a trap, or an altar, in order to grab it safely. So this probably needs more careful thought.

Leave this as is. Too much realism hurts the game. And if you went ahead, you'd also have to submit an RFE so that the PC can't know there's exactly 5321963 gold pieces in the stack, an RFE to prevent the PC from automatically knowing the weight of each item, etc.

    Ok, thx for your replies.

It just felt a bit weird kicking ~4000000 coins to the upstairs of the casino.

Think of coins in ADoM as magically always containing themselves in bags. When you have a stack of 1 million gold coins, they're a million gold coins in a bag. So when you kick the pile, you're kicking a bag.

Hey, it's no more strange than the fact that you can separate a pile of identical, unIDed rings into their BUC state, but can't recognise that the blessed one that you know is blessed belongs in one of the piles. If you know what I mean.

Yeah, I was actually imagining the gold like that while trying to fall asleep last night. Just thought I'll reply this morning to those that commented.

I think of stacking items as held together one above the other by some sort of magical force. When you acquire (and identify) another one, it automatically goes where its fellow identical stacking items can be found. Then, the only way to pry it from there is using or dropping it.

Kinda gives whole new meaning to the term 'heapsort'
