I still think that some of these changes were over the top, and that only a select few will really enjoy them. Others will be put off, or just bear with them. I've introduced two friends to ADOM, and while they've been playing for a good 4-5 years, and have a fair amount of experience and wins, they're not as spoiled or "dedicated" as I am (and by that I mean that they don't play it as much as I do). I've got both of them to donate for the campaign, so they have access to the prereleases. So far it hasn't gone down too well with them, and they haven't heard me whine about it so it's not like I've influenced them much.

Maybe I'm wrong, and most casual adomers aren't like my friends.

I think Silfir's comments were especially harsh.

    Adapt

Come on Silfir, that italicized word feels out of place. You wanted something new and you got your way, now I must accept this and adapt. Why couldn't you adapt in the first place, and not abuse herbs/7lb/etc...? God knows you had ten years or so to adapt
I started playing in g16, I think, and in the flurry of updates and changes between 2001 (1.0.0) and late 2002 (1.1.1) I don't recall any major changes, certainly none that had an impact as big as the ones szopin mentioned in his first post. I could be wrong, but I can't remember any. Anyway, where were your RFEs then?

Someone asked why we hadn't commented on the RFEs when they were made. I looked through a few pages of them a year or so back, and I actually believed that TB would read them and chuckle. Didn't think he'd take some of the seriously! Also bear in mind that ADOM was supposed to be a finished work... until this summer started.

I'm not looking to get into or start any arguments here, what's done is done. I don't think I can come up with anything that will make us both happy so I can't RFE anything. I'll play on with these new changes; I'll bear with them. But adapt and play like nothing is bothering me? No.
If you're thinking of telling me to stick to 1.1.1 or whatever version I like best, that won't work. There's good things that were changed in the prereleases, especially the ingot crash. I hope that one day I can play adom without having to back up my save game every few levels.
We were both around for the entire ten years of ADOM 1.1.1. We've both played it to hell and back. It's just inconceivable to me that you want to play more of the same so much. It's entirely up to you how you make use of your access to the nightly builds, of course - but if you want to spend time complaining about the decisions made based on RFEs and the discussion on them without ever taking part in them or making an effort to be constructive yourself, and placing the blame on those other players for wanting to contribute their thoughts and ideas to help Thomas make the best game he can, you simply won't get any sympathy from me.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Thomas. It's his game, his artistic vision, and the decisions you loathe so much are his decisions. Starting a thread with this title and displaying this kind of attitude gets you as far as a 1 Toughness mist elf merchant on a Monday.

ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.

    'g'ive.
Doesn't really matter, since shopkeepers now see in the dark, and all monsters "see" in it to some degree. But I do agree that it makes little sense.

Chris didn't start this thread, so don't blame him for the overly hostile thread title.

But you hit on a key point here - many of us made suggestions, Thomas is the one that implemented them. Getting angry at other players over this is really unfair. We're all free to request what we want from the game, but ultimately only 1 person decides what actually gets changed.

Incidentally, I remember when rivers got introduced. Man, that was a painful time...

Thomas Biskup wrote gave his time and mind to others to enjoy. He received input from those. After 10+ years he wants to give more for a small fee. You respond "l".

Play the current prerelease and if a change is not working in your opinion then create an RFE, don't just create RFE's if you haven't a clue what the effect of the changes has.

    For fucks sake.

But it makes me FEEL BETTER! I am angry at all of you, even those on my side.
    Especially those on my side.
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

Oi grobble, I think the "new guidebook/wiki" thread is far more entertaining

This thread has been a failure (not that it could accomplish anything besides letting us whine), and I'm sorry for posting in it.

I'm not angry at TB or those of you who made those RFEs. Why would I be? It was just the initial disappointment, coupled with a knee jerk reaction. That's probably why I'm surprised at some of the replies here. Between psychiatric evaluations and words just being thrown around this would have been a very sad thread indeed, but I'm glad Grey and gut (funny guy) posted in it.

I'm happy to report, that I'm feeling happier as this thread unfolds.

I wasn't referring to that one, but rather the one about knowing in which direction to attack wrt doppleganger kings or walk wrt cats.

Edit - even more now that they move around all the time.
