    Default Guth-Alak's rewards for Druids

Another thing that is not documented in the GB is Guth-Alak's rewards for Druids that complete the Keethrax quest. I have an old report of the following response from G-A:

"The weather is pretty strange lately."
    "Ah, you vanquished him."
"We all owe you gratitude since you have destroyed a powerful force of darkness."
"Take this as a sign of gratitude."
Guth'Alak, the druid, puts down an amulet, a ring and a pair of bracers.

Bracers = Bracers of toughness [0,0] (+4 To)
Ring = Ring of Minor Elemental Mastery [0,0]
    Amulet = Amulet Of Balance

The BUC status of the items is unknown. Can anyone verify or elaborate?

Druids always get those 3 items as far as I know, though the stats can vary.

If you're updating some of the outside sections of the Guidebook might I humbly request that this be included in the Stories section?

We might not want to open the door to
    bad poetry...

I just noticed in the creator's day challenge thread
that someone is having trouble using herbs to get
    stats above 25, so...

    0.6.1.3 Training stats with herbs

    > increase Willpower and Toughness to 25 with a potential maximum of 26

The trick is to get both to 24. then use a bazillion of
both. This will increase the stat to 26 or even 27.
Other tricks are to intentionally lower stats by means
of sickness, starvation, or corruptions, herb train,
    then remove said afflictions.

    > Eating 2 morgia roots, any status, will train Toughness.

I usually eat morgia in 3's, 5's, and 9's, as it has
    a lower chance of failure.

    > Eating more than 8 at once is a waste of morgia roots.

Nope. Especially if one's Wi and To are at 24.

    > 2 blessed or uncursed mosses of mareilon trains Dexterity.

Again, I use 3's and 5's, because I hate failures to increase.

    > Using more than 4 at once is a waste

To my knowledge, it stacks nicely in 1.1.1. It's possible
that there is a cap, but if there is, I don't know it.

    > seems that trolls always require double the dosages described above.

In 1.1.1. trolls train like anyone else to my knowledge.
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

What's a bazillion? 20? I tested in 1.1.1 with blessed herbs. The results were:

    Wi 16/20 17/20 18/20 19/20 20/21 21/21 21/22 22/22 22/23 23/23 23/24 24/24 24/25 25/25 25/26 25/26 25/26 25/26 ...

    To 10/11 11/11 11/12 12/12 13/13 13/14 14/14 14/15 15/15 15/16 16/16 16/17 17/17 17/18 18/18 18/19 19/19 19/20 20/20 20/21 21/21 21/22 22/22 22/23 (unc) 23/23 24/25 25/25 25/26 26/26 ...
4 unc works if not at max; no further increases even with 8 blessed at once

    Dx 20/31 21/31 22/31 23/31 24/31 25/31 26/31 27/31 27/31 27/31 27/31 ...even with 8 blessed at once

Note the small anomaly where 23/23 To went to 24/25 To in one change - that is not a misprint.

I'll put some words in about decreasing stats to train further. And remove that troll business.

For herbs I've always found the Guidebook rule of thumb to work exceptionally well. Sometimes after the stats reach 20 they need a little more of a push, but not often. Personally I prefer not to eat 8 morgia to get willpower up - just eat as if you're training Toughness and you'll get enough incidental willpower increases. After To is maxed you can concentrate more on Wi if necessary, and save on the number of herbs needed overall.

Generally eating herbs trains stats a bit, and sometimes it overtrains above the amount required (seems to be randomish), meaning that you'll get extra increases beond the next stat raise. It's good to eat a lot before the rise to 25 because it trains the stat whilst it's still trainable, and the overtraining will still take effect, maybe bringing you up to 28 or so. It's also worth noting that raising a stat by other means (potions for instance) seems to cancel training from herbs - if you drink a potion or some such to raise a stat then you'll have to eat herbs again to get more training.

Oh, so now that I'm at 25 To I can't raise the stat more with Morgia without sickness or starvation or what-have-you? Darn.

Just have to make sure I'm wearing my Amulet of Balance when eating them...
