    No.

There might not be much demand for playing r59 now that there's a much more recent free version.

Planning on shutting these servers down on 6 June.

Could you post the highscores somewhere as attachments?

I beg to differ, and I request that the servers should not be taken down. Sure there are the latest releases of ADOM for Steam users, people who donated to the ressurection campaign, and regular players like me who can't afford the deluxe version, but the game files are really large, and it's really impractical for me to play it through my flashdrive on a worn public computer. Even the text-based version of the latest public release has a bug that prevents going to the main menu. For the past couple of months, everytime I go out I've been using PuTTY to play ADOM through the server, and it's a blast. I even get a starsign selector, ASCII blocks for walls, and a ttyrec recorder so I can see demos of my and other people's ADOM runs. I'll be missing all of that forever once you shut down the servers on June 6. I'm sorry to hear that it's hard on you mentally and financially to maintain the servers every month, Alucard. Maybe someone else can take the reins? Either way, this will be very hard on me since I've relied on the server and don't have a gaming budget to buy ADOM Deluxe. Apologies for my lengthy rant; just want my thoughts known and hopefully at least a handful of people can benefit from the continuation of the servers.

    Thanks for the kind words.

The biggest reason to shut these down is that I don't want to handle the administrative overhead anymore. In particular, I did not enforce password complexity requirements, and bots have found several users' passwords, including adom's (which is why that password was changed). And if someone were to look hard enough, I'm sure an attacker could find a way to cause trouble (though I have closed off several obvious ways to do so).

I also have had no motivation to put in new versions past r59. It'd be better for you guys if I did, but I just have not, for a long time.

The financial cost is another (small) reason. When I had a donate button up, I received, I think, about 4 donations from 2 people. I just don't want to continue paying for these when I'm not participating and it's not fun for me.

The server code is open source: https://github.com/chennin/adom-server , although that doesn't contain 100% of "How to run a secure public ADOM SSH server". In particular, I'm not convinced there's no way to break out of the custom user shells to get a real shell. But a sufficiently-motivated person could set up a new one.

I will put the high scores and the currently-public user dirs somewhere accessible indefinitely, as I have other servers and just serving HTTP is not a burden. I'll also keep backup(s) indefinitely and you can make requests to saturos at gmail.com.

Well, that is certainly sad to hear but I can understand your decision if so few people are using the servers now.
Your server has been my adom of choice these last couple of years until the new content was added a while back: Finally new artifacts and quests, this was what I had been waiting for since the resurrection campaign, so I had to play those versions immediately. Personally, I would switch back to a server if it was running a recent version, although I've really grown fond of those sweet health bars the ASCII version now features. But the greatest advantage of having a server was the possibility to play a character together with a friend (or sometimes with people here on the forum) by taking turns on a shared account.
So, thank you Alucard for a great time and all the best!

    Servers are now closed!

All userdirs that were previously public, and the high scores, are linked to from the top of the page now, ie:

Sad, but understandable. This was a tremendous resource back in the day, and we used it for a lot of fun (including spectating during tournament games, which was awesome). Thank you for all your work on this in the past!
