Did someone force you to do it?

And why everyone should be able to do what only certain classes receive as their class power?

Game indeed became harder. But more than half of the features OP mentioned don't really make the game harder. New player probably won't abuse banshee in AF or make gremlin bomb anyway unless someone will tel him about it.

P.S. Why on earth would you stairhop with an assassin for spellbook of Invisibility? O_O

Then let's nerf PoGA, as 5 of them equals bard's lvl 50 class power.
And also amulet of water breathing and rings of fire resistance. It's elementalist's class power.
Also, nerf scrolls of uncursing. It's wizard's class power. And weapons of vampirism. It's necromancer power. And healing spells from spellbooks. It's healer's class power. And items of confusion resistance. It's mindcrafter's class power, and the same with TPcontrol.

BTW, do you know that barbarian can wear 7LB too?

Cause 100 stealth and stealthy talent still sucks balls for assassins. No sound engine to make most of it makes invis a requirement. But no literate/backstabber can get literacy/concentration (now with ME it is easy). Gone are days of orcish priests assassins that maxed out at 50 backstab. And no, pool sipping was not an answer, invis (or assassination skills if you prefer) on demand trumps perm invis and hunting for visibility potions (don't think I've ever seen that one) for questing.

I give you kudos for actually caring about backstab. If you feel that the changes have seriously compromised it, you might want to put in an RFE to improve it...

    So what?
I don't see your point here.
You want every class to learn spells like a wizard, run like a monk, shoot like an archer and deal tremendous blows in spare time?

Oh, you actually want to backstab something. Never bothered. -_-

I just posted an RFE (http://www.adom.de/forums/project.php?issueid=1463), actually, stealth play is what irks me most in ADOM (to be frank even the best so far implementation Brogue leaves a lot to be desired, but at least getting items with 'stealth' does make a difference especially when using terrain/lighting to an advantage, still a lot from perfect, anyone played Thief/II/Dark Shadows?)

I love these changes (the only that I find a bit questionable is the 7LB energy cost nerf - not the one-per-wish nerf which is good). They make the game much more fun because the optimal strategy is no longer a tedious festival of scumming. I find myself playing much more ADOM now. I hope they fix the infinite casino gold too. Most of these changes are in fact bugfixes, what were potentials for if not limiting stats? They weren't doing anything.

About new players and Steam, I concur with JellySlayer. Newbies aren't going to scum, scumming is a realm of spoiled hardcore players.

I think it's sensible to ask for changes to make the game a bit easier to compensate for the scummy techniques removed. For example, 1.5x item drops would be good, or something like that. That would help new players and make the game more accessible. Re-enabling the possibility of getting an uberchar by spending two hours pressing w5 near patches of herbs won't.

Yeah, assassin is not the same as big-russian-guy from the beer booth. Assassins are most likely kender/gnomish, hitting from the shadows as their St/To sucks, but they use poison, surprise, cunning tactics to get the job done. Sure you can hire a troll to kill your enemy, but expecting enemy will have 3 fire breathing bodyguards. Backstab is the only way (until sniper class gets added at least)
