    Default GAHAHRARGFSHSGD ultras are impossible.

So my last attempt failed because I got breathed on by a dragon turtle twice in a row for 140 hp a pop, with water breathing, while invisible, with the second breath occuring while it wasn't even in visual range 3 tiles away. Clearly my fault for not gremlin bombing to get a wish engine instead right? I'd only cleared out everything else in the game looking for wishes or AolS short of the minotaur maze and Rift. but apparently dragon turtles are 20 times more dangerous than ancient chaos wyrms.

And this time, while doing the dwarftown demon quest (which I could actually get to since pool sipping didn't give me perma invis to screw me out of the arena forever) the demented ratling I'd fed 2 artifacts to already dies offscreen during the few turns the demon was offscreen in an area the ratling wasn't even in last time I saw him 20 turns ago. Apparently the level 21 demented ratling who could probably murder me in a fight just got popped effortlessly by the level 15 demon in a few turns. Not Ruuin though. Locked the greater demon inside the temple with him and it teleports out a dozen turns later and he doesn't have a SCRATCH. I guess neutral priests are all chummy with greater demons.

Seriously, how does anyone ever pull this off? You just trip across wishes before you even get to dwarftown? Scum 50 years in the ID without ever setting foot anywhere remotely dangerous? I played both of these games with mind numbing caution, herb farming, precrowning, spoiled as hell and it still didn't matter at all. I just want to get somewhere bloody interesting with a prospect of an ultra, but I every time I play ADOM it just turns into a 12 hour grind through jackalweres and herb farms I've done a dozen times before followed by a cheap unforeseeable loss.

It's ok to be mad. We've all been there one time or another.

It wouldn't be very ultra if they were easy to do, would they?

I'm still working on one myself.

Welcome to dissapointment. I know the feeling. However for perseverence we will eventually be rewarded.

    I think.

I wish there was a guaranteed wish, myself. In my current game, I've also emptied every pool, heck I did the rift, dug every grave, killed 52 dragon turtles, 199 giant eels, 103 giant sharks, 56 giant dragon turtles, 119 giant turtles, 54 greater water elementals, 158 sharks, 124 water elementals and 200 water snakes. Yet the RNG just keeps holding a big fat middle finger raized.

I have seen people on the server do an ultra as easily as I could do a speedrun.
The only thing that really need be scummed is the ammy of life saving, and that
is only because it is needed early. The other items don't need to be around until
at least after the casino. As far as PC power is concerned, it doesn't take much
to beat Andor, and the balors can even be bypassed with no fighting if you just
plan to step through the gate.

Your deaths are just from lack of experience. Lure the rat to D:9 or such, before
summoning the demon, and use darkness + tp to rob the momma dragon.
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

How do I use tp to rob the dragon without a book of Tp? Burn up a dozen wand charges (oops I only have 2, TIME TO SCUM FOR BEGGARS WOOHOO) just to evade a god damned turtle? Pretty sure he was standing on top of one of the amulets I needed to rob anyways. You're seriously trying to tell me 200 hp + invis + not being in visual range + appropriate resistance isn't safe enough against a normal enemy, not even a boss? Should I just outright quit if I ever see a real enemy like a karmic dragon or a lich?

Next attempt I'll lure the rat to D:9 and he'll blunder into a corruption trap and you'll be telling me I should have pacified the entire dungeon and lured him all the way to Terinyo. I already wasted hours upon hours making sure I lived that long, why do I need to waste more waiting for the ratling to get near the stairs? Why can't I safely assume that a monster with more hp and speed than me can avoid dying for 3 turns when I can stand in melee and be scarcely tickled aside from some stat draining?

Funny that the other items don't need to be around until after the casino considering the other items are all far far far far far easier to get. Heck, cure corruption is basically guaranteed like 6 different ways. Why can't khelly need that instead and leave the AolS for the crazy lady?

I can't wait for the run where a chaos servant steps on a fireball trap next to Khelly as I walk forward with the amulet, so you can tell me about how I should have read monster detection and teleported next to him ASAP.

(I'm just venting btw, don't take this all too seriously.)

I will probably die because of posting this, but what the hell. In my current game I found a RoDS lying in the pyramid's second level, and two more (one used on rings of elemental mastery, another pending; I'm thinking of rings of weakness since there's a rich flavor room in UD:8) plus an AoLS, ever since saving Kelly. Bracers of resistance were a random drop in D: 2. My first corruption was sulfur breath, followed by thin and nimble and tough scales. Shooting a giant slug in the Big Room with a long bow of hunting yielded a corpse, which means I'm immune to all four elements. The Casino had Nature's Companion, in addition to Long Sting and the black tome (crap). I also had good luck dealing with cats, which means the RotMC is in my right hand. Wi and To are as high as herbs will take them, Le at 45, Dx 41 with the ring, Ma 43. The only things that seem to have gone wrong so far are the mystic not giving me scrolls, and not making it in time to trade the Snake's corpse for a PoCC (but the ACW did make it).

But for every game like this, there's probably a hundred where I don't make it anywhere, or reach Dwarftown and do the quests but never find anything extraordinary to motivate me to keep playing that character, or I get a little too overconfident and begin making mistakes/straight screw up and get killed. I do wish you could borrow someone else's RNG sometimes.

By the way, since you've become adept at exterminating Ancardia's aquatic life, how many kills do they need before getting dangerous?

Mommy dragon can be robbed easily with darkness (in older versions at least, don't know what the current status is). Dragon turtles are very strong though... 200+ damage hits is not uncommon at all, and there is no way to resist. They don't see in darkness or invis, so you should be able to avoid them. They are much stronger than either liches or karmic dragons though. You should only need two teleports--one into the treasure room, one out of the treasure room with your loot.

Why are you trying to lure the ratling anywhere? Even if you kill everyone in Dwarftown, he won't become hostile. Just don't activate the daemon quest if you're really concerned about it... not like you need Big Punch.

IMHO, trying to force an ultra leads to disappointment more often than not. If you don't get a wish from clearing the pools at Darkforge, and don't find one before you reach Khelly, just go and close the gate. Sooner or later you'll get your early wish and then go for your ultra.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

I've had games like you described, maybe some characters are just not destined to become gods.

    Your's on the otherhand.

None of them have been able to damage my PC, yet.

She now teleports to next to the PC and breathes water at the PC when the PC pick up something.
