    I played a hurthling ranger, and for nearly all of the game, dual-wielded either daggers or swords. I started the game by generating Keethrax's level, doing the Puppy Cave to get the corpse, and returning to kill Keethrax. Afterwards I went to the CoC. After doing Thrundarr's first quest (claw bug, which was easy), I tried to do his second quest (Animated Forest), but was stifled by a near-death situation.

    Two levels below Dwarftown, there was a mixed vault (if I remember correctly). A corruptor was pummelling me unceasingly and I had no choice but to flee and fight another day. I became hungry a bit after I saw the corruptor. After one or a couple combat rounds, I realised I could not win the fight, so I made my way back to the stairs leading upwards. I had to eat a bone every few rounds to keep from starving (and the strength decrease from the starving status put me at overburdened), and I could barely stay ahead of it. 10-15 spaces from the stairs, I was at the starving status and had less than 20 HP, which I would've lost in one turn. Not to mention hordes of blink dogs assaulting me. I chose to pray, which healed me, and immediately afterwards, I prayed again for food since I didn't have time to eat. Then I was able to elude the corruptor, who was left behind in the middle of the blink dog horde.

    I went to the Gremlin Cave and got the phial and climbing set. I also did the Portal quest, and then the Pyramid. Then I did Thrundarr's other quests. Sacrificing Big Punch got me crowned: Nature's Friend (useless shield for me) and fire immunity (a fantastic boon for me). I did the water temple, then explored until the wall of flames, and then went to the Terinyo area to kill Hotzenplotz for the sheriff and to get a second potion from Guth'Alak in exchange for a corpse. Then I obtained the ring of the high kings, and spent quite some time in the cavernous levels there to get sword marks and experience levels. Fortunately, I found a blessed fireproof blanket in the cavernous level.

    After optimizing my inventory and worn equipment, I headed to the fire tower. I was stuck on the first level for a little while until I found the secret door. Soon I reached the top level. I dug in and ended up in the fire elemental room. I slaughtered many scores of creatures. Then my blanket was destroyed! I lost a lot of equipment, including the ONLY 3 bows I brought and a couple of the 10 dragon-slaying arrows that I had. I also gained stiff muscles and got rid of it with my potion of cure corruption.

    Then I found the ancient chaos wyrm. I zapped a few wands of magic missiles and wands of cold at him (while he was several squares from me, and mostly there were creatures between me and him) and that was enough to send him panicking and healing his wounds. Looks like I won round 1, but it wasn't over yet! I pursued him, and noticed that (probably because of Alertness) his energy rays were useless. And so were his confusion spells. But then we had out first melee encounter with each other. I got the first hit in, and he was moderately injured. Then he invoked his fury, which rained down on me! If I remember correctly, I was down to ~100 HP after moderately injuring him, so I drank a blessed potion of extra healing, bringing me back to 311/311 HP. At full health and in defensive mode, I attacked him once more, and was awed by his power:

    Wow, I didn't realize he had that many attacks per round. I've been fortunate enough not to be forced to melee the ACW before. I'm a bit scared now, lol.

    The funny thing is that he killed you exactly on his last attack. He normally has 3 attacks, 6 on raging mode. Your increased dual-wielding energy cost allowed him two turns for 12 attacks.
    I like my women like my ADOM loot - hunted as treasure and in extra quantity.

    Ohhh. That's what it was. Is dual wielding ever a better idea than using a weapon and shield? This story alone makes me never want to use it against a boss.

    Even weapon and shield is dangerous against some bosses.
    Duel wielding the twin daggers is very cool.
