Thanks for your reply, all! and most of all thanks for understanding what I've meant under the "character positioning" issue. Yes, correct shadowing should resolve this, and I will try use the grid.

BTW, one suggestion as to the character appearance. Perhaps, until it's not implemented, it might be an option to completely remove the sword from the sprite. Instead, you might just draw a backpack and a loose cloak/coat on the main protagonist. If it's not too late to re-draw it at this stage of development of course. Thus, it will leave room for imagination at least as to which weapons/stuff I carry at the moment in my backpack, or on my belt, without seeing an "unambiguous" sword in my hand.

Can we get an invisible player character displayed on the mini-map.

ADOM is still as addictive as ever, and now it's immersive too. I can't stop exploring, hoping to come across another new monster.

    Some minor thoughts:

    1. I love the karmic effect on monsters, and every picture I've encountered is beautiful. I especially like the liches, hags, quicklings, chaos mutants, and of course the tiny girl.
    2. Ancient Stone Beast didn't have a picture! :-(
    3. Ghosts are more dangerous that other incorporeal undead--it would be nice if they had a different model so I can run screaming.
    4. The only monster picture I'm not fond of is the Banshee.
    5. The weird tome and tracts display below the 'floor line', not above it like all other books.
    6. Gambling at the Casino is Much Slower, even in ASCII mode.
    7. I wish I could display more of the dungeon at a time in tile mode.
    8. The fishy lake looks like normal water.
    9. I really like the demon model. I can't wait to meet a Balor!
    10. Molochs look more like knights than demons. Maybe make them a little darker and more spiky?
    11. Some small items are hard to see--but you know, that's actually appropriate. Feature, not bug!
    12. I'm really impressed with the sense of scale we get from these tiles. We have small bats flying above the floor, and giants/dragons filling the tile and foreshortened. Excellent!
    13. When you get around to drawing a forge, don't forget to leave out the anvil. :-)
    14. Herb bushes look very nice. It would be cool if they showed up as green pixels in the mini-map.

I'm getting used to tiles... now I almost don't miss ASCII. Although the ability to switch between tiles and ASCII in midgame is a godsend.

Here's my last char shopping during his UD run:

In the HMV, which looks really good:

And surrounded by summons in the Big Room, where he met his tragic demise:

Very cool pictures. Haven't gotten a chance to play any ADOM myself, but damn, the characters are really high on the tile (well, center I guess, but...). They definitely need to be moved down to like 1/4 up.

Offtopic: Just got served by Keriax after insulting his appearance. He looks ok, but somewhat boring (he's a boss after all). Got the same impression about ACW.

On topic: Oracle is female in the game. I don't know whether she will have a new tile, but the current one is unique and is male.

Speaking of beatiful pictures, the owlbear portrait trumps everything else I've seen. It's simply a masterpiece!

EDIT: Also, a question: do Chaos levels have an implementation in p14? The character killed by Keriax was supposed to learn but it seems this plan will not work.
Tower of Eternal Flames looks very nice, by the way.
I like my women like my ADOM loot - hunted as treasure and in extra quantity.

I kind of thought the same thing at the beginning, but then I got used to it and it feels natural.

I can't believe it.. my first Adom character in this version runs into a Ki-Rin. Beautifully drawn!

What can I say about this fantastic release? ADOM in cinema-mode, complete with musical score! I already knew, thanks to the teaser posts in TB's blog, that we would have been treated with gorgeous graphics and delightful music, but experiencing them integrated in the game, with all the spiffy details, surpassed the expectations I had. I look forward to the possibility of customizing the music used in the various situations (right now I spend more time than usual in the highscore screen, listening to my favorite composition, the March of Triumph).

As for feedback/quibbles, I have two comments:
    • as others already pointed out, the small size or/and little color contrast makes some objects difficult to spot on the floor. Maybe some of them would benefit from the addition of a glowing halo; this seems fitting for gems and magical trinkets (rings, amulets, wands), for example.
    • sometimes the sprite of a monster does not match well its description in the monster memory. In some cases the difference comes down just to minor details (for example, cave lizards have a violet hue but the monster memory describe them as "dark green or brown colored"), but other monsters suffer from a pretty striking mismatch (I am thinking of the bugbear, described as "covered in matted black hair and with glowing yellow eyes", with the mouth "stretched in a permanent grimace, showing off rows upon rows of bone-white sharp teeth").

It appears the Ancient Stone Beast is still on someone's to-do list.
